  • my name is Ieuan

  • nice video

  • nice video

  • You can not call it a poor try. You play what is in front of you. Ieuan did that and scored. good winger's try.

As it happens I was at the match but thought I would cleverly beat the rush by popping to the toilet just before half time. I'm an idiot did the same at Wembley when Shane Howarth scored just after halftime.

  • I'm Welsh so not taking anything away from Ieuan but Underwood was having a kip.

  • Evans and Underwood...well Rory fucked up here. But let's be honest both world class...but different types of wingers. Evans was quick, but Underwood was flat out one of the fastest wingers ever.. They were the wingers for the Liosn test team in 1989 and 1993...so pretty damn good.

  • Rory underwood made a silly mistake- fair enough! But, let's not forget what a world class player he was!!! Off the Mark he was electric and a fantastic finisher. If he is not as good as evens, please explain his try against Wales in '94, when he showed him a clean pair of heals and '95, when he scored a brace! So to all you wankers that no fuck all, I suggest you try another sport!!! Put Rory in the professional era, training, diets, sports science and all that, he would have been untouchable.

  • @tweetingbanksy Met Ieuan Evans today, lovely bloke, you can hear him on my blog post.

  • What the hell was Underwood doing? Evans was a much better all round winger, in a weak Wales team at the time. Won the Lions series v Australia (Campese error), and see his superb try v Scotland

  • Cardiff Arms Park. Every New Zealand rugby fan regarded it as one of the world's great grounds. When my parents visited Cardiff in 1980, the highlight for my father was being allowed by the groundsman to walk out onto the grass. Then they pulled it down and built that awful Millennium Stadium in its place. The first time the All Blacks played Wales there, the grass looked like it had been painted on.

  • @MarsFKA - I couldn't agree more. The atmposphere in the Arms Park was electric. And such an imposing looking place. The Millenium stadium takes it all away by being too big for it's own good. Plus, the Millenium stadium is trying to be too many things in one box. If it's a rugby pitch then don't have removable grass. Complete waste of time and it ruins the game by being impossible to play well on.

  • I watched this try on TV. England was writing off Wales and Ireland in the toruney...said that the only real competition would come from Scotland and France. They beat those teams solidly, but Ireland and Wales chewed 'em up...ha, nice thinking guys.

  • i came in a young boys mouth exactly as ieuan scored that try

  • one word......beautiful!!

  • ieuan evans came to my school in ireland 3 years ago and during the talk with d school i was sitting up the front and i was made to push-ups wit him on my back, barly did 2! lol hes a legend!

  • I met Ieuan Evans as a 14 year old when he toured here (New Zealand) in 1993.

He struck me as a top bloke, and became one of my players in that Lions squad to watch.

Not to mention he asked if my Mum was single! haha!

  • Rory Underwood - your a joker - and Jonathan Webb - one of the worst full backs I ever saw play internional rugby. Thank God for Ieuan giving a glimmer of hope in the dark days of boring English rugby

  • ieuan cenydd evans is my favourite rugby player of all time

    3 lions tours

    record welsh skipper

top try scorer at the time with 34 test tries in a lousy welsh team

scored 7 tries in 7 cup finals won 5 of them

won leagues and cups and helped his home town beat the world champions australia

he also rounded it all off by winning the european cup

200 tries in 230 games for scarlets says a lot

on top of this 6 shoulder dislocations, 1 snapped ankle and still he we the most exciting player ever

  • thats some serious pace there,he was a brilliant winger and an absolute gent off the pitch

  • Goosebumps every time...

    Great try, great player!!

    COME ON WALES!!!

  • when is that ???

  • I remember watching this game in my house (in England) with my wife (who's English), staying in and not going to the rugby club because we were skint (got a £3 for 3 litre bottle of cider from Somerfield). 10-9 at half time, 10-9 at 'no side' (as Bill would say) - there was dancing on the streets of Derbyshire that night, I tell ye! After this game, my missus made a Valentine card (told you we were skint) with two bears in rugby jerseys with the 10-9 scoreline on it - still got it today..

  • what was underwood doing. 9/10 times the winger kicks it out.

  • The Welsh fonz, class.

  • how is this is a poor try? he didn't give up his kick or his run....

    it''s a good try

  • Just love the advert on the stadium just after Ieuan scores at 0.41 - Wonderfuel gas

  • Poor Try - Underwood should have covered / cleared the ball

  • should've but didn't there is no such thing as a poor try

  • @leedsbulldog Poor Try! You must be Joking. As Bill Says "It's a very good try"

  • @grandslam1998

He only said it was a good try as it is such a rarity in our game - not many to compare with unfortunately for us. Rugby League has the bragging rights here - tries galore !! We prioritize goal kicks and drops - Has to change

  • @leedsbulldog Yes tries galore in rugby league because of poor tackling.

  • @grandslam1998

Oh dear , you appear to be wearing the same bigoted glasses handed out by Twickenham to all home countries in the 1960s. There are a few left wearing these in my Club (Roundhegians - leeds) and they are patted on the head and left alone. I have talked to my consultant and arranged for you to have a long stay in a nice home with men with white coats.

  • @leedsbulldog I used to think I was working class until I went to Leeds. What a one eyed lot. Put on your flat cap and take your wippet for a walk to see your mates at that nice home with men with white coats. When are you seeing your consulant again? Sooner rather than later. You need help fast!

  • @grandslam1998 Oh Dear, To add to all the charges , the accused has shown his true colours by bringing class bigotry into the equation , Not a bright move , and as such the prosecution rests its case - Oh for an egalitarian state (Do you want me to explain that to you ??)

  • @leedsbulldog Well you started it with your supcilious prig attitude. You are one of lifes tragic ironies. (Do you want me to explain that to you??) Did your consulant say you were a Troll? Great try by Ieuan. Enjoy the Six Nations. I know I will!

  • @grandslam1998 Quote"You Started it ""Do you want me to explain that to you??" " I used to think I was working class until I went to Leeds" Unquote,Its Like having a conversation with our club President who is a Barrister, Nice but dim, calls Names,Hasn't an original thought so copies phrases from other members of the management team, and is a pretentious overbearing Snob. Turn on Catch up T V and watch the feast of Tries last Sunday served up by London Wasps v Worcester & Saracen’s v Gloucester

  • @leedsbulldog No you started it. Do you want me explain that to you.You said I had bigoted glasses and that I needed a long stay in a home.I'm sure Club President speaks highly of you! It's really bold of you to slag off your Club President when he/she is not around to defend himself/herself. Have you ever held office? Or do you just snipe? like you do on Youtube! Do not look for the speck of dust in another persons eye, when you have a plank in your own. Yours for Rugby.

  • @grandslam1998 I Submit, I give in,You've worn me down.Your attitude is symptomatic of everything that is wrong in our game,You are Pompous and Elitist. We have to have change our game in management and off the pitch as the Ox-bridge led Media will not carry us through forever.the head of Refereeing has stated that the game has hit a brick wall with the ruck & maul, and it has to change. But with the likes of people like you within the game,it never will.Take the chip off your shoulder,Don't reply

  • god what a try.. but welsh rugby was so boring back then b4 u say sumthing i am welsh!

  • I agree, the point I was trying to make was that because of the lazyiness of the English Winger, It didn't need anything special to score , most mediocre Players even a prop following the ball could have scored.

  • i doubt a prop could have paced a winger and a fullback from 10 yards behind them...

    tosser

  • A prop could have outrun that overated winger who stopped running ' as the commentator' said. What a typical rose tinted rararah you are. You probably won't be able to read this as you are too far up yur own arse

  • rose tinted wat?

    ur witty u r...

hed up my arse thats a gd 1, really original

  • A "Rahrah" - It's what league-following northern fuck-wits (more often then not from the Yorkshire side of the pennines) refer to Union players as.

Best ignored to be honest. They're pretty harmless ooop-norf, it's mostly bravado.

  • eddie butler biased

    maybe towards england

jiffy is great he says the truth

if he thinks wales will lose he would say

john inverdale is a real prick

  • Bill McClaren, the best commentator ever. Eddie Butler and Jonathon Davis are absoute pricks. Far too biased. Bill McClaren never was, even when his beloved Scotland was playing. Ieuen Evans, a great player, and a nice bloke when I met him once. As was Rory Underwood.

  • hey good news my name is ieuan evans my dad he named me after him

  • BRING BACK BILL MCLAREN

  • And they'll be raising a glass or two on the streets of Pontypridd tonight, I can tell you...

    We love you, Bill McClaren!

  • i hate him he critics every single moment of welsh rugby and he never won anything never beat anyone hes rubbish . hes no shane williams

  • Never won anything? Won the triple crown in '94, 2 Lions series (in Oz '89 & SA '97), 3rd place in IRB 1987 World cup, Heineken cup in '98, 5 Welsh cups with Llanelli RFC & a couple of Leagues with Llanelli RFC this is quite a bit more than Shane. A little tip: there was a lot to Welsh Rugby before Shane Williams & the Grand Slam in 2005.

  • yhh but there was alot of bad times aswell like getting beaten by somoa not the best ! but as for the 70s (magic) !

  • Yep like losing to Romania, Canada & Italy, however during those dark days there were some good times and as you said the 70's (and don't forget late 60's) were magic.

  • right you have got to me there there was gd times but there was dark times too !

  • good try

shame about underwood and webb not reaching him

  • more like...underwood and webb blow

  • u clearly have no idea about rugby

  • actually, I know they were good, but, basically, fuck them because plain and simple, fuck England

  • u not english?

glad u think so - they r my family!

  • actually, I'm American, but my family is from Wales

  • This never gets boring even after watching it thousands of times. He was the best winger in the world in my opinion. Yip even better than Campo, just was unlucky not to be playing in a better team

  • Yeh second after Gerald

  • Still one of my favourite rugby moments ever. Epic.

  • I was about 12 when I saw this live at the Arms Park. It was absolutely fantastic, and I still use it to wind up my English mates.

  • snap!

  • bill maclaren - what an ace commentator. Now we're stuck with bloody Brian Moore....

  • true that.

  • I'd take 3 days of Brian Moore over 2 hours of Starmer Smith's and Barne's circle jerks...

    But McLaren wara teg, awesome.

  • ieuan evans try against scotland in 1988 is a beauty but i cant find it on here.

  • Eddie Butler is right - what the hell was Underwood doing?

  • underwood was a great player often underused as for Ieu well he was simply a genius and off the field a phenomenal ambassador for all thats best about rugby football

  • Bill McClaren is the best commentator ever!

  • hell yeah

  • good try, counter attacking rugby at its best. Even though we lost its a great try to watch

  • If anyone asks me what is the try I most remember it's this 1!!!!! It helps that Ieuan is bleeding gorgeous and that it was in the days that the shorts were just the right tightness :D

  • im named after him

ieuan jenkins is the the name :)

  • lol!? shut up ieaun :P

  • how'd you find this video??

  • I think the fullback theyre on about was JPR he was bleedin awesome

  • and like terrum, im named after JPR, jame speter rhys :)

  • stuartgunthorpe or should i say .... Spewatcuntflap try's to be clever and makes a right cunt of himself.. what a fooking asshole lmfao.

  • I am always being called a cunt on here! :-)

  • What about everywhere else?

  • 'ch Cymraeg ydy bagad chan hysgum chan 'r briddo cunts! Fucking wankers!

  • hahaha! ill ave u kno that makes no sence at all!!! well done cuntthrope!!!!

  • stuartcunthorpe!! why so silly? silly sausage!

  • welsh scum!!?? ma' nhw gyd yr un peth!! twll dyn bob saes!!! cymru am byth!!! oh yes and god save the queen stuartgunthorpe!!! or should i say stuartcunthorpe!! sily name

  • Pam mae'r Saeson ddim yn gallu deall pam rydyn ni'n gwell na nhw? Twll dyn i bob Saes! Cymru am byth!

  • Ieuan was the greatest 34 test tries in the worst period of welsh rugby ever. triple lion. european champion etc Genius.

  • what makes it even better is that dewi the turnocat morris knocked it on originally to give away the turnover

  • Underwood? A living legend? Maybe in pizza advertising circles.

  • you mean a legend in the sense that he's one of the best back there of back 3 players of all time? better than any of the welsh full backs. ever.

  • hang on a second that's just plain silly, not just because Underwood was a winger not a fullback, but also because the greatest fullback the British isles has ever produced was Welsh

  • Gavin Hastings was Welsh?

  • serves underwood right indeed - but you have got to admit - there is no way you can deny underwood is a living legend

  • Awesome try! Serves underwood right for bein cocky n not sprintin back

  • Emyr Lewis - if he dropped a few tries, the tarw could've been a fly half.

  • When the wheels came off the chariot I was there, When the wheels came off the chariot I was there,

And when Underwood was sleeping, Ieuan came a kreeping,

When the wheels came off the chariot I was there!

  • Legend!

i love how cocky Underwood was being jst jogging back to recover the ball, then Ieuan comes outta no where!
