  • How melonchaly now that time has passed and here they are...I can see them sitting in Central Park...I can see myself as well...

  • I wonder if Art called up Paul and was, like, "Dude, park bench, NOW! and we have to be quiet about it."

  • Happy Birthday, Art! :')

  • Now Art is 70, Paul already was. It IS terribly strange. Stranger still that it no longer seems so far away for any of us who like their music.

  • @1footonthedawn

"Old age is the most unexpected of all the things that happen to a man." This observation came from a rather surprising source, namely Leon Trotsky, the Soviet Revolutionary, who himself met a violent death in his sixtieth year...

  • As of today they're both 70. How terribly strange.

  • This song... well it's just beautiful.

  • it would be amazing if they could perform this live now

  • silently sharing the same fear... lovingly sad.

  • that little violin bit at 55 seconds is in something else and i can't remember where. I don't know if it's another song or a movie but i know it from something other than this song. does anyone know what it is? it's really annoying that i can't figure it out

  • @MsZiggystarbucks Maybe it was this song in a movie but back then you didnt now it was Simon&Garfunkel?

  • merci pour tout

  • Happy 70th Birthday, Paul

  • How terribly strange to be 70 and today is finally the day.

  • May I recommend the book 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • paul is 70 now..

  • Happy Birthday Paul Simon! How interesting that this song, from years ago, now kind of fits... "How terribly strange to be 70"...

I'm just glad he's lived so long to keep creating such wonderful music.

  • my best friend and i have been best friends for approx 35 years. somehow i can see us sitting on that park bench. sadly, the older i get, the more clearly i see it

  • I am proud to say that I am girl almost shy of her seventeenth birthday, whom has become a big influence of Simon and Garfunkel's music beginning since I was eleven years old. I don't care and I hope nobody else cares which generation I was born or is growing up in, because I want to be one of the first in my generation saying Simon and Garfunkel is forever. And the song ''Old Friends'' is really the core of it all. This song is a symbol of what keeps the two men reuniting in concerts today.

  • サイモン・ガーファンクルはサウンドオブサイレンスなどで有名になったが特別な評価を自分なりにはしていなかった。しかし、この歌を聞いて別の歌手とは違うと感じた。

    それから自分の気に入ったソングライターと認識している。

  • In this song, you could even hear the fear infusing itself with this masterpiece

  • we all sharing the same fears

  • Is this not the original ending for the song? When I hear it I just want to cry and kill my self. But so beautiful.

  • The end is missing... :( "Time it was what a time it was it was a time.... a time of innocence a time of confidences... long ago it was long ago.. I had a photograph... preserve your memories... its all that's left you'll see."

  • @relzm432 well you was kinda wrong, the lyrics are "They're all that's left you", at the end, and the song you are thinking about is Bookends, witch is a different song, but carrys on from this one, please don't think i am in any way trying to be rude to you, just trying to help :)

  • borecleaner1 I envy you so much. You Sir are indeed a lucky man.

  • Why oh why oh why oh why oh why did you cut the end of the tune off???!!! I love the ending! A special musical moment! Lovely tune

  • F.F.C.H.S

  • The last time I heard this song/thought of it was when my father died and I was in mourning. As I prepared comments, for his memorial service, the one verse that always brings me to tears is "Long ago it must be....I have a photograph....that's all that's left of me".....I'm in tears now :-(

  • This is such a beautiful song. I particularly like the bold arrangement that lends support to the story. It seems to me that we don't come across a music like this anymore. The visualization of popular music has led it to soft-porn at the cost of musical creativity.

  • Strange, now they are old friends

  • Love this song very much <3

  • oh dear, where did you get this from????????

This was the last tune I listened to on my ipod yesterday, but delightful choice for all that.

  • They will turn 70 in 2011...Somehow , someway, someone should have them perform this...I would pay well to see them and hear them and remember.....

  • So beautiful.

  • 54 years until this song applies to me. I'm not sure I can make it that long.

  • Saw Mom today at Garden House where she lives for a 4th of July barb. Lots of smiles on the part of the relatives. Not a lot of smiles on the part of the residents.

Mom doesn't speak but the does sing. So we sang the Star Spangled Banner, This Land is Your Land among others.

  • One of my favorite tunes by Simon and Garfunkel.I have sixteen years before I reach 70.I hope I will make it with my wife.We are high school sweethearts, this october we will celebrate thirty-two years of marriage, two great grown kids and lot's of great memories....we can lose so many things in our lives, but the most important thing[s]we can do is to invest in relationships that will outlast fads and temporary setbacks...Life has been good to me

  • @borecleaner1 Hear hear, congratulations brother

  • I am looking forward to share a parkbench with you in 17 years ( when you 70 !) and I shall be privileged!!!

Thank you so much for your warmth wisdom and love today. Today it really sort of "sank in" and I so enjoyed the whole afternoon with you.

Much love and good luck with continuing writing and the meeting on thursday.

  • what happened to the end of the song? it's cut off.

  • it's continued in the song "bookends"

  • This song is incomplete to me without 'Bookends' attached to it, the two pieces compliment eachother so beautifully.

  • I did that by opening two pages, Old Friends and Bookends and hit record, once the other was about to end, I started Bookends 10 seconds before Old Friends ended out. It balanced out perfectly without any blemishes. I used Google Chrome as my browser. Less loading.

  • @yellowisthesun I agree....This song evokes so many memories in my life.I think of friends who have passed away by either illness or accident.I'm 54 and I grieve when I look back throughout the years.so many I went to school with died young.....I am,however, very blessed in that my high school sweetheart and I recently celebrated our thirty-second wedding anniversary. Two wonderful grown kids, lot's of challenges and trials, but also moments of sublime and breathtaking beauty....Life has been good

  • @borecleaner1 Wow i am also 54 and married 31 years and to boys in collage 18 & 20 .I came from a family of 7 and already lost my big sister and oldest brother who was my hero !!.And countless friends and family !! But i will always have there memory's.Great song .when i listen to songs now it's like a moment in time in the past !!

  • The song gets me at the leap in melody at the verse,

"can you imagine us years from today,

    sharing a park bench quietly?"

  • I love this one.

  • Time it was, and what A time it was, A time of innosense, A time of confidences. Long ago it might be, I have A photograph. Present your memories, its all thats left you see.

(That is the last verse of the original song) please forgive any poor spelling. My dictionary is downstairs

  • beautiful melancholy song
