Roosevelt made an investment in our country too. TVA was created, hoover dam- some great projects that benefited entirely. But we didn't get out of the great depression from building infrastructure- we got out of depression by going2war.

I agree with the stimulating of the economy with creating a new infrastructure (which is one of their jobs) and create incentives to push the economy into a new direction (green movement). I do not agree with the bailouts because these are obviously flawed companies, and their business models do not need to live on.

Those tax cuts did work. If you looked we had economic growth under Bush and it was due to those TAX CUTS. The current issue is because Government put their ass in the door of Private Business Allah the Banking and Mortgage industry and reducing lenders standards for the people. This opened up a slew of mess allowing people who didn't have the income nor the credit score to obtain these loans. They didn't pay them off. This crap started with the housing market then the credit and now economic.

Cutting taxes will do nothing, as people, regular people, will simply put the money in the bank, and the economy needs to be stimulated. Put in the right places, given to the right people in exchange for services, people who would otherwise be unemployed, and THIS money will circulate and stimulate the economy, not simple tax cuts or Bush's cheques to every American.

Well how would rich people save? Normally it would be in the form of investment. This part helps to create jobs as well. I'm not saying that the poor shouldn't have tax cuts but I think everyone should have tax cuts. This on top of other stimulus actions.
Rich people already know how to save, hence why they're rich. We're not talking middle class families here, we're talking the people who bring in 100k+. Rich people don't create jobs as much as the average worker. We create the demand, rich people only supply the means for mass production but jobs would be created with or without them. Tax cuts to the poorest is beneficial because they will spend everything they have, they don't save. When the economy is in a slump, we need spenders, not savers.
On top of that, all the extra saving people are doing right now isn't helping because businesses are too scared to invest in new projects and banks aren't making loans. Saving is good when the economy is good but right now we need spenders to create demand. So all that money people are putting away instead of spending is helping no one.
Generally rich people save by storing it in some offshore haven. There is little evidence that upper class lead to economic growth, although there might be evidence that lower class tax cuts do work. If poor people have money they spend it.
Rich people invest where? Bear Stearns. Madoff. IAG. They are pulling OUT of businnesses that employ people, like GM. GM would have been EASILY able to raise capital to get themselves out of the hole if the rich were interested in creating or keeping jobs and actually making things.
And i think this was a part of the culture. The financial industry kept promising better and better returns on investment which were truly unrealistic. Perhaps rich people will start learning to invest in real things again...one hopes

In a nutshell the Fair Tax is a tax on consumer goods, not on income. Everyone then pays to support the nation. It remain proportional as the rich buy things, businesses buy things, and so they will still pay the big bucks. Texas does okay with its consumer tax.

So now income taxes have been hiked by 66%.

1) We're using relatively few troops.
2) These "cavemen" are actually using American and Soviet weapons from the 70s and 80s and are rigging roadside bombs and using urban surprise attack strategies. Seriously, we started cutting tax rates on the rich from 70% down to 35% and what does the average Joe have to show for it? Since the early 80s the average income of the top 5% has quadrupled while the average income of the middle class has gone up only slightly (less than 25%) or stagnated. Working class/blue collar wages have outright dropped. Tax cuts gave us the 1987, 1991, 2001 and 2008 recession and have left us with increasing deficit:

You said that it got better because the rich paid less taxes, but how is that so? The people who make less money are the consumers in a society. If you saw there in your graph, there was a SURPLUS under Clinton. (Actually rather large). Bush no only brought down the debt on the normal curve, but he actually had to bring down the ENTIRE surplus and still create the largest deficit in our nations history

Very true though that effects on our economy are caused by decades of work, but i think that people should think that if the right are paying less in taxes, they are probably also getting other legislation pushed through that may not be good for the overall economy.

I do not agree with the bailouts because these are obviously flawed companies, and their business models do not need to live on.

Those tax cuts did work. If you looked we had economic growth under Bush and it was due to those TAX CUTS. The current issue is because Government put their ass in the door of Private Business Allah the Banking and Mortgage industry and reducing lenders standards for the people. This opened up a slew of mess allowing people who didn't have the income nor the credit score to obtain these loans. They didn't pay them off. This crap started with the housing market then the credit and now economic.

as of 2007 our tax % of GDP was around 28% which is low but not the lowest, and you better believe that number will take a huge increase once Obama's tax increases come into affect, and we spend a little more than a 1/3 of global military spending, which is still too much

First off he didn't take anyones money, he let the corporations keep more of what they earn. The word socialism in this case relates not to the economic system of socialism itself, but rather to massive government spending and the huge expansion of government. The reason the deficits are so high is because Republicans want to run the warfare state while Democrats want to run the welfare state. They have compromised and we have both. The solution is not to give these politicians more power over the economy and our lives. Look at their wonderful track record in the past. Look where they have taken us. It is a good point someone made that taxation didn't cause the economic crisis. However it is true that the actions of those conservatives want to cut taxes on did.
But I think the main point here is that the republicans have absolutely no ideas whatsoever on how to GET OUT of it and would instead have the entire country crater down the sinkhole and become a third world wasteland.

Well how would rich people save? Normally it would be in the form of investment. This part helps to create jobs as well. I'm not saying that the poor shouldn't have tax cuts but I think everyone should have tax cuts. This on top of other stimulus actions.

Rich people already know how to save, hence why they're rich. We're not talking middle class families here, we're talking the people who bring in 100k+. Rich people don't create jobs as much as the average worker. We create the demand, rich people only supply the means for mass production but jobs would be created with or without them. Tax cuts to the poorest is beneficial because they will spend everything they have, they don't save. When the economy is in a slump, we need spenders, not savers.

Generally rich people save by storing it in some offshore haven. There is little evidence that upper class lead to economic growth, although there might be evidence that lower class tax cuts do work. If poor people have money they spend it.

In a nutshell the Fair Tax is a tax on consumer goods, not on income. Everyone then pays to support the nation. It remain proportional as the rich buy things, businesses buy things, and so they will still pay the big bucks. Texas does okay with its consumer tax.
