i got fucked over with the battery pack one.... the batery was shot and sony cant sent me a new one because its out dated..... im out of 200$ and dont have a working camera.
Worst money I have ever spent. On and off buttons so small. Taking pictures outside it's impossible to see whats showing on the camera screen. When holding camera to snap a picture you have your finger over the flash ! Wish I had my money back !
i have this camera but having a problem with it. i have a ultra 16 gb sandisk card and when i shoot video the quality is pretty bad. does anyone know if it's the card or the camera that is bad?
@luisonia1218: I guess it's the camera because i read quite some reviews. Get a 16GB class 10, 15Mb/sec SD card.. heard that works great with the video.
the only VIDEOcamera (!) that is able to take horizontal pannig with out jumpiness!! never seen a better VIDEOcamera (panasonic tm900 fails in panning, 700dollars). wow!
the only VIDEOcamera (!) that is able to take horizontal pannig with out jumpiness!! never seen a better VIDEOcamera (panasonic tm900 fails in panning, 700dollars). wow!
I'm still getting used to this camera as its design has little flaws. 1) Camera flash will popup and my finger always gets inbetween. 2) Holding this camera I feel little uncomfortable but I think I need to get used to it.
GPS is very good, I got connected under 2 minutes.
There are lot of features which makes this camera a best.
Guys, I just bought this camera today and I love it. After investigating lot of camera's and finally I pinned down to HX100V and HX9V. But after looking at the picture quality and other features, then I found out Hx9V is best choice. Generally people will look at reviews and might think this camera image quality is not so good, but when I took couple of pictures and zoom on my LED TV and as well as on my monitor the image quality is awesome.
I bought this camera, and there are things I don't understand, although I like it: for example, the GPS, which signal my camera can't capture; or the Macro mode, which I don't know how to select; or choosing the exposure, speed and ISO values in Manual mode: how do you do it ? The manual is lame, it explains almost nothing. Can someone help me out, please ?
Does the HX 9V have the ability to shoot slow motion video? and is the sweep panorama processed and completed in camera or do you have to do it with software on your computer? Also is optical 16x zoom available in video mode as well? Thanks
Hi, I bought this camera today and I was testing out the video zoom mode on it. I noticed that when I zoom in the full way it 'jutters' at the end of the zoom or if I change from zooming in and out and in and out quickly. Its like the zoom mechanism isnt flush in its two parts and moves a bit with the sudden change of zoom direction. I also get it when the inner lense overlaps the outer lense. How did you solve this issue with yours? Post processing stabilisation?
Sony HX9V Zoom problem Just in case, please check the zoom before purchasing. we have the zoom unstable problem in the latest production of HX9V (serial number 227xxxx and 228xxxx) during the video mode. specially in 9.8x, 11x, 12x, 14x & 15X. it will start jumping up & down during the zoom even you mount it in the tripod ! Check that out in youtube "HX9V zoom problem", you will see this problem.
Great Review. Just want to comment on the observations on the videos I have seen on videos on you-tube and in the forums. The videos are not very sharp and are quite noisy. The pictures when looked at in their true original size they too are also not very sharp and are noisy. I was crazy about buying this camera but didn't because of the above observations. Just didn't want to do too much post corrections. Do you know if Sony will have a firmware update soon?
Excellent review! The 9V is definitely an upgrade from the 5V build wise. Do you happen to know what the file format is when shooting at 1080p/60p? I know with the 5V shooting at 1080i it was a mts file that was hard to work with, but am wondering if the 9V when shooting in 1080p is an mp4 format?
how is the 3d pictures? im having trouble deciding between the DSC-HX9V or Canon PowerShot SX230 HS and the 3d is one thing that would help my decision as i do have a 3d tv at home. i know this is 16mp as opposed to the sx230s 12mp but that doesnt mean much as other things can sway that balance... any help would be great
I'm having a hard time deciding between Sony DSC-TX10 and this model. I'm looking to replace my 2009 model Sony WX1 which houses a broken lens. Can you please help me out?
I found the problem, I am recording in ACDHD, and not in MP4. If I recorded in MP4, it plays back flawlessly. The ACDHD is mainly for playback on a HD television. That is too bad, I am planning on going to Hawaii in August and I would like to upload videos while I am there, then make a dvd when I get back. I wish it would record in both formats. My Sony camcorder is a HDD and only records in 480i.
I just bought one and the video is horrible. It plays just fine on the camera, but it is extremely choppy when played on my laptop. Even if I save the file, it is very bad. Anyone have any suggestions or do I just have a bad copy?
@gasitman You might need to upgrade you Graphics card for your computer to handle the HD video. There is nothing wrong with your camera I have had problems playing HD video on slightly older computers because of the Graphics/ Video card.
@joecoz26 I dont think that is the case. I have a dell with a bluray player and it plays blurays just fine. I will say that I was making videos on the intelligent setting. I tried with the actual movie mode and playing it through the laptop with windows media player it is choppy. Now if I let it play through Sony PMB player, it seems to be fine. I am going to call Sony right now and find out what is going on for sure while I still can return it to B&H.
Just an FYI, the HX9V is not the successor to the HX5. In fact the HX9V is the only sony camera in this class that did not replace an earlier model.
I guess it really doesnt matter ultimately but I just wanted to let you know.
I just upgraded from the HX5 to the HX9 and I am so happy! It is really an amazing package for a compact megazoom. I wonder what 2012 will bring, 3D HD 1080 60p video in a compact? (with 5.1 dolby surround LOL)
My Question, I just got the WX9 happy, but, the Movie, record bullet, way too small, is the movie record Bullet, and time LARGE med, or small. and when after you stop recording, it says recording , wonder what it looks like, I may need to go to BB to see it for myself?
hey..... great review!! .....does anyone know what the stereo audio quality is like from this camera......i go to lots of music concerts & nite clubs with very load music..
We shoot 1 hour programs for our church. Will this Sony dsc-Hx9v shoot video for 1 hour, and if not can you splice video in post production. And can you connect camera to power source to run and not use battery.
Sony HX9V or Canon G12? I know it's not a fair comparison because they're not in the same class, but I'm upgrading from a very old compact camera with 3x optical zoom. I'm mainly going to be using the camera for photography, not so much video.
please fully review the Sony - Cyber-shot hx9v!!!!!! i really like this camera but I've read some review about poor photo quality, please digitally digest!
Try both - maybe your local camera store has both to test. Take an SD card with you and try them both. Personally, I'm betting the HX9V is a LOT better than anything else, except possibly for (only) still photos on Canon SX230HS in some situations.
Thx. Would like to see more on the interface, and if there are any features similar to the canon or nikon color select modes (not sure on term for it -- but when the user highlights one color in the scene and all else is b/w). Thx again for posting this review!
Great review and very well detailed. I am struggling to decide with this camera or Canon S95/Nikon P300. I like the fact this camera has 16x optical but what I really need is a camera good in low light and know the S95 get great reviews. How do you find this camera in low light. Thanks
@ryanonpiano Sony's Exmor R CMOS Sensor can capture stunning photos even in low light. I have a camera(DSC-TX1) equipped with that sensor so I can really say that this one is good too.
@TheDigitalDigest hey im having trouble uploading videos to my computer. i just came back from a concert and i took a few vids and i really wann upload them to facebook but i cant find the vids on my computer. please help man.
I almost went out and bought this, BUT!
No eye piece!
I absolutely hate looking through the LCD!
With a passion!
That's the deal breaker.
You cannot see as much detail holding the camera away from your eye.

@ryanonpiano I have the canon s95 and it's a brilliant camera in low light....so i'll go for the canon.
