It was so convenient that Evelyn Carr was on the phone to over hear all that took place. It was deemed self defense .. bull crap.

I do disagree that Spirituals ceased about 1800. I'd guess they continued way into the modern era. "Go Tell It On the Mountain" was a recently discovered Spiritual, now usually sung as a X'mas Carol. This is stretching it of course but "A Change Is Gonna Come" might almost be classed among the great Spirituals!

I think he has the best tenor voice period. Hands down. No contest. Others have more range and can hit higher notes, but something about sam's voice alone is hypnotic and creates a bar that lacks comparison. In this song, it's sad and a bit raspy, but still soft and sweet. Like he's down, but not out for the count. I'm sad, but I have faith that I'll be ok in the long run. Only one Sam Cooke.
