You can not call it a poor try. You play what is in front of you. Ieuan did that and scored. good winger's try.
As it happens I was at the match but thought I would cleverly beat the rush by popping to the toilet just before half time. I'm an idiot did the same at Wembley when Shane Howarth scored just after halftime.
Evans and Underwood...well Rory fucked up here. But let's be honest both world class...but different types of wingers. Evans was quick, but Underwood was flat out one of the fastest wingers ever.. They were the wingers for the Liosn test team in 1989 and 1993...so pretty damn good.
Rory underwood made a silly mistake- fair enough! But, let's not forget what a world class player he was!!! Off the Mark he was electric and a fantastic finisher. If he is not as good as evens, please explain his try against Wales in '94, when he showed him a clean pair of heals and '95, when he scored a brace! So to all you wankers that no fuck all, I suggest you try another sport!!! Put Rory in the professional era, training, diets, sports science and all that, he would have been untouchable.
What the hell was Underwood doing? Evans was a much better all round winger, in a weak Wales team at the time. Won the Lions series v Australia (Campese error), and see his superb try v Scotland
Cardiff Arms Park. Every New Zealand rugby fan regarded it as one of the world's great grounds. When my parents visited Cardiff in 1980, the highlight for my father was being allowed by the groundsman to walk out onto the grass. Then they pulled it down and built that awful Millennium Stadium in its place. The first time the All Blacks played Wales there, the grass looked like it had been painted on.
@MarsFKA - I couldn't agree more. The atmposphere in the Arms Park was electric. And such an imposing looking place. The Millenium stadium takes it all away by being too big for it's own good. Plus, the Millenium stadium is trying to be too many things in one box. If it's a rugby pitch then don't have removable grass. Complete waste of time and it ruins the game by being impossible to play well on.
I watched this try on TV. England was writing off Wales and Ireland in the toruney...said that the only real competition would come from Scotland and France. They beat those teams solidly, but Ireland and Wales chewed 'em up...ha, nice thinking guys.
ieuan evans came to my school in ireland 3 years ago and during the talk with d school i was sitting up the front and i was made to push-ups wit him on my back, barly did 2! lol hes a legend!
Rory Underwood - your a joker - and Jonathan Webb - one of the worst full backs I ever saw play internional rugby. Thank God for Ieuan giving a glimmer of hope in the dark days of boring English rugby
I remember watching this game in my house (in England) with my wife (who's English), staying in and not going to the rugby club because we were skint (got a £3 for 3 litre bottle of cider from Somerfield). 10-9 at half time, 10-9 at 'no side' (as Bill would say) - there was dancing on the streets of Derbyshire that night, I tell ye! After this game, my missus made a Valentine card (told you we were skint) with two bears in rugby jerseys with the 10-9 scoreline on it - still got it today..

Oh dear , you appear to be wearing the same bigoted glasses handed out by Twickenham to all home countries in the 1960s. I met Ieuan Evans as a 14 year old when he toured here (New Zealand) in 1993.

ieuan cenydd evans is my favourite rugby player of all time
3 lions tours
record welsh skipper
top try scorer at the time with 34 test tries in a lousy welsh team
scored 7 tries in 7 cup finals won 5 of them
won leagues and cups and helped his home town beat the world champions australia
he also rounded it all off by winning the european cup
200 tries in 230 games for scarlets says a lot
on top of this 6 shoulder dislocations, 1 snapped ankle and still he we the most exciting player ever
