  • meditation doesn't mean continuous non-stop. sometimes you surface and come back to reality even you have been in deep meditation for a long while. Think of the movie Matrix and being plugged into the Matrix. Which is the real world? Neo found out that neither the matrix or the real world is real but a collection of conditions.

  • But I can't believe it!:/ he disappeared!!!!!

  • Hippo, I don't know if this guy is the real deal or a phony. I know that meditating 18 hours a day, in full view, barely moving, is incredibly hard to do (even if he's getting fed and sleeping for 6 hours at night). There are easier ways to make a buck. I think he's really meditating, and that's pretty amazing! Last I heard, he was meditating in a bunker, with no "press". I think he's sincere.

  • If you were Indian you would know that meditating for that long and in your teens is a waste of time since you have to go school or help your parents with their daily tasks. The funny thing about westerners (not including South America, Mesoamerica, and the Carribean) is people who aren't PIO or OIC will assume it is wonderful to meditate in order to achieve enlightenment. Well, it is only wonderful if you are retirerd, did a good job raising your kids, was a good husband and want to begin...

  • ...the last stage in life, which is reserved for spiritual growth. The Nepali and the people of India are similar in cultural, religious and political ideology. especially since both nations are bound emotionally by the Hindu faith for more than a thousand years. Childhood, studying hard in school, getting married and working, and lastly a spiritual journey is the proper way of living according to both social and religious thinking. Shankacharya once challenged a Brahmin couple who practiced...

  • ...Mimasa, which is a Vedic ritual-based philosophy focusing on doing religious ritiauls, practicing ethics...living an aryan life to reincarnate under in better circumstances the next time. Shankarcharya challenged the couple to a philosophical duel by proclaiming that the true way to gain a spiritual connection is through seeking from within and not focusing on the external world. The Brahmin couple ended up losing after Shankaracharya left his body to live the life if a king then another...

  • ....as well, but realized he was right since the external world was driven by the sole state of desire. People were more focused on themselves than the atman(spirit) that is inside the body. But there was one thing he was wrong about and it was the wife who told him a husband should not abandon his duties to seek spiritual enlightenment because then the poor woman would be alone and suffering. Shankacharya was so impressed with her thinking that he named one of his charities after her.

  • The thing about the philosophical duels (the one I described occured many centuries ago) was if one were to lose he would have to follow the philosophy of the winner. The Brahmin couple left their home to study under Shankarcharya. They did so because they had no children or any responsibility other rthan themselves for that matter. It was a choice made because there was nothing holding them back. If you have parents who need your help, don't be selfish and try to find God for many hours a day.

  • Orthodox Brahmins believe the parents have the last say over what happens to their kids till they marry, as a matter of fact all Hindu parents think this way. The kid in the videoclip is most likely a Hindu since Nepal is a Hindu country with lord shiva as one of its major deities. if the kid was a prince he would still have to listen to his parents. It doesn't matter what caste you are, parents need their kids even in old age. I know because I take care of mine.

  • The fact the guy in the video is given money is actually kind of cool since his parents can use it to help pay the bills and put their son through school.

  • Meant for "hippocampus23

  • We all need to stop focusing on the feats of others and try to maintain focus for ourselves to reach a greater stage of enlightenment..to focus on others is to focus on yourself focusing on others.Keep opening that Third Eye!!!!Blessings

  • He's selfish, choosing to meditate instead of helping his mother. I don't like yogis, rishis, sages, sadhus and those who meditate constantly while ignoring their family's wants and needs. People should not look up to these groups because in Hindu culture, mothers actually dislike the rishis, sages, Brahmins and so forth because of how arrogant, selfish, stubborn and persistent they are with their beliefs on how to live one's life.

  • To your thinking, the Buddha was selfish because he left his wife and newborn son to achieve enlightenment in order to help all of humanity. Helping all of humanity with wisdom is selfhishness? And you're "happy" now, with your ego and your anger? My friend, your anger is selfish. It not only hurts you but everyone else around you. Now THAT'S SEFLFISH, and hurtful to everyone, including yourself. Be still, be at peace with yourself. Be a blessing to everyone:))) Let go.

  • The Buddha? "Buddha" means "enlightened", if he was really "enlightened" then in his mind he should think "how is mom doing?". Buddhi is intellect, though I'm not sure if he can think for himself because he is stuck in a higher state of consciousness which for regular people is hard to get out due to the intoxicating effect. Hindus believe while spirituality is important, the last stage in life is reserved for intense religious exploration and practice.

  • Some sadhus leave their homes in youth to find God or a connection with atman but parents don't think it's a smart thing to do when young. We don't leave in Indra's abode....the world does not function like that. in The West anyone can sit on their butt for hours, not being pressured by parents to get a job. In India and Nepal, everyone works hard to make the kind of money that's worth less than the USD. Indians and Nepalis are not proud of their countries for having dozens of sadhus and sages.

  • The fascination is simply just that: fascination. There are some who believe in things like travelling through various levels of consciousness or experiencing the supreme consciousness, though there are some who believe Buddhas are carriers of good luck, like the Hijras. So, Kirk, I'm a Hindu and take care of my parents with love and appreciation. What do you do?

  • By the way, Hindu mothers don't like it when their children run away to become sadhus or meditating forest-dwellers because it is a hurtful thing to do and shameful. Nepali and Indian society believe in working hard for one's parents to keep them happy and safe from harm. To abandon one's parents is a social immoral. Parents look down on their kids hard for behaving selfishly in a harmful way. We're not talking about societies based on the Western or even Asian perception of "Hindu Nirvana".

  • @hippocampus23 you are very immature. u are just not evolved to grasp the concepts and philosophy about reality. you are a mediocre mind. so i dont blame you. i am not saying i m better than you though.

  • It's called life!

  • omfg tats rite!!! shit shit!!!

  • In the Western world I which I was born, if a son that age of a farming family decided to spend all his time praying, he would be called lazy and crazy. I am so glad he has received the understanding he deserves.

  • This is true, it happened to me!

  • Um, I agree with your amiable stance for India and Nepal's acceptance of risihis, pundits and sadhus, though keep in mind that these spiritual groups are looked down upon the same way Shiva's first father-in-law (in think his name is Daksha) looked down upon him.... as a filthy, crazy, lazy, no-good bum.

  • do 10% of what he does and you'll be all set....

  • Through vigourous tapas one can achieve enlightenment in this lifetime, with intensity and preserverence one will guarantee success. Ram is truly blessed and his sadahana is the result of his tapas in previous lifetimes. May he blessed and granted success on his journey to God-realization. Let us all merge in divine consciousness. Love and light to all.
