  • what is the game name?

  • damage is pre-animated, for a second there I though this was actually mesh deformation demo

  • Comment removed

  • @AssassinN8ive is that the fist thing you do when addressing someone? "Hi how are you, oh btw you're a tard" >.> kids these days...

  • @DrOhReally also notice how the car always deforms in the same way

  • @DrOhReally Your blind

  • @AssassinN8ive 2 different crash models, one head on impact, second airborne impact. Even after so many iterations XNA has gone through this still can't be reproduced exactly plus you would need custom content pre-processors. very complicated vertex shaders and god knows how much code that would make it collide with itself to deform like that. I program shit like this and I know most of the tricks in the book. Read up before posting comments like that just cause you like the "pretty crash video"

  • @DrOhReally I get it. It's not like a piece of paper getting crushed.

  • Check out burnout paradise it has this kind of crash damage

  • Wher to download ? xD

  • DEAR GOD

  • Seven years later, and still nothing close to this kind of crash damage available in games...

  • glitch at 1:18 the lights still work! haha

  • post me a link for the download please

  • I wonder if the source for this is available?

  • is this a real game? i want it so badly

  • why do we never see advaced physics in games? i mean yeah gta was awesome with the car physics + endorphin phys.

  • WOW, and why hasn't this level of damage been seen an any racing game thats related to microsoft.

  • LOL GT5 says they have realistic damage. THIS is realistic damage!!! :D

  • This look a lot like Halo 2 trailer.

  • @L3G3nD0001 yea this totally looks like a halo 2 trailer.... except for the fact that halo didnt have a car crashing into a wall 20 times

  • where can we get this?

  • gj microsoft

  • LOL The lights of the car keep ON even with the car all fucked up

  • rigs of rods has one of the best damage models thats available in a vehicle game at this moment and its FREE

i love the game (to bad it has ultra high specs)

  • is this game or animation? (please make small game or something if its not!)

  • Want a crash game the same as this search rigs of rods on youtube

  • Make Carmageddon 4 and use this! :)

  • Cagalho tudo aquilo so pra ver o carro bater ? a mais mesmo assim o video é muito loko !!

  • what game is that and where did you buy it i like car wreck games

  • wow, impressive stuff RaptorEsp :) Did you write your own mesh deformer for that or is it included in XNA???

  • Burnout has this implemented in it.

  • What engine did you use?

  • I'd guess the damage deformations might have been calculated prior to the realtime rendering of the scene.

It's really easy to shatter an object in a 3d package such as Maya or 3dsmax and to then export that scene into a realtime rendering engine - such as the one created with XNA for this video.

Just some thoughts. After all it's about the illusion of reality...

  • Is this game / app available for the public?

  • I'm gonna guess this wasn't rendered in real-time?

  • Even just the car was beast. Then, you look at the crash(es) and think "WHOA!!!!". I don't even know how they had that awesome of a model with perfect reflections and lighting while keeping realistic physics in realtime in 2004.

  • Brilliant fucking briliant...

  • that car would not be street legal X3

They shouldent crumple that bad lol X3

  • No XNA game can actually do this. It's not "real". Car scores points as it closes in on that immovable object? WTF

  • dude what game or program is that

  • whoah!!!!!! :O

  • wy are those kind of damage models never seen in a race game....

    it would be damm awsome

the only game i know that came really close was "Viper racing" or maybe burnout

  • because in a lot of games the car does exist on real life, and engineres must pay the car companies a bit more of money to let them crash their cars... don't know why...

  • @DJordydj i heard that story, i think its stupid but company's want to get money out of everything i guess

  • @Rai0fighter - I think it's because of the licensing deals. Car companies don't want their cars to be smashed on screen.

I think Motorstorm has some damage, but I don't know how their licensing is set up.

Maybe it's just because it would be annoying if a crash totalled your car and cost you the race. It would make the game frustrating for unskilled players.

  • @cyborgtroy does motorstorm have real cars... i thought they where fantasy

    vehicles created by the makers

  • @Rai0fighter - Yeah, it could be. I don't have the game, so I'll have to look it up here...

    ...

Well, I looked in a bunch of places and could not find anything that says Motorstorm uses licensed vehicles, so I am led to believe that yes, they made them up.

  • viper racing is best game ever and first racing game i ever played!

  • @Rai0fighter I'm guessing maybe because this scene is what you would call, "Pre-rendered". I don't think that any of the current consoles have the processing power to use these damage models in real time. You would need a power house of a computer just to run this type of application, lol.

  • @CALLUMG33V3S i do not think thats true

if this would be pre rendered then it would not be a XNA application but just a animation...

xna is for making games for pc and xbox 360 so it should be real time (else i would feel cheated:P)

and i do think it should be possible using soft body physics

try the game `rigs of rods` it uses soft body physics and that damage is really good and keeps getting better and its free;)

  • @Rai0fighter Ok you win this one :P . Also I don't think you would see these kind of models in a racing game, because the designers want to put as much cars in the game as possible (eg. GT5 now has over one thousand cars, or is close too. Not sure), rather then how realistic they can make it. If they could optimize this "Damage model" to be created dynamically at run time, then that might be feasible. Hmm *adds "Dynamic car damage models" to list of things to implement in the future*

  • @CALLUMG33V3S :P yes gt5 has 1031 cars (i looked it up:P) but it does not feel like a finished product if some cars have damage some cars dont and some have a interieur and some dont thats why i stil have not buyed this game

and i hope that future is comming soon;)

  • @CALLUMG33V3S Not really, check out Live for speed, it's a racing simulator with a similar damage model and exists from 2003. It actually runs very smooth.

  • @Rai0fighter I think its because the manufacturers of the different cars don't want their cars to be destroyed in games.

Thats why Burnout Paradise uses made up cars.

  • @Rai0fighter Haha Viper Racing. Classic old game. They could make realistic damage back then but not now? lol

Allthough, gta 4 does a good job

  • @HelpMyFellowPeople yes gta 4 comes close but still not close enough:)

    also burnout comes close

  • @Rai0fighter

Because developers are in a need to churn out high detailed models with low-polygons. This is already a conflicted interest, let alone attempting real-time mesh deformation and collision detection.

  • @Rai0fighter Carmageddon...

  • @Synetearis now you mention it carmageddon 2 had some really fun damage models

i do not know about 1 i only own carmageddon 2 and tdr2000

  • do you know where can i download this for XNA ??

  • LOL! That was awesome! Very impressive damage model. Only thing that didn't sit well with me was in the first collisions, where the wheels didn't get destroyed or break off. But, that was some impressive showmanship in any case! Damn you Microsoft!!!111!one!!!1 LOL! :)

  • c tro b1

  • oh my god this should be integrated into GTA =D

  • what game is this???

  • Ouch... R.I.P. Saleen...

    Anyways, COOL!

  • this crash engine is in game ''fullauto''!!! not flatput 3 or gt5 !!! i read about it , itrs really FULLAUTO

  • I want it....

  • I'm sorry for my ignorance but what does XNA means?

  • its the program you use to make the game

  • well im not sure, the class i take where i from TCD, im learning how to use 3D max, and i heard from people that XNA is a programming is similar to C++, i hope that helped

  • „XNAs Not Acronymed" you fuckhead and it was on PC first.

  • LOL no

  • HAHA.

    Ironically XNA stands for:

    XNA is NOT an ACRONYM.

  • It's a game framework. Basically, it aids developers in programming games.

  • now thats a DAMAGE SYSTEM!!!!!!!! we are 5 years after this demo was made. why no one has used this kind of damage model??????

  • It's not real.

  • I believe that, to be able to simulate such collision in real time, the model would have to be constructed from many polygons/meshes, which I believe would make a game very "hungry" for hardware. Even then, I believe it would be really hard to simulate it correctly. Most car collisions in the latest next gen games are still preset, but with more detail.

  • im going to hate every racing game i play untill one has a damage system like this

  • try burnout paradise

  • burnout is pretty crap for crashes you dont even get a chance to get a good look atyour destroyed car before it resets you and its no wear near as good as this

  • lol kinda true

  • that's why they made the game FlatOut...

  • unless u never heard of Burnout Paradise

  • Clearly outside the means of any XNA developer.

This is also not possibly a real-time simulation.

    Kewl though.

  • how does making multiplayer work? is there a special process or some thing?

  • can you tell me where to get this game plz not the studio but that exact game that you show plz

  • raw

  • can you add other pysics engines to xna? and is xna as good/capable as any other eninge?

  • xna isn't an engine it's a framework, and yes you can use other physicsyou can even write your own.

  • can you add xna to an engine then?

    p.s ty very helpful

  • Only if the engine supports xna, or if it's open-source.

But you could ofcourse write your own engine

  • Comment removed

  • i remeber seeing it when the xbox was gonna be realead and it was suposs to show of the crapics of the console.

  • HOW DO WE GET IT EVERYONE IS ASKING JUST TELL US PLEASE I WANT IT EVERYONE WANTS IT JUST GIVE US tHE DEMO

  • Search XNA on Google. You need Mircosoft Visual Studios 2008 installed and THEN can you install XNA. Good luck, it's a bit weird to get into it.

  • and xna has this damage level?

  • xna has as much potential as C# itself as it's actually that very language that it uses... it all just depends on the maker. As of right now there really aren't any good xna game developers that do three dimensional games let alone crashes like that above, i believe it was just showing what xna CAN do if in the right hands.

  • download link ?

  • Very very very very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this should be shown at drivers' ed everywhere...talk about a way to cure lead-foot! Oh and from a 3d artist's perspective...brilliant animation :o. Love the lighting especially, and the car, well, the car speaks for itself ;)

  • CRASH!....BANG!!..... the driver: oww man! the paint has a scratch!

  • So can you actually get this game and play it ... or is just like a video ?

  • maaaaan I hope there wasn't anybody in that car hahaha

  • Sweet.Does the player live to tell the tale?

  • looks.....fun

play requiem for a dream while this is on

  • Cant beleeve they did this so long ago..

When I first saw it I was like *WOW*

  • i bet the models there are either expensive or take ages.

  • It kinda reminds me of Bournout Paradise, i think they used something like this

  • physics!

@NHL: if this where in gta it would get boring because you crash this way all the time

  • cant wait til this gets put into Grand Theft Auto

  • wats the music

  • Where can I download it?

    COOOL!

  • Quite rude for such a good car...

  • lol looks like the car tackled it at the last part xD

  • and if you think this XNA demo rocks u shud check out Microsoft's XNA Crash Demo #2. I uploaded that some tiem back. check it out:

    watch?v=z0dc8d7I_i8

  • As you may have already inferred. XNA Game Studio 3.0 Books aren't out yet as the official version hasnt been released. There is, however, one book published for 3.0, but best to steer clear of it as there may well be changes to 3.0 when the final version ships. All the required software is available off microsoft site.

  • Visual C# 2008 Express Edition that is... If you want to get XNA 2.0 then you need Visual C# 2005. But i'd recommend jus going with Visual C# 2008 Express Edition + XNA 3.0 CTP, and then getting a book on XNA 2.0 and working with it. There are soem changes since XNA Game Studio 1.0 (aka XNA GAME STUDIO EXPRESS), so make sure u get the book for XNA GAME STUDIO 2.0. You should be able to build most 2D games easily. For 3D games you may have to learn a lot of math and other skills later on.

  • flipin awsum

  • Holy Crack!!!

  • Hi. I'm thinking of making XNA games, hopefully making a little money, but I know absolutely NOTHING about C, C++, or C# coding. Can someone tell me what programs and applications I'll need to get a basic game running? I would like to know some things that let me do the building of characters and other content. If someone knows tutorials, please let me know.

  • You should learn some C# and then get a book on XNA. Some books also cover C#. You could learn C++ instead but then you are restricted to Windows games using XNA. And if you are using C++ you may as well use DirectX 9.0c or 10 instead of learning XNA. You can download Visual C# 2008 + SP1 and then download the XNA 3.0 Commercial Technology Preview (CTP). This for most purposes is identical to XNA 2.0 as far as i've seen. There are some additionals like Zune support. Get a book and go for it.

  • Should put that in car racing games to make it feel more real than just a scrach when you carsh in most pc and xbox racing games.

  • They should, and do in GIRD Racedriver

  • hey did u know u can make a PC game into an Xbox 360 game wid this aslong as its microsoft game (e.g. Halo) and the game dosnt even have to be for xbox 360 like crysis so u cud have tht for ur xbox

  • thats the most retarded thing i ever read.. NO!

And crysis cant be directly ported to XBox as it uses DirectX 10 while XBox 360 supports a version of DirectX 9

  • actually know it all, u can update ur xbox if u have windows connection to it

  • All three of you are wrong...

First of all, Crysis can run on DirectX 9, in addition to DirectX 10. Second, you can't update and get a whole new DirectX. You need certain graphics cards to run certain versions of DirectX. Finally, you have to make the game to put it on 360. The Halo games are coded in C++, not C# and XNA, so XNA can't port them to 360, even if you did have the source code....

  • actyally it's being ported to ps3 in the face of you all fanboys

  • If this was on the xbox live marketplace I was SOOO but this!

  • BEeeeSST!!!

  • So, where is this game? I would buy it just to wreck cars!

  • @squimball Burnout Paradise by Criterion Games ;-)

  • lol u almost had my hope up. i thought u made this. nonetheless its amaazing.

  • to bad burnout paradise didnt look this good.

  • insane physics... wow!

  • whats teh exact name of this? its AWESOME!

  • lol. happy neidnfisandf;ailsnfd;lkasd;fkjsahlhfa;ksf;aksfha;kshf;aksjf;las

  • is this a engine or just a animation!!!!!!

    plz tell me!!!!

  • render scene

  • oh bad news for me

  • Theoretically you can make this with XNA for xbox, if you have professional graphic artist and physics engine.

  • COOL!

  • I WANT THIS ON MY PC !!!

  • now, GT5 is said to use ultra realistic car damage, it will be better than this, IT GONNA BLOW

  • GT5s car damage is not going to be anywhere near this level...the closest game to this is burnout paradise..you can quote me on this

  • Yer I remember watching this years ago.

  • is there a demo for download of this?

  • yea.. xna has been out since last year... but.. its a framework to make games.. its not a game engine or something that makes the game for you... your game is as good as you are coding it...

    cheers

  • that is cool really cool...

  • oh my mother Fing god, shit XNA is kick ass stuff! i pitty the fool who doubted microsoft, because that right there is awsome

  • wtf sweet

  • WOW! That was in '04??? Why the hell don't we have that NOW?

  • Umm... We do. The Xbox 360 has been using it, and Microsoft has released XNA Game Studio.

  • these realtime physics effects might just be more subtle in games, since you're having like 10 cars race each other. i think the same guys made full auto. and there might be a full auto 2. you might want to check that game out. i haven't played it yet.

  • Full Auto 2 is only on PS3 for some stupid reason.

These people also made the game Cell Damage.
