For one thing, you map is all wrong. New Mexico, Arizona and Southern California are not a part of the south. You missing Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. Your map is totally wrong.
Maryland could not be a southern because it had DC in it. Delaware has never been a southern state. I think the imaginary Mason Dixon line you are referring to is wrong. You can verify that on the internet and history books.
