Polyphony was so embarrassed by their "damage physics" that they made up a bullshit rumor that it was unlocked....what a load of horseshit that so many people believed. Damage in single-player is ALL cosmetic anyway, so even if it was true it would be the worst development decision ever. That's like Infinity Ward saying, "for the next Call of Duty game where gonna make it so when you play online you don't see ANY blood at all.......until you prestige...."

What drives me crazy is that they release a product and call it a racing simulator when every one is bumping and crashing into each others cars every 2 seconds with NO repercussions to your driving (AI is another problem). The damage system in GT5 will be better if your level is higher so at lvl 0 you will only see scratches but when lvl 40 your car wil be destroyd i am now on 26 an mine bumpers are broken also mine spoiler. Sow if you raise your level your damage will raise to

lol wow i saw the commercial for this yesterday and it said somthing like "you want realistic damage, well we will give it to you" but this is no where near realistic, i mean come on GTA IV probably has the best damage to cars i have seen on an game and the game isnt centered around the cars.

GTA 4 just use 1 box to make the damage and copy and paste it to any car... if you crash your car...with the front bumper...... the hood middle hood point will be go up... But at gta 4 ... its not....If you see dirt 2 crashes... if crash with front bumper the hood point will be go up.. thats why GTA 4 is not structed crash..

Forza 3 is more fun for me because of the damage that can be inflicted but GT5 has a nicer feel of driving the cars and the wider range of veichals, so has nicer game play, it depends whether you want to have the realistic damage and consequences or have a feeling were you are in more controll of the car.
I prefer Forza because of the damage that can be inflicted. so if you want to screw your m8s cars and have a laugh go for forza or want a proper race ware you feel in more controll go for GT5.

Gran Turismo 5 implemented a rarely used feature called Decal Tessellation. Without going into too much detail, the idea behind this technique is to take a displacement map texture, project it onto geometry and tessellate the geometry in real time so that the displaced geometry looks like physical damage to the vehicle, mimicking realistic damage on the fly. Forza 3 simply swapped out decals and models which made collision between vehicles look rather dull compared to Gt5

@brya34brya It's there, you just have to keep crashing, but I'm sure the reason why Polyphony didn't make damage right then when you crash is so you can have an epic looking car for a bit longer, then punish you if you're just trying to crash 100 million times. Who wants a beat up Lamborghini on a crash in the start? Or because of a dumbass (or the ai) crashing into you? So after 2-3 crashes you'll start to see the real stuff (I've done it)

This game is such a let down, it's not a massive improvement over Forza, the physics are no better that Forza's and it's generally not as enjoyable, especially the retarded menu system where you seem to have constantly go back and forth. Oh and the fact it's slow as hell to load!

I have forza and gt5 and when I play gt5 I feel more like I'm driving an actual car at 140 mph but forza besides having a few more options it seems too plain and boring, plus the physics are not as good as gt5

Car paint customization and car tuning (engine swapping/transmission,etc). GT5 had to alter damage to hold the frame rate too. So eat a donkey d**k PS3 fools.

The Gran Turismo series has NEVER been about damage and they didn't really need to add it. The series has been about racing in cars that drive realisticly and having fun playing it and I have NEVER not had fun playing any one of the GT games

@DRIZZAT1 Why would you compare forza 4 to GT5? There's only one GT series on the ps3. With the xbox 360 you have 3 including forza 4. So of course forza would be ahead of it's title. GT5 has been developed from the ground up. That doesn't make any sense. Games like the forza series on the 360 been using their previous engine's. So of course forza should have more features than GT5.
@DRIZZAT1 I wouldn't say FM3 would easily rivals against GT5. For one reason is the sales. With prologue they sold 5 mill; GT5 sold 7.3 mill. The other reason GT5 really achieve something with their first title on the ps3. Day/night, weather, pit crews, 16+ cars per race, tire smokes, 400,000 polygons avg per car, correct measurements on nurburgring, rain simulation, windshield wipers, realistic car technology etc. These features should have been on FM3 that's their second titles on the 360.

only 200 premium cars have the full detail, like headlights, windshield wipers, and cockpit. The rest of 800 standard cars are direct imports from previous gt games that just been upscale to HD.
But the improvement is minor. 800 standard car engine still sounds like a fucking vacuum cleaner.
and the new dynamic damage system they claim is completely ripoff. It still feels like a lead brick being crashed into a solid wall.

Metacritic's ratings have Forza at a 92, and GT5 at an 86. We both know reviewers aren't the most trust-worthy of characters, but this is comparing two well-known and high-tier racing games. You can claim bias, but GT has more of a fanbase than Forza, so if anything the tables would be turned, unless there was something to show otherwise.
Though to be fair, the lower score may have to do with complaints that nothing has changed gameplay-wise since the previous generation.

you've got the right idea but what u said isn't quite right, all cars have cockpit view and damage the 'standard' cars will have a standard interior,, whereas the 'premium' cars ( of which there's about 200 i think) will have detailed interiors modeled on the actual cars with more complicated damage. pretty sure about the damage but not entirely certain, either way i can't frickin wait

The damage system in GT5 will be better if your level is higher so at lvl 0 you will only see scratches but when lvl 40 your car wil be destroyd i am now on 26 an mine bumpers are broken also mine spoiler. Sow if you raise your level your damage will raise to

'Full' damage like in this video is only present on the 200 or so 'Premium' cars. So on only about 20% of the 1000 cars in the game.

GTA 4 just use 1 box to make the damage and copy and paste it to any car... if you crash your car...with the front bumper...... the hood middle hood point will be go up... But at gta 4 ... its not....If you see dirt 2 crashes... if crash with front bumper the hood point will be go up.. thats why GTA 4 is not structed crash..

Forza 3 is more fun for me because of the damage that can be inflicted but GT5 has a nicer feel of driving the cars and the wider range of veichals, so has nicer game play, it depends whether you want to have the realistic damage and consequences or have a feeling were you are in more controll of the car.
I prefer Forza because of the damage that can be inflicted. so if you want to screw your m8s cars and have a laugh go for forza or want a proper race ware you feel in more controll go for GT5.

Gran Turismo 5 implemented a rarely used feature called Decal Tessellation. Without going into too much detail, the idea behind this technique is to take a displacement map texture, project it onto geometry and tessellate the geometry in real time so that the displaced geometry looks like physical damage to the vehicle, mimicking realistic damage on the fly. Forza 3 simply swapped out decals and models which made collision between vehicles look rather dull compared to Gt5

@brya34brya It's there, you just have to keep crashing, but I'm sure the reason why Polyphony didn't make damage right then when you crash is so you can have an epic looking car for a bit longer, then punish you if you're just trying to crash 100 million times. Who wants a beat up Lamborghini on a crash in the start? Or because of a dumbass (or the ai) crashing into you? So after 2-3 crashes you'll start to see the real stuff (I've done it)

This game is such a let down, it's not a massive improvement over Forza, the physics are no better that Forza's and it's generally not as enjoyable, especially the retarded menu system where you seem to have constantly go back and forth. Oh and the fact it's slow as hell to load!
Not an Xbox fan boy, I own both machines, but Sony have had long enough on this and it's not anything spectacular, disappointing.

STFU...GT5 is a boring racer and 1000 of the same boring cars you never want to drive. FORZA 3 car stable has the hot cars. The TOP GEAR show cars. The races are bare knuckle. Car paint customization and car tuning (engine swapping/transmission,etc). GT5 had to alter damage to hold the frame rate too. So eat a donkey d**k PS3 fools.

The Gran Turismo series has NEVER been about damage and they didn't really need to add it. The series has been about racing in cars that drive realisticly and having fun playing it and I have NEVER not had fun playing any one of the GT games

@DRIZZAT1 Why would you compare forza 4 to GT5? There's only one GT series on the ps3. With the xbox 360 you have 3 including forza 4. So of course forza would be ahead of it's title. GT5 has been developed from the ground up. That doesn't make any sense. Games like the forza series on the 360 been using their previous engine's. So of course forza should have more features than GT5.

@DRIZZAT1 I wouldn't say FM3 would easily rivals against GT5. For one reason is the sales. With prologue they sold 5 mill; GT5 sold 7.3 mill. The other reason GT5 really achieve something with their first title on the ps3. Day/night, weather, pit crews, 16+ cars per race, tire smokes, 400,000 polygons avg per car, correct measurements on nurburgring, rain simulation, windshield wipers, realistic car technology etc. These features should have been on FM3 that's their second titles on the 360.

only 200 premium cars have the full detail, like headlights, windshield wipers, and cockpit. The rest of 800 standard cars are direct imports from previous gt games that just been upscale to HD.
But the improvement is minor. 800 standard car engine still sounds like a fucking vacuum cleaner.

Im pretty sure when i last checked GT5 was a racing game, and a fucking good one at that (i have it) and dont have one complaint, maybe you guys should stop crashing and start racing, you might, JUST MIGHT, enjoy the game. They made no improvements at all to the 800 standard cars from previous gt games. Engine still sounds like vacuum cleaner. The revolutionary stuff you see on youtube are all 200 premium cars, but not all 200 of them are the cars most people want to drive.
All the good classics are the same from gt4 without improvement.

We both know sales don't make a game inherently good. I could easily give a million examples, but I'll settle with "Halo 3". Outsold every PS3 game by a mile, yet is it the best game on consoles? Hardly, and I LIKE Halo.

Metacritic's ratings have Forza at a 92, and GT5 at an 86. We both know reviewers aren't the most trust-worthy of characters, but this is comparing two well-known and high-tier racing games. You can claim bias, but GT has more of a fanbase than Forza, so if anything the tables would be turned, unless there was something to show otherwise.
Though to be fair, the lower score may have to do with complaints that nothing has changed gameplay-wise since the previous generation.

GT has been about driving, not about crashing in to shit. I wouldn't care if this had no damage at all.

I got a retail copy yesterday the damage looks nothing like this and is very poor, I took an Audi r8 (premium)
Around daytona the wrong way and could not believe how rubbish this game does damage I'm absolutely gutted waited years for this game!

duh....because it will get heavier with levels in gt life mode. Same with AI, it will get smarter and will block you. Chill.

you've got the right idea but what u said isn't quite right, all cars have cockpit view and damage the 'standard' cars will have a standard interior,, whereas the 'premium' cars ( of which there's about 200 i think) will have detailed interiors modeled on the actual cars with more complicated damage. pretty sure about the damage but not entirely certain, either way i can't frickin wait

@aodhanman its confermed that there is NOT cockpit view in standard cars if you have seen any of the videos of the Full game they will show that there is no cockpit view on standerd cars or hood view...
