When I saw Avatar I thought it was a lot like Pocahontas, re invented of course and the fact of being a world like Pandora only improved the story. I had high expectations on Avatar and I loved it even more than I thought I would so Avatar 2 I hope it happens the same.

Coming to america, destroying their land, pretending to be their friends and killing them to get gold. Sound familiar? Its the history of america, and the same thing in pocahontas. Ferngully meanwhile focused more on pollution and the machines that took down the rain forest. both based off history of indians.

Actually it even says in his movie DVD that it is based off of the history of America. But my dad was the first to mention it after the movie was over before it got out on DVD. Thinking about it, it is a great way to make people realize that war is not the answer, and at the same time show how important nature is and why not to be judgmental.

@lilgerndt Actually, the messages he passes through this stunning sci fi story/movie are much more than history, such environmental concerns, the fact that people pay so much attention to money, the way that technology is developing by destroying the natural environment etc etc. Actually, why I loved this movie is because its main goal is to make you a better a human, with respect to the people and to environment, in the tail of this amazing utopia!

@kotsarikos13 Actually it was in his DVD that it was directed about history, and while that is part of the point to get across, he based it off American history to try and wake us up about what we did and what we continue to do. Go watch the DVD hun. He works with indians, in India and such. The main story is based off of indian history, and the troubles in the world in the past and present.

Ok, I'm gonna be honest here, I think Avatar 2 is going to either be a great success or the biggest disappointment in film history. If done right with a story that picks up from the first, captures our imagination, and is filled with great adventure, it will be a success. But if it's all just the same characters (Quaritch coming back still being a dick wanting revenge) it's going to be really disappointing. Watching this I'm hoping success.

I'd like to know what cliche theme you guys say this film relates to. It may be common that you hear of earth being destroyed by humans, especially in recent years, or aliens taking over earth; but take into mind that this film took five years to make. I find it quite original in that the main character, a human, falls in love with the alien. Also, it's quite new in movies that they have actuall avatars. And this beautiful planet that they have created with all its creatures is puite awesome.

For those of you saying that Avatar isn't unique- nothing really is because information of any kind is never really destroyed, it only changes form. Pandora which is a commonly known Sci Fi planet made the story somewhat familiar. The story to me seemed like it was inspired by a lot of Egyptian mythology the way Jake's soul left his body, kind of made a journey, and returned. It was also a upload-download idea. I'm osrry, but it doesn' sound good in my opinion. Avatar brought advanced CGI graphics, that was awesome. But it didn't have much of a unique story and it had practically a cult following that helped it be as successful. JC is known for making unique and stunning movies. Avatar was stunning, but simply put a SiFi theme on a storyline that has been used over and over.

Will the 2nd be any different, Im not sure. But let's hope he comes up with a unique story this time.

I don't want to see Pandora and new age smurfs again with no plot development. I wanna see the Scrapyard, the sky city of Tiphares, l wanna see Cyborgs causing disorder and mayhem, Motorball racing, l wanna see Alita have her philosophical and violent journey of her identity and human nature. 2016 - 2019 is a long wait to see that happen.
