Wait... you think he's GOOD at tapping? It sounds horrible... His right arm is way off of his left.
The amp is good tho. And it works as a metal amp too. Though i would recommend getting a distortion pedal if someone wanted to use it for that purpose. Check out Pascal Vs review to get a better picture of the amp.
Can anybody help me on deciding what tubes to swap on this classic 50? Im looking for a high gain lead (blackstar, bogner) and a medium clean (standard peavey meets vox). I run a couple of pedals thru there also..but I would love to rely on the true tubes for the distortion...appreciate any help you guys can give.
I just bought this exact amp but in the black tolex version. It is fucking amazing and can't wait to gig with it. By the way thanks for the good demo on this amp.
I will warn you. After some point these amps do break and are not repairable on a more permanent basis. I've had one for about 12 years and it DID last about 9 years with the same tubes and an acceptable tone still remained. The problem is that mine personally has malfunctioned and so have other players Classic 50s (and had the same issue with volume/tone cutting out at random times and returning to normal randomly).
I play alot of metal and blues. I was thinking of buying this amp and using the effects loop for my Boss Metal Zone so i can get a nice clean sound and a tight metal sound. Is this a good idea?
This is basically a blues and rock amp (as its name says). It's cool for such music, but for sure won't act as a high gain amp. The clean is really cool, you can also get a sweet crunch and really rocking-out overdrive. When "charged" with additional dist., u can get a punchy overdrive, cool for hard rock etc. I use Boss DS-1 and it's a good "upcharger" for this amp.But don't use the overdrive in the effects loop!It sounds better when you overdrive the input signal (guitar->ovrdrv->amp).
Dude check out a Laney GH50L or the LH50. Depending on how much cash you want to spend both the Laney amps are heads but there's a nice matching cab GS212IE that kicks ass. The head and and cab is about $1400 for the extra cash I'm sure you would be much happier.
@candi8669 I agree with Boryskow. Putting a distortion/OD pedal in the effects loop isn't something you want to do. The purpose of the effects loop is to put effects after your pre-amp's distortion. Things like reverb, chorus, phasers etc are what you want there, after your distorted sounds in the signal chain.
@candi8669 I have a peavey classic 50 and use guitar->metalzone->amp or guitar->any effect->amp
and the channel is so amazing and really clean that you will have a great sound with your effects! the clean channel is as the name sais, clean! so you will get a great sound with the sound of your effects. At least that is for my ears! My favorite amp.
Although 1:35 I do agree with that point. I've got one of these and that is a cool feature. I have other amps that I love, but to adjust volume on stage you have to just take a guess on matching both channels.
this one is more universal, the overdrive is way better than the fender's one. however, fender has this beautiful "fenderly" clean channel. it depends on what you actually need
this amp is the poor man's super reverb. i played one last week and liked it. still like the fenders better. this amp had no chimey overtones, but i was pleased nonetheless. i give it a thumbs up.
Is this amp good for SRV/Clapton? but also capable of classic rock? if i have a ts808 would you recommend using it rather than the amps drive channel?
This amp is great for blues and classic rock tones. I picked this amp over a Marshall TSL because it has such a great vitange tone; and I have used Marshalls my whole life. I couldn't believe I bought a Peavey over a Marshall, but I am not disappointed with my decision at all.
The video starts with him tapping using the worst tone ever, following that is the superb classic 50. Was the intro there to make the Peavey sound even better?
i have the classic 30 myself...it's almost the same amp except for its 30 watts instead of 50...for a medium sized room its much easier to control.i have the head w/2x12 cab.the 30 doesnt have the fan and the presance control or the master volume.
Thanks for the demo, I have been shopping for an amp for about a year. I can't make up my mind. I don't know whats with the boneheads critisizing your video. Their greatest life accomplishment has probably been running to the fridge.
man... my experince with peavey is that their stuff is not dependable and of poor quality. but that was back in the 80's/90's. any beter these days then the chreap crap i've used in the past?
Bought a classic 50 2years ago slightly used and have not had any problems. Have not changed tubes but it has not left my house and it is made in the U.S.A. Its a bit big for the house and you can here the fan at low volumes.
Thanks, bro. This will help me on my decision as to what amp to buy. I DO love the sound, but it may be TOO bluesy for me (I play darker sounding stuff). I don't know what's up with these haters on here. You rock, and seem like a kewl dude. Peace.
yeah, but it's not me on the video, i just found it on the net and put on youtube, 'cause i fought it may be quite useful. i was looking for some good overviews of this amp on youtube and hardly found any good. but this one help me a little bit. i have peavey classic 50 now, but the version with 2x12 :) it's realy great
I have a fender 410 hotrod deville which keeps breaking on me, Is the Peavey classic 50 410 reliable?

ok the tapping lick does not suck
most all tapping sounds similar without any reverb or delay
and yes this guy can play so it's most def a joke
