what might help is havin better tenors...drums 3 and 4 seem ever so slightly tilted our ward.... i heard pearl fixed the problem now but id choose like dynasty or yamaha. also, it may just be the angle, but near the end, when u have all those crazy crosses and stuff, u just need to watch ur zones a bit better but other than that ir was pretty awesome! well done :D
Fuckin sweet man!!! I love this! I know you said no comments from people not like a DCI instructor, but i have one tip for you. (BTW I'm an instructor at 2 high schools if that counts lol) Don't make that "Oh no! I messed up!" oh that "What's next face!" A judge is going to see that and know for sure you messed up. If you were actually auditioning-which i'm assuming you are- you can most likely get away with a mess up if you don't make a silly face. Just saying. lol GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
@jmsnare2009 Idk.. I was taught that the drums were 1-4 highest pitch to lowest.. which would make the different one 2... but I am sure there are different naming systems.
@19saxman91 It is the smallest that has the different head. I think you may be confused since you are looking at the tenor set backwards. Anyways, it doesn't matter really. I wasn't trying to be disrespectful.
@nayawalker i'm an upcoming freshmen to i played quads in eight grade hardest thing to get use to is moving around with your sticks other than that its easy and a lot of fun btw what school and area do you go to
I got tenors this year for marching band but i just picked up sticks a year ago and only have experience on bass 3. I'm good but not nearly good enough. Do you have any tips or drills to help me improve my skills as a drummer?
@LoveForEternity Just make sure you are good at control... as long as you can control your sticks and not hit rim, you should do good. This is because most high school tenor parts are very easy to play and memorize, so as long as you can read the music and memorize it, you should be good... and practice as well.
I got tenors this year for marching band but i just picked up sticks a year ago and only have experience on bass 3. I'm good but not nearly good enough. Do you have any tips or drills to help me improve my skills as a drummer?
That was sweet man! Hey I know I'm probably 1000th person to ask this but do you have the sheet music for any of that blue devils stuff? I've been really trying to find some and with good stickings too. Thanks!
Thanks so much. I say that cuz when I first joined drumline my friends kept playing that cadencs and I didn't know what the hell it was. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle! GI JOE!
Well i was wondering when you play on snare for drumline your hands are different from each other (left) i am thinkin its different for the tenors but i dont know is it because of the drumsticks you use ( mallet watever)
@Nightfirewolf1 You are referring to playing traditional grip on snare as opposed to matched grip which is used in this video. Tenors aren't designed to be played traditional grip. Traditional grip comes from the ancient Roman times where the Romans marched drums in their army. The rims were an 1" high from the head and the drum was slung on the left leg making it difficult to play matched so traditional grip was invented to make it possible to play the drum.
you have some nice chops dude. the thing i reccommend is that you focus on the smaller details and technique stuff. i guarantee that that will make you a better player in the long run, and make stuff like tough exercises a lot easier. nice job though.
Hey I just started to take tenor lessons last week, and I am looking to try out for band this may. I was wondering if you think it would be a good idea to purchase my own set of quads, if so what brand would you recommend?
Pretty awesome, hope you made whatever you were trying out for. It might have been the video quality, but the only thing that got me in this video was the spock's tuning.
so fucking amazing dude!! i hope when i go to high school i can play tenors. i just recently played them for my middle school when we preformed at a high school pre game, and i love them!!!
@overmind232 if you scroll down to the bottom of the page and search stick control its the first thing that pops up. actually i looked at it again and i realized that its not the same thing lol. i'm still looking for the other cadence... :(
@drumer363 Howay for counting! Good job, I'm sure this comment both proves your extreme knowledge of drumming and will help him out in the future..oh wait..nope..you're just a douche.
that was a fairly good performance of dick, i have heard a lot of people try to play it and it has always turned out a cluster fuck, but that was pretty definative.
Hey man! Nice chops! I graduated from Cherryville HS in 00 and marched tenor 00, snare 01-03 at WCU . I went to WCU with Dustin Stamey (i think he's your director). I was randomly checkin out some drummers and saw this, keep it up!
nice job. the vid's sped up a bit, but your technique is solid. some of your diddles are crushed, and the attacks occasionally off - but besides that its great
Thanks for posting this man, this cadence is sick and I can't find it anywhere. You play it pretty nicely btw. I'm trying to copy it visually now since I can't find the damn sheet music lol. Hopefully I can be as good as this by second semester or Junior year. It's gonna be my first year on the tenor line this year so yeah. Anyways keep it up.
yes diddles should be controlled..but... for slow tempos yes you use wrist to strroke out doubles, but when playing at faster tempos think of your double stroke only being 1 actual stroke. let the drum do the work for you, throw the stick with velocity, and use fingers when playing fast tempos
try using evans heads...and tuning the heads especially the spock...its weird but there are too many diddles even for tenors...if youre gonna make a beat, dont do that and out of nowhere throw some random ass fuck shit in...kinda work into it...and yea
u know the line technique, just having one line to make it easy on ur arms, is it a required technique? cuz i just hate it, i wish it was never a technique, and just imagine this, im gona be the tenor marcher next year at my school.

ok, here's a tip, when doing auditions, mark time when you do it. then the know that your are in time with what you play and you'll get a better chance of getting in
awesome! someone said the word "dick" in the all american audition! I am auditioning for the madison scouts and the all american band on trpt and mello, good job! did you make it?
That was beautiful I would just make the suggestion of playing lower and keep your fingers on the stick. Also are there any advantages to playing french grip? (real question)
the tenor stand i was using was really....REALLY shitty lol and then drums would sag down at an angle, so the stool was placed right under the front so it would hold them level, without distorting the sound, but the drums sound like crap any ha ha i just posted some more vids if you want to check them, definatly more interesting stuff than this ha ha
wow dude really? he's just asking a question there wasn't a reason in that, real mature.
and yea Gribbs is right Ditty was an on field from about 95-96 to 99, but they still play it and actually remixed it, but Dick was an old cadence they played in 95, i just wish i had a recording of it ha ha thanks for the comments ;-]
do you have hard copy of that warm up? that sounds awesome and its the type of warm up i would like. if you do have it i would love to have a copy. thanks

your rims sound really good.
you need to loosen up and open your diddles. bring out the second diddles.
play some 16th notes to a metronome.

decent for a jr high player. keep it up and you'll be great someday.
