  • dude that MUST be a PRISSLES WORLD RECORD

  • WOW! Nice run! I'm stuck at 200k... I just have to learn my patterns and I think I go out of my way sometimes to eat some ghost which, most times, only serves to through me off!!!

  • shouldn't it read Pacman CHOMPionship?

  • Nice work. How often are you able to repeat this opening? I've tried just about everything with subtle timing variations but always seem to get weird stuff coming out at the 4:45 mark (e.g. blue-red, red-blue).

I'm probably starting 40 to 50 games an hour now, and I'd estimate that 85% I discard within the first minute due to a random start. I feel like I'm wasting all of my energy on restarts and then I'm sorta drained by the time I get a 100k game by the 3:30 mark. Suggestions?

  • I can repeat it pretty well, but there are days when I can't get an opening to save my life. I often run into problems very early. At around 4:40 on the third energizer, if the blue guy goes up instead of backwards and to the right, I pretty much have to give up because nothing else will fall into place at that point. The other big starting point snag can be at 4:33 when I pause before I eat the energizer. I can get a dozen or so different results depending on the timing of that. Drives me nuts!

  • I've found that trying to turn early so sparks fly really helps me nail the third energizer. Sometimes it can take me an hour or so to get warmed up enough to get past the first three minutes.

Like you, I probably discard a good 85% or more of my starts, so don't feel discouraged; I'd bet most of the good players are doing the same.

I don't know what your high score is, but don't be afraid to play through games just to get experience with the higher speeds.

  • I'm topping out at 382k right now. I've actually had some games where I eat the clovers but blew both eating stages. An average start for me seems to be around 58k (in the opening eating stages) with the high 60k and 70k+ games being kind of rare.

It certainly seems like right now my biggest obstacle is trying to link together the opening of the key stage without a suicide. Anyway, I might join TwinGalaxies forum since Youtube doesn't seem conducive to detailed discussion.

  • Did you tear your hair out after this run? Seriously though, nice job. I'm #9 now, but my skills seem to be diminishing. I am losing hope of ever breaking 500k. BTW, what time do you play, I have never seen you online.

  • I literally jumped up and down after this run, though I was kind of let down after I watched it and counted all the missed points.

  • Good job!

We are waiting for your joining 500K club :D

  • Thank you!

  • Congratulations. I hope I'll get up there soon myself... 'just not been having the luck lately. 8)

  • Thanks! Keep trying... that's my plan for 500K. I'm hoping to brute force my way to a high score. :)

  • Congratulations on the breakthrough (and passing VGF).

In a sense, CE is like Ms. Pac-Man. The top players in Ms. Pac share the same skillsets and ability to run "perfect" games, but their scores are all different due to the random fruit.

In CE, randomness also plays a role as sometimes ghosts line up nicely to keep a chain going, sometimes not. Sometimes the ghosts stay out of your way during the "survial" portions, sometimes they force you to detour - costing you time (cont).

  • (cont from last): I had several missed ghosts in my run, but who knows whether that helped me more than it hurt (could have altered those ghost's paths to where they might have gotten in my way later).

So, just as the top Ms. Pac players could be considered equally skilled, even if their scores vary, so too could it be argued that the top ten CE players are of equal skill - just comes down to one great run. (cont).

  • (cont from last): I actually thought 500K was at least many weeks (if not months away) for me. I was as shocked as anyone - just had a couple of ghosts come my way at the very end.

We had thought VGF would be next to join the 500K Club, but it looks like we'll both beat him to it now. I'm just happy to have made it onto the top ten and be among the likes of StephenEL, cdborrgeo, senobeya, and VGF....pretty amazing company...

  • Thanks very much for the kind words. I thought VGF would be the first American to 500K, but it looks like you have that honor, so congrats to you.

You are absolutely right about the randomness of the ghosts during the eating stages. While I look at that video and see about 30K of possible points in missed ghosts left on the table, who knows how much extra time that would have taken? (cont'd)

  • Frankly, I'm just happy to be in the top 10 again after so many months of struggling. As you mentioned before, it's coming up on the one year anniversary and I really wanted to be one of the top names at that point. While 500K would have been the icing on the cake, I'm happy where I am.

I've been playing two and three hours a day or more for a solid six months at least. I haven't kept a count, but I bet I've played at least 2500-5000 starts, so I'm glad I finally made it!

    Thanks again!

  • You coulda got it if you were a second faster at 5:01

  • Yeah, I think it was a mistake to go back and get that fourth monster at 5:00... I got the extra 3200, but lost about 11K because I didn't get to that far lower right energizer in time.
