OMG, i haven't slept in like 5 nights, i cant eat, i'd be smoking & drinking hard, but i quit. I'm playing the same sad songs over & over, not my first lesson in the blues, so, at least no tears this time....yet...
This hit by Ol' Blue Eyes hit #2 on the Top 40 charts. It finished at #14 for the year 1955. On July 9, Bill Haley and His Comets hit #1 with Rock Around the Clock, signifying the start of the Rock Era. This hit by Frank Sinatra was ranked at #5 when Haley's hit went to #1. So Frank Sinatra was a part of Rock History, like Perez Prado, Nat "King" Cole, and Les Baxter.
where is the video that used to be on here for this song? is it the sinatra family taken franks videos off you-tube again.dont they know this is a self harming exercise that they are doing.the more people SEE and hear frank, the more the story goes on
everytime i go to the bar i play this and being 21 alot of the older crowd really questions how i would play such a great tune, and to respond, i would say that just finding out about this song has made me really wanna try more in life, i really can say that i miss her and will continue my journey without her, peace to everybody,
This video is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.
This is recorded after Frank supposedly "ruined" his voice with cigs and booze. We should all be so "ruined". Frank is the one and only greatest, period. Bubbly doesn't even come close. RIP Frank.
Brilliant......no one compares..........I love Mike Buble and he's good however I don't know how you ever can replace Frank.....Can't happen. Giant......I love this man's voice.
What a great recording! I remember when it was released in fifties; I played it until the record was worn out. It seems so fresh and new to me after all these years.
The arrangement and Sinatra's voice couldn't have been better!
El pueblo americano a la par que es un ícono de amor y lo expresa magistralmente en sus expresiones musicales, cómo esta que interpeta deliciosamente Frank Sinatra, tambien tiene contenido y continente de una inmensa bondad y ternura de sentimientos, de bondad... i have a love-hate relationship w/ his songs like them....they're just so good you can't help but love them, but when you've got a broken heart the ones like this just make it worse and you hate the feeling they give you.
I love this one coz its SWING on its BETTEST and i just must smile how joyfully he sings about this sad subjec.... maybe a personal estimation but there r more examples he sings about sad themes not sad at all.
Anyways, one just must swingggggg by hearing it!!*****
@MrStruth some of the renowned singers like Perry Como, Vic Damone, Tony Bennet, and Britain's est Matt Monro had admitted-- they hardly can do singing the Sinatra style, so they sought to do songs on their own style. You're right. He's simply the best. He once said, "You can only be yourself". That's the man. That's Sinatra. He he he. Tonny Bennet had once recorded the Sinatra swings and he confessed..."only Frank Sinatra can sing like Sinatra".
My mother and father saw him in person when he was in his "slump" - ca. 1954 (just before his comeback in From Here to Eternity). Anyway, he hadn't lost his charisma. The lady next to my mother said, "Spit on me Frankie...I'm in the front row."
From the teenage Bobbysoxers of the 1940's to the present day - the queue of women who had a crush on Frank Sinatra would have circled the Earth several times - So you are in good company! ;)
HAHA; glad to hear i am in a good company, though hes actual an ordinary man, no, i mean i like especially his kind of singing, his voice especially in his 40- ties and 50ties years and his humor und natural manner. :-)
I want to apologise to all subscribers and friends for not being so responsive for these last few months. My health hasn't been 100% and I have been in and out of Hospital since Easter.
Frank in his prime was untouchable.....This cut, though not one you'll hear played often, shows what a great interpreter of song the man was. IMHO, only Elvis was more versatile....The king could do anything; gospel, rock, ballads.....But Frank is my all time favorite singer....THE VOICE will live forever.....
The 1950's didn't start too well for 'The Voice' and he had some serious problem with it...But Frank came back to make that decade one of his most prolific and fertile in his recording & filming career.
I worked in a shop once where they played this to tell the workers that it was only half an hour till closing time. But in truth, its another winner for Mr Sinatra. Such humour in the lyrics, too.
I much preferred the music played in the shop to the clothes I was obliged to sell. The playlist had Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Dean Martin, Louis Jordan, The Andrews Sisters, Judy Garland and other singers of the post-war swing era. I am a child of the '70s and knew few of the singers, let alone the songs, sad to say.
trooper7h, Wonderful selection to celebrate the one and only Sinatra. Do you have These Foolish Things recorded by him for Capitol in the 1950's? I'd love to hear it again. Learning the Blues is one of my favorite Frank songs. Thanks for posting.
I do have a copy of Frank Sinatra singing 'These Foolish Things' but unfortunately the sound quality isn't very good and I will not post any tracks if the sound isn't 100%.
However, I will keep looking for the right one. :)
""Learnin' the Blues" is a 1955 popular song by Dolores Vicki Silvers.
The best-known version of the song was recorded by Frank Sinatra in the 50s, which peaked #2 at the Billboard charts. He re-recorded the song for his 1962 album, Sinatra-Basie.
The song was originally done by Joe Valino of South Philadelphia and sold over a million copies.
