  • Fun times. Must have been fun looking for the 'white man's sickness' :o) And sixty pounds? Really? I haven't carried that much since I was twenty-two or three years old. Whew! You're better men than me. :) Thanks for the visit.

  • @rainbowhiker Hi John. The 50-60 lbs was brutally heavy feeling. But we only had to hike for about 1hr to get to camp, and we had to carry in some heavy mining gear and enough food for a week. The climb out was without food so it must have been more like 40 lbs. But to tell the truth, all backpacks feel heavy to me these days. I'm 53 years old. : ) Haha.

  • Hey I know its been awhile but.... Did you guys just find a spot and set up camp? Do you need to set that up with people at Feather River?

  • @Peter421 To be honest, we did just "drop-in". Where we camped was in the Plumas National Forest, which is public land, so no permits were required. It was near the town of Quincy. But, just a warning if you have dreams of gold in your mind. So did we, and we worked sunup to sundown for a week, and barely found enough to cover your fingernail. The places has been picked over many times over. But, personally, I did it just for and excuse to be outdoors away from civilization.

  • Brian, first Iet me apologise for taking so long to comment in this video...I've been a bit absent from YT lately, but now I'm really hopping to return..

And oh boy..what a great video this is..

I loved every moment of it..the beautiful landscapes, the river, the gold digging..you are very luky to be able to experience all that first hand..I wish I could too.. Just the nature there is absolutely overwhelming, so raw, so wild...very very impressive indeed...Thank you for sharing this with us.. :)

  • @flan984 Hi Rui!

I can see by your comments that you completely understood what it was like there. To be in this strange primitive, natural world. Yes, it was an experience I look forward to repeating too! We are already talking about "next year"!

Also, please don't worry about being away from YouTube for awhile. I know how it is. We must leave the wonderful fantasy world of youtube and go back to the real world now and then. I do it myself for weeks at a time!

    No pressure and no worries!

  • great music!, try indian drumming next time

  • @chitlinray Funny you should mention that. I bought an Indian flute and a shaman drum but I don't know how to play them yet. I wanted to take them with me. Maybe next time. My hope is to play like R Carlos Nakai in Canyon Trilogy! hahah -fat chance, huh! But I can dream! Brian.

  • It wouldnt be a true visit to your Channel without taking in at least one awesome camping/hiking video. I have missed these, Brian! I so love to see nature in America....to go back to the Wizard of Oz 'There's no place like home'! I have always felt such an affinity with both the States and the kinds of places you show. Just touch something in my soul :) And Matt is becoming a YT star!! :)

PS I havent forgotten about our hike one day - I promise when I am anywhere near, I will be in touch :)

  • @xxxSunbeamxxx Hi Sunbeam, I'm glad my videos can let people enjoy this Nature and Wilderness as I do. This was a special campout for me because we were in a very remote and isolated location. That made it all the more magical I think. I like people, but time away from them works wonders for the soul too! No worries about our hike. It will all happen one day in good time. : ) Brian.

  • This is what everyone wants to do in life! It's great to see you living it! Panning for gold and the whole thing! Really great stuff bri! I am going to put a link to it on my blog and twitter.

  • @TheFaustianMan Hi Faust! Yes, it was too surreal for me to take it all in for the first couple of days. There was the culture shock of comming from the city, with people and traffic, then being absolutely alone in Nature. I still need time to process all the "wonder" of it all! : ) Brian.

  • Great video, Love the music

  • @MrLewis530 Thank-you Jeremiah! I especially enjoyed the music myself, and it always pleases me when other people enjoy it too!
