2:48 is the most enduring Olympic image in my head - Clara falling to the floor after leaving EVERYTHING she had on the ice. Four years later it's still Inspiring.
clancy 69 69 who the fuck cares if shes not the prettiest she is friggin amazing both summer and winter she did so just shove it and do something useful OTHER THAN BASHING!
yo ive never tried speedskating, but why do they push off so slow? i play hockey, and i push off faster then they do, im not looking for any ass hole replys, i just simply want to know why it looks like they go so slow when they push off. thank you.
Compare it with cycling with a big gear. It doesnt look fast, but it is. Every push has enormous power. On these kind of skates its more effective to lower the ritem, especialy on a long distance like this.
You'd be extremely suprised if you see them skate in real, it goes so much faster than it looks on tv. Men can reach over 60 kilometer per hour (almost 40 mph) in a sprint distance. On al long distance like 5 or 10 kilometer man almost reach 50 kph average.
as the old skating "proverb" say: make the most of every slide and let the skate do the work. for long distance the push is very strong and the length of every slide enormous. with little friction, it is possible to go very fast and do less pushes. it is vital for skating economy over long distance. (I do inline speed skating - quite similar)
actually, she isn't that attractive. Has really bad skin and teeth. But i guess beauty doesn't really matter when the person has done so much for Canada.
It's not that it matter, of course we're all impress about her performances.Look is not a "focus" point, but just a point that guys talk about to, like women does :) Amanda, i like this name, if i had a girl, i would name her like it...
We were so happy for Clara when she won. What a great moment for a great athlete and ambassador for sports in general. 5 Olympic medals for Clara Hughes. 2 bronze from the Summer Olympics and a bronze, silver and gold from the Winter.
So damn proud of her!!!!

it's working ice too, you don't carry momentum like in hockey

it's also a 5k race, not a sprint

Do you really beleive that she did all this "for Canada"?
Scoopy4444 4 years ago
What does that matter? Why do people always focus on women's looks?! It's her accomplishments that should be noted.
