ACTUALLY THIS IS a solo which he often uses live in "Immigrant Song"...
Listen to Immigrant Song in How the West was Won...
Its so goddamn similar... Maybe jimmy likes quoting his own solos from someother songs... For instance he usually implements phrases from Tea for One into Since I've Been Loving You solos live.
True. To me, Page and Hendrix are up here. Everyone else, as talented as they are and as much as I love most of them, are down there. Well, there are others who are pretty high up though. Like Satriani and plenty others. But you're right about Hendrix. He was one of a kind and there will never be another one like him. Will there ever be one as good as him? It's possible... But not like him.

one of my fav zep songs, but personally i prefer rory gallagher and the finger god sir jeff beck. there all top of the tree though. you can"t play much better than any of them! also respect to ry cooder, duane and django! & jimi hendrix!!!
Jimmy's the master of 'feel' , energy , and emotion. All these "technique'" guys and Jazz-fusion dorks like Beck are soulless wankers in my book. Its no coincidence that Post-Yardbirds , Pagey created the beast that was Led Zeppelin while Jeff Beck mostly worked on cars.
@sauter25 He is NOT God! He is Jimmy friggen Page. My fav guitar player for sure. I thank God that Jimmy is not God! Jimmy is not The almighty no matter how kewl Jim is. Jimmy does not provide for me air, water or food nor does he give the gift of eternal life. He does however rock!
eh...its not so much that its 'hard' to do, but what amazes me is how much soul he puts into playing it. you know like nebody can hit notes (btw, fuck you shredders!) but something about his playing style just excites me but at the same time puts me at complete peace + meditation.
yeah im trying to get my hands on this type of emotional soul puting in playing guitar just like this, i mean... your right anyone can shred but i'm trying to get my feelings through the guitar... jimmy page and steve clark is what it's all about
obviously i already tried that. found great bootleg archives but what i was trying to ask was do you know of any websites where you can download bootlegs for free, and what is the url? cos all the sites i found on google you couldn't download anything it was just a list of album names and songs
kinda, that's not really that close overall to the studio version, but im sure he could still do the same thing right now if he had to, that's why he's the best imo
it is improvised, but within the context of the song. Its not like every single musical idea that he played in this solo was thought of right then. He had layed solos like this before, and continued to play them in the future. Each one was different, but they were based on the same riffs and thigns.
I do the same thing. First I'll write out a whole solo. Practice it. Then when I want to go and improvise a solo I'll play only certain parts of the stuff I made up in advanced because it sounds cool. And it gives the solo for that song its own trademark because it has a certain lick in it or I'll play a certain pattern. But most of it will be improvised. I'm not as impressed with guitarists that don't ever improvise any of their solos. Improvise some at least. You might play something great!
I can't comprehend Jimmy's genius no matter how I try, I can't believe it's possible to play in such a way. Pure genius.

The best version of the OTHAFA solo I have heard is from the 1973 bootleg 'Where the Zeppelin Roam'. Jimmy almost blows Buffalo off of the map.

I love the solo in this song. My personal favorite is from "Listen to This Eddie" 7-21-77 I believe?
DeathPersonified 3 years ago
"Listen to...." was actually recorded on 6/21/77, the first of a six night stand at the LA Forum.
The one on "Deep Striker" (6/27/77 Last night in LA) totally spanks the Listen to this eddie version.
Haha.
plickplock56 3 years ago
Close enough. There are a few subtleties I like in LTTE.

the best over the hills solo i have ever heard was in 2 12 1975... it was way longer but this is my definate number 2 its fantastic

This is the Madison Square Garden version of TSRTS right?
scarfacedan09 4 years ago
yes, in my mind, heartbreaker from the srts is his best
psuzeppelin5 4 years ago
they should have added this to the TRTS DVD instead on the bonus disc ..
JimmyPage360 4 years ago
I'm sooooooo sad they didn't show him doing all of the heartbreaker solo :(
psuzeppelin5 3 years ago
they just had to show that stupid robbery thing over it, they should have just showed them do the whole song..
JimmyPage360 3 years ago
yeah, he probably played with his teeth behind his back too :(, he's so friggin good
psuzeppelin5 3 years ago
They were not allowed to edit the video of the TSRTS as they don't own the rights to edit the footage (long story).
Thus they couldn't add Over the Hills, Misty Mountain Hop or The Ocean to the original movie.
