I love how everyone's so shocked that Damian Lewis (Major Winters) is British xD Some of the cast said they refused to believe he was British cos his accent was so good :D
I love this miniseries. It was, and still is, awesome :3
A big reason things like this are produced in the UK is the fact that apart from our expertise , a whole wealth of props are never more than a few hours away , as we are a nation of hoarders, collecters, generally nerds lol. If you were to film it in America ie Hollywood , you may have a company in NY state that does the smoke, another in Texas that does costumes etc, and its all a bit expensive & time consuming getting it all in one place. Being a small island has its advantages !
@kingewan no. but it gave them an idea. they can take what they went through at boot camp and mentally multiply that by a hundred and they have a clue that the average civillian doesnt.
I feel slightly sorry for Damian Lewis because this is a wonderful American accent he's put on, but he's overshadowed by other actors like Hugh Laurie. I think that Hugh and Damian have the best American accents out of all British actors.
@KuostA The fact you are 'flabbergasted' that he is English shows he obviously had no problem with the accent. He was picked because he was not only a good actor but had the right look to represent Winters.
Winters, Roe, Wyn, Alton, Martin - English, Liebgott, Welsh, Heffron, Christenson, Talbert, Penkala, Cobb, Hoobler, Blithe, Dike, Ranney, Meehan, Evans all played by British actors.
If you want an actor to be from the actual country then Mel Gibson would never find work!
i didn't realise that liebgott was english too. Londoners eh, they get everywhere. Incidentally Damian Lewis is very posh and went to Eton. True story. Probably means nothing to you if you're american but it means he has a lot of kudos for not being hated for being posh. There is a horribly class war in England by the way. If you're wealthy and successful you're hated. It's kind of like the american system in reverse. Visit England. It's nice. Sort of.
would love to have a rubber MG-42 just to do exactly what Tom Hanks did, toss it at someone, would be funny as heck to see their face right before they catch it!!
THAT IS ABSOLUTELY FLABBERGASTING. The most AMERICAN guy, winters, turns out to be English, with a british accent...WTf?! Enlighten me, why did they bother using him inthe first place for an american person, why bother having to make him fake an ameircan accent whenthey could just find a true americanactor and get over this voiceproblem to begin with>??
There wasn't a voice problem... if there was, you wouldn't have been surprized he was English. Just because he's Englsh doesn't make him non-american. Plenty of American citizens have accents. Should we start profiling people based on their race and how they talk? Besides, what it comes down to is how they played the role. And he played it to a tee. I'm pretty sure that if your going to agrue the casting of him by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielburg, your not too bright to begin with.
because the guys that played him fit the part i dont know about you but i didnt hear a british accent come out of his mouth through out the whole series

I envy you - in Czech Republic, no relics like this are available... I would also like to collect weapons from WWII - I only have authentic ammo for Mosin Nagant
Technechly they are the same but the Carbine was much more easy to carry around, espicialy for the paratroopers they had metal foldable stocks unlike the Garand and I heard somewhere that the Garand get jammed/breaks more often than the carbine does. But other than that they are pretty much the same
Yeah! I also looking up stuff about weapons that a lot of people dont know, theres some intresting ones such as the Panzerwurfmine, Einstossflammenwerfer 46, and ur gonna think its funny but a Nazi explosive chocolate bar grenade, look these up :D
The M1 Carbine fires a small .30 caliber round which is more like a pistol round. Some had folding stocks, which are what the paratroopers used. Others had regular wood stocks. The M1 Garand was a rifle and fired a large .30-06 round. The Garand shot 8 rounds from a clip, and the carbine fired 15 rounds from a magazine.

M1 Carbine was fed from the bottom and it was faster shooting. Garand was fed from the top and slower rate of fire.
