Hey buddy, could you give me a hand with the rendering side of things? I have the Lumix Tz10, which I believe shoots exactly the same AVCHD lite 720p video as the Tz7. The recording goes fine but whenever I go to render if in Sony Vegas, it goes blurry and paler than normal... I think I'm right in understanding that the ENGLISH version of the TZ10 doesn't shoot at 60fps, it shoots at 50. So I'm not sure whether to follow your rendering tips. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, cheers!
First fo all, don't follow the language version of the camera, just its region; PAL models shoot at 50fps (25x2) and NTSC models at 60fps (30x2). To verify the framerate of your videos, just drag them to Sony Vegas, right click on them and click on Properties; in the new window, look at the bottom, next to the Undersample rate field, there you should have 50fps or 59.97fps. Now create a custom template with my settings below using the fps you got in the properties tab and try. Good luck.
You can see it in the description (normal mode with an exp. compensation of -1/3). I tried the underwater mode first but decided not to use it because it boosted the reds more than it was necessary. I guess the underwater mode works best when you're deep underwater and not just snorkeling on the surface.
@LumixTZ7 Was going to ask you what you were rendering at. Got my answer here. Did you confirm what the TZ7 was originally recording at? Was it 1280x720 AVCHD 30fps progressive? Youre render using Sony AVC at 59.940 15Mbps could lead to the increased quality. I'll see if I can match that rendering quality with my sony vegas 9 as well to see if I get similar results.
As you know, both the TZ7 and TZ10 record at 60fps (30fps with each frame doubled) so that's why I encode them at 59.94fps, but not because Youtube needs that framerate (30fps is the maximum displayed here); I keep the edited videos as well as the originals so I just want them to have the same video quality (and that's why I also use 15mbps for my encodes).
