I'm very impressed that Obama was wearing the bracelet at that very moment, and was thoughtful enough to reflect on it as he read the name. Clearly, he stumbled a bit in forgetting to mention the soldier's mother, but he got it right in the end, and I'm sure that she, her family, and everyone in Green Bay was very proud of that moment. A very good moment, for both candidates. What an exciting election! Makes me proud to be an American!
Yes we know that. That isn't the point. The point is Obama tried to deflate the impact of McCain's story by saying he has a bracelet too. There is nothing wrong with that either. There is something wrong with not knowing the name right off hand and stammering and stuttering all over it. There would be no issue here if Obama properly executed the plan. But he didn't. It came off real bad for him.
McCain looked at his bracelet at LEAST 3 times before mentioning the name.
He was just smart enough to start his speech of FIRST, THEN mention the name of the soldier after he'd seen it at least 3 times.
Watch the video (not this edited video the actual video where McCain starts talking about his bracelet). You can't say he didn't look at it.

You do know that McCain tells that story at every stump, right? It is a well rehearsed monologue, like an actor in a play.
