  • this is the worst/best show ever

  • somewhere in the world, a man with a bucket on his head is smiling

  • Imagine being on a Carnival Cruise & seeing some shit like this for real?

  • I am Emperor Gilletteen from the planet Gargle. I come to sell you toiletries and other personal care products!!

  • So, did anybody else's mother used to go all "BATTLE AX" when you (and maybe your little brother, like mine) would imitate Giant Robot's "Jazz Hands"?

  • I remember watching this series growing up.

  • im 37yrs old and I grew up to this... was and still the best old time classic, every episode = uber!

  • I'm going to let my grandson watch when he gets older.

  • "A weird flying saucer".... LMAO

  • Is it me, or this show is pretty violent, well, for 60's standards? =d Anyway, awesome 1st episode. Can't wait for the next one.

  • So, if I understand this correctly, it's possible to set off an atomic bomb that won't leave a trace of deadly radiation and will only destroy a small base underground.

  • I watched this show as a teen back in St. Louis on KDNL TV 16. I liked it then. I like it now. Thanks for the post.

  • Draculas Colon = Dracolon

  • What happened to sound?

  • this robot seems alot like jet jaguar

  • @Gamerdude23691 Jet jaguar came after Giant Robot.

  • I use to watch this on channel 56 in L.A. I wish they would sell these on dvd.

  • Not a single bullet hole in that corridor...

  • You know what is funny. I haven't looked at this show in 30 years. Notice, Johnny gave the robot an order without talking in the watch. Also, this is the very first time they saw the robot, U3 said lets hitch a ride. How did they know it could fly?

  • I remember watching whole marathons of this show as a kid! Johnny and the secret agent gunning down those Nazi looking Gargoyal gang dudes with the creepy Jazz tracks playing in the background. Giant Robot kicking ass!! Classic!!!

  • I was born in San Jose, CA in 1971, and before I moved out of state, my mind always retained the memory when I was a kid and I used to watch the Flying Robot on tv back in the day. Thanks for everybody that posted the episodes on youtube. When I first started watching, I almost cried with joy seeing it again after all these years

  • Gotta love the japanese sense of design. It's such warped and deranged kitsch, you can't help but be impressed.

  • hey the video won't play!!!!! what's up with youtube? just see a white spinner but the video itself never plays. youtube needs to fix this problem

  • Back in '89 or '90, my brother got this on VHS at a comic book convention. I've loved this show ever since. However, the title was "Voyage Into Space". Turns out that was the name of a movie which was really just 2 & a half hours of selected episodes strung together with no break (open & end credits) between them.

  • I think Johny sokko has to be the coolest kenny ever.

  • MGM is releasing the complete series on dvd in a 7 disc set. Day one purchase for me to go on the shelf with "Ultraman", "Iron King", "Super Robot Red Baron" and "The Super Inframan". Now if someone would just release "Zone Fighter" on dvd.

  • INCREDIBLE! In the early 70's I grew up watching this show in NJ. When we moved to NM, it wasn't played. I haven't seen it since! OMG! Thank you!!!

  • All of you can laugh if you want; this was something in its time. It may be hard to watch now but its still something for those who really liked it then. Its still better than that sci fi rubbish or thoses women-in-prison flicks that is being played today. I'm still trying to figure out how the japanesse airforce got a hold of all thoses SR 71s? I thought it was a top secret spy aircraft!

  • That Robot does look egyptian. Cleopatra would be proud!

  • On of my childhood favorites!

  • I used to watch this with my younger brother in NJ starting in '75. I was 11 & he was 7. By today's standards it was cheesy, but we loved it. I used to wish I had that watch and that rocket pack to fly home from school with.

  • @towringer Yeah right ! Like television TODAY doesn't have it's share of cheesy garbage,.. like Dora The Explorer and Spongebob !

  • @Skulldini "Dora, Dora, Dora..."

    OH, S.T.F.U!

  • I always wondered who would win in a fight between Giant Robot and Ultraman

  • @justyn2006 Well, they're both heroes but let's face it, Ultraman would win hands-down. Ultra has the speed, the hand laser, and acrobatic ability. Of course his weakness is that he has about 5 minutes of energy. Robot is governed by voice commands, and has limited sluggish movements, though on the + side he has brute strength and a long term power supply. Ultra still edges him out.

  • @justyn2006 gaint robot of course

  • loove the old man in this

  • This is GREAT! I've never heard of this before. Saw most of the GodZilla Movies, but never heard of Johnny Sokko.(Sock-oh). I grew up in Minnesota, maybe it was an east or westcoast thing. I can see where the Power Rangers got their BAD GUYS from.

  • anyone here watch the anime for this, "Giant Robo"?

  • My question is, what happend to Johny Sokko's parents ? Were they killed on that ship ? ...or was that kid on that boat without any adult guardian ?

  • Very good question.

  • Dracolon must have awakened on the wrong side of the bed. Shit, talk about destructive and attitudish...!

  • Gotta luv Giant Robot! One of my all time favorites.

  • When you were a kid in the 1970's, this show was the shit!

  • my dad told me of this show and it is pretty cool. it reminds me of ultraman and i love the flying dragon that looks like varan.

  • not the monster from this episode but from another one that i sall on fancast.

  • Man, I usta love this shit .... I also hated Johnny Sokko's guts because that bastard had a big ass robot and I didn't. Damn, I envied his little ass. I had a flip up watch but no robot to go with it ....... Power Ranger don't have shit on this .....

  • This is so cool! I used to watch this show when I was a kid, back in the early 1970s and this brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for posting these episodes!

  • do i need to subscribe to watch these episodes?

  • Is this a true story?

  • Damn, I remember watching this back in the early 70s when I was wee high to an ant and way before Anime was ever intro'd in the US.

  • I don't want whole grain!!

  • wtf? and what is this kid doing handling a pistol?? lol!!

  • @thekydd95

Kids were more responsible back then... (smile).

  • @LetFreedomRing LOL!!! I see...lol!

  • Wonder who would win in battle, Giant Robot or Godzilla??

  • Wow, thank you for the videos. I remembered this show growing up. Wished you allowed it to be viewed on Mobiles. Otherwise, I have to watch it on my computer. but thank you for the video.

  • Man, Manno has got to be the worst secret agent ever. Great hair though. Even after nearly being drowned in the ocean it's still perfect!

Anyway, I love this show! Yeah, it's cheesy and simplistic but it's still a lot of fun. Super Heroes take themselves to seriously today. Not that that's always a bad thing, but it's nice to just have something that's unselfconsciously crazy and awesome like this.

BTW, "Johnny" was originally Daisaku Kusama. Yeah, The Giant Robo anime was based on this!

  • Didn't the robot basically sacrifice itself in the last episode? I remember him having to fly into outer space with some enemy thing that was going to explode in order to save Earth. Anybody remember this?

  • Yes, that's what happened. I cried on that part.

  • OMG! I remember this show. My friend got bootleg copies in Chinatown, NYC back in the early 80's. Good times!

  • Oh Father in Heavan, I am about to show my age for sure!!! I remember seeing this as a little kid with my brother and cousins everyday after school many moons ago!!! I would do anything to relive those days, thanks for the memories!!!

  • this is too cool! what a flash from the past!

  • am i the only young person loving this show.

  • nothing like clasic japanese sci fy. but its kind of cheezy by todays standards even godzilla though I love to watch it since I rarely get to see it anymore even if the effects are not cutting edge puppetry as they were when it first started to be made back then.

    I love anime also

  • I am with you all the way. I have not seen this in exactly 30 years. Do I miss it. This is real great stuff.

  • This was my favorite show as a child. It was fun watching it again after all this time! Thanks!

  • If I'm right Spider is Takeshi Kaga from Iron Chef, his real name is Shigekatsu Katsuda. I read that somewhere:/

  • Is that NigaHiga at 5:05?!

  • I remember watching this when I was a child. I watched all of the japaese monster shows back then.

  • TOTALLY cool...

  • Is it me, or is this an awful lot of carnage for a children's show?

  • no it's not you-no way they would let kids watch this today...

  • I agree. They would never show this or even Looney Tunes now.

  • This is totally Awesome, i watched this when i was like 7 years old and now im 40, this seems to be the Movie which i loved so much as a child ! Now we just need the TV Series ;) This is truely a CLASSIC of all CLASSICS !

  • Wish people(snobbish nose brats) show some respect. Classic and cheesy films like this, it maybe, it help pay the pathway towards films that is out today.

  • It's nice to see this show again. I first seen this show back around 1973 and 1974. I had long forgotten about this show over the years and forgot about the show's name, and been trying to look for it. Thanks for sharing them!

  • this is that old school

  • BUCKETHEAD FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Godzilla would rape this hoe robot!!

  • I dunno, I'd think it'd be pretty even.

  • what is this?????

  • some weird ass show...

  • Masks haha.. saves a lot of time when it comes to matching up voice overs. Oh.. I love the quote "strange space craft" (is there ever a 'normal' one? haha ) and the fire and smoke coming out the back... in space. I love this stuff.

  • wth did i just watch O_O

  • Isn't Gigantor the American version?

  • It's by the same Japanese creator (Mitsuteru Yokoyama).

  • Oh, so in terms, they're the same. Just animated/live action?

  • like Id like to know how that kid knew all his abilities lol

  • why the hell is a woman voicing Johnny?

  • I use to watch this when I was young, I always thought it was called giant robot

  • Just what the H*LL is American Int'l Television? And it's rated mildly violent & disturbing - my favorite kind!

  • AIT was the television arm of American International Pictures, a company that was famous for both westernizing Godzilla as well as many Roger Corman flicks. It churned out a lot of B-movies, either original or adapted from overseas films, and was very influential. It folded, and was bought by Orion pictures, who was also bought by MGM.

They produced or distributed a lot of films, ranging from Blacula, to the Abominable Dr Phibes, to the Amityville Horror and Mad Max.

  • Blacula?

  • Imagine Dracula redone as an blaxpoitation movie, like Shaft. Hokey as hell.

  • Why does the robot look egyptian?

Good enough though for our entertaining.

  • @danny2mil YEAH!

    Head like a Sphinx!

But as little kids, we never could say that... I think I was about 8 then and our (3 boys - 3 girls) little brother was 6 and he and I used to ask how come it looked like a "statue" or "pyramid"...

  • @danny2mil lol i always thought that

  • who else is now a fan of this because of Buckethead?

  • Its like the Japanese are so use to giant monster now theirs no shock and terror it just MONSTER /sigh

  • "I love that giant robot," said my three-year-old daughter. "It has guns."

  • American Children's shows during this period (1967) were so tame and lame compared to JOHNNY SOKKO -- with the notable exception of JOHNNY QUEST (1964). Sure, it's completely unrealistic, but it's reality television boring? I'd much rather loose my mind watching JOHNNY SOKKO than SURVIVOR -- because how can that possibly match machinegun-toting beatnik villains in Italian shades?

  • Great show. It really fed your imagination as a kid. I remember being super-pissed when they killed him off in the final episode. Damn you, Guillotine!!!

  • I had to write an essay on this show. I never really watched it before, but why did I write an essay on this now?

  • Do you guys realize that all the episodes are coming from a company (MGM Digital Media) and not a person on Youtube I hope...

    Cool show...Thx MGM!

  • CLASSIC STUFF!!

  • this is corny ass shit...i love it...cant belive i wached this as i grew up...lol...

  • you wacked to it? sick!

  • Imagine the Power Rangers series. I can't believe that series STILL in the air on ABC and Disney Channel........

  • 5/5

  • I feel like I just watched a cross between The Creature from the Black Lagoon and an old Power Rangers episode.

  • WTF!!!

  • Johnny's hair is like Zac Effrons and how young boys where it now, how cool!!!

  • OMG!!! I can't believe you have this!!! I remember watching this after school, and couldn't believe how cool!!!

  • Lol, whatever these giant dudes touch they blow it up.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!

  • lol, s bad

  • Wow, live-action Japanese shows are...unique. I'm not quite sure where to begin: the squadron of SR-71s, the 100-lb Thompson SMGs, the casual and cavalier use of nuclear bombs, or the Beatnik Nazis / North Koreans. Classic!

  • 11:01 Classic 60s: Arm the kid with his own gun--huzzah!

  • OMG! Johnny Sako! I remember when I was a kid trying to turn the antenna north to get channel 20 out of Detroit because none of the local stations carried cool shows like this or Ultraman!

  • Did you have Captain Twenty out there?

  • I remember this bring back good memories. Thanks

  • I cried when he flew into space and died

  • use to get stoned and watch this

  • Oh, thanks! Used to watch these on WPHL Channel 17 UHF from Philly in the mid-seventies. Wee WIllie Webber's kiddie show afternoons at 3 or 4 after school. Anyone else remember this?

  • i used to watch johny socko -n-his flying robot on captain cosmict on chanice 2 back inthe 1970's.

  • I don't remember Wee Willie Webber, but I remember this show being on Channel 17 in Philly. I was about 5 or six then, though. I think this show is what geared me toward anime.

  • Did you cry when the giant robot sacrificed himself in the final episode? I did.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't remember, but I probably did. Maybe that's why I don't like sad endings.

  • Hey! Thanks for the spoiler!

  • Do you remember Dr. Shock?

  • Are your referring to "Mad Theatre" or "Horror Theatre?"

  • Saturday nights at 7 in the early 70's, right?

  • Dr Shock's "Creature Double Feature" Saturday afternoons.

  • This is one of the BEST shows ever made !!!

  • I LOVE THIS OLD SHOW

  • wtf why do americans do this to other countries. Hey I know let's make a DragonBall movie and ruin the anime series. FUCK AMERICA!!!

  • There is no Dragonball movie.

  • yes there is.

  • You don't seem to understand, there is no Dragonball movie. Nobody ruined our fond memories.

  • there is to a dragonball movie. it's called draganball evolution and if you don't believe me look it up.

  • -_-

  • You still don't understand. There is no Dragonball movie. It does not exist.

  • really show me where it says it's a hoax, or where they canceled the production.

  • WTF do elitist shits get their panties in a bunch when a series gets sent to America? I say that the Japanese need a more universal approach to their anime and manga and that fucktards like you, masterofthewicked89, need to have their e-penoring selves sent to the hottest, most fiery furnaces of blackest hell with satan and his minions poking you in the ass day and night with their pitchforks and burning your ass with flamethrowers and napalm.

  • But the dragonball evolution movie was really bad. Even though it doesn't exist.

  • This show is hilarious. ;D

  • after world war 2

    a 1960's Japanese show

WHY did they do the Nazi salute?

    at 18:00

  • That salute is older than the Nazi Party. It emphasizes that the bad guys are bad guys.

  • I don't know what's the best thing about this-- the cheesy dialogue, the bad dubbing, or the awful special effects haha XD

  • Well, two of them are American. The third, the special effects are forty-one years old. Not bad for a television show back then... but then again, this was produced for children, so one can hardly criticize it for not being "realistic."

  • wat da fuck

  • Fantastic. Real out of this world feeling.

  • freakin sweet!! Thanks for postin!

  • his transmitter is dead, but his hair is immaculate ... too funny

  • anyone remember the name of the program similar to this one? It was about a boy who could turn into a jet as well as his sister or mother, can't remember whta she was, and his father who was a gold man and would turn into, of course, a gold jet. Was on about the same time as this program. Anyone remember?

  • When I saw this program listed, I thought that's what it was. I remember that show. And the real odd thing was that I watched in Mexico dubbed in Spanish.

That other show, for some reason, I recall the letter "U" being associated with it. If you figure it out, let me know.

    Thanks!

  • Hi.

You're looking for "The Space Giants".

I may not have the correct spelling of these names, but some of the characters were Goldar, Miko and Gam.

I'd been searching a long time for the show, too, so a while back, I used my search engine, put in the names and got my answer. :-)

There are some clips on Youtube.

    Enjoy!

  • thanks for posting the answer i have been trying to figure out the name for that show, last time i saw it was in 78 on KTVU. thanks :)

  • I'm glad I could help. :-)

  • When I was a teenager, I was a consultant for Bob Wilkins on the "Captain Comsic" show, and recommended a number of series, including JOHNNY SOKKO -- which was hugely popular. Later, Bob thanked me for listing JOHNNY SOKKO, because KTVU was able to lease a five-year run of the entire 26 episodes for only $2500!

  • That would be Space Giants (dubbed version) aka Magma Taishi (original japanese version)

  • THE SPACE GIANTS, known in Japan as MAGMA TAISHI. The robots were Goldar, Silvar and Gam, who were advised by an ancient man named Mathusm. A young boy, Miko Mura, was able to call them with a special whistle. They fought together against the evil Rodak, who desires possession of the Earth.

  • LOLZ! didn't buckethead do the music to this show?

  • He's greatly influenced by it. I see why. But, no, the show's from 1967, so he didn't do the music when he was -2.

  • lolz... I'm sorry for my stupidity, i didn't know when the show was made

  • A giant robot, a boy, and the boy's mentor: a bloodthirsty spynow THATS good television!

  • It's basically just Ultraman 2.0.

  • johnny

  • This was my favourite show when I was a kid!! I am so glad to see it again ^_^

  • this is fun to watch, reminds me of those godzilla movies!

  • It was the same company that made them (the Gojira/Godzilla movies) , too (Toei), only257. Also, believe it or not, but they made some pretty good martial arts films in a morea real life setting starring, among others, Sonny Chiba (Street Fighter, Return of the Street Fighter, etc.). Now if only these two threw down for a fight...that would be epic, or, better yet, teamed up against the Gargoyle Gang and Emperor Whatshisface.

  • thanks notjustanotherface!

  • GODZILLA was made by Toho Studios, the same company that produced the epic Kurosawa films and a lot more; JOHNNY SOKKO was made in 1967 by Toei Tokyo Studios (famous for its Yakuza and Chanbara movies), and created by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who also created GIGANTOR. The same team on JOHNNY SOKKO went on to produce KAMEN RIDER (1971) and GORANGER (1975), which lead to the POWER RANGERS.

  • johnny my ass!! american producer? american writer? my ass!!!

    is pure jap!!!

  • I agree so much

  • this hurts my no no place, the boats were full of illegal fire works and smoke bombs

  • There is just nothing these days to compare to the great classics like this! Kids really have less these days! So darn sad! Y awake up on Saturdays and whats on..? News, ESPN and infomercials and a bunch of hapless movies! There is no fun anymore!

  • So true, all they have on is pokemon, digimon and a watered down verson of power ranger, and kamen/masked rider. the kids don't know a thing about spiderman, the hulk, batman, godzilla, ultraman , etc. glad to see you can still find these good old shows for free.
