I agree with the statement in the end a man just wants a death to his glory; but I also agree if they could have had a motive or pride to keep fighting they could have over come ten times that number. It has been done many times in human history... They always had a more glorious reason to keep fighting however; so hes right being ready to die for what you believe in is most important.

Yeah agree, and the only two thing that separated this film from being great was that they choose Tom Cruise as main role and the ending; how believable is it that Tom Cruise and the rest of the Samurais would run in to the bullet rain from the hill when they KNEW that they were going to have does auto weapons agianst them? It makes no sense and I hate that part.

For a samurai, it was more honorable to die in battle than to face the shame of defeat. If you recall, the General in the beginning kills himself via seppuku (cutting the abdomen, then beheading) after defeat.  Katsumoto and Algren wanted glory over life, which in their eyes was the true bushido.

@GoGUltra tru but i think they knew they were goin to die so they choose to die fightin besides even if they won the battle the emperor had much more troops than they did so i think in the long run they would've been defeated any way, thts wat i think at least
