I absolutely agree and would add that it's not a case of who is (or was) best.
Personally, I prefer the playing of Oscar Peterson and, in particular, his slower, bluesy, melodic playing which is carried along so nicely using the rich, deep melodic harmony of Oscar's left hand which provides the perfect vehicle for supporting the right hand melody. As clever as he may be, Mr. Petruscu needs to slow down and give us the chance to hear what he can really do.
@Andreeeiiii You say he's faster than Oscar. Maybe that's true, but I think you missed my point. It's not a good thing to play so fast that the music loses something. It's not a race. Oscar could always swing at any tempo.
Oscar was my mentor since the 40s when I lst heard him. Marian just blows me away! Not only has Oscar not left, his memory will be augmented by this astonishing artist.
I admire this man for his fantastic technique and swinging feelings - and even though he has listened very much to Oscar, he doesn't only copy him. His technique and swinging feelings is on the same high level as Oscar's.I have never heard any pianist so close to Oscar's career as a solo-pianist. My great compliment!
Okay, the guy definitely has chops, and the parts that swing work okay, but all the pyrotechnics in the middle are "sound and fury, signifying nothing" IMHO.

Is it just me or can I hear some of Chopin's nocturne in C Sharp Minor, some of Rachmaninoff's piano concerto 2 in c minor first movement and some of Scriabin's sonata 5?
Yea, he is a fantastic technician, but there something lacking in the soul.
He plays it too fast, go and listen to Oscar's version he finds the exact right tempo for this tune (all tunes really).
Oscar's phrases, timing, swing, and technique is unbeatable. Oscar could have played this just as fast or faster, but the supreme virtuoso, knows exactly how to do it!!
This man is so great, I have had the pleasure to listen to him live many many times here in Finland, his brother is playing very swinging bass, mostly together with Marian.
The first that he plays is an part of Rachmaninoff piano concerto. He have probably played an whole Rachmaninoff piano concerto and that is the answer of his good technique. Rachmaninoff was the greatest classical piano virtuoso of his time and he wrote unplayable pieces for piano that only himself could play, but later on other pianist found out how to play them.

Playing fast is one thing, and Oscar was the best, as far as I'm concerned, but this is overkill. After a while, it's just mind- numbing.

@3e3op88 yeah, but for my its swinging.
especially the part in 3:50.
doubletime is doubletime, and to swing without an baseplayer, solo, is always hard on that tempo.
