I'm currently making a documentary about circuit bending and I have found that circuit bending isn't about music. You can make music with it but the fun of circuit bending comes from the lack of responsibility on your behalf. There is something extremely satisfying about ripping apart something stupid and useless to make something silly/scary and useless. I have met people who bend analog video mixing desks to create awesome, audio sensitive visuals.

The sound of geese has been on fucking amazing records as supplementary sounds to give a sonic pallet depth,In my case,I don't like 90%of what comes out of circuit bending, the last 10% for me is a texture i can use along with more conventional music,to add some flavor. For people who have been writing and making music for years and are tired of knowing that they are doing, love the randomness circuit bending because they have very little direction and control over its end results.

see that isnt true at all. first off, if you don't like noise as a genre, you aren't going to get any of this at all..its about having a fondness for those sounds...and whether or not they are pleasing is completely subjective...secondly, a lot of this stuff is used in more pop oriented music..musicians like beck and mike patton utilize them in much more "musical" ways.

"why would you enjoy annoying noises?" it's just a case of wether the noises are annoying to a person or not. I find it quite funny to make an alarm clock make rumbly noises while it's just not supposed to do that. Ofcourse it's pretty pointless but it's really just about reïnventing a circuit board and make it do things that it's not supposed to do. Some people enjoy it.

But seriously. I think one of the things of circuit bending is the whole "Holy shit, I'm making this thing go completely nuts, let's see what else it can do". I suppose not all of them make GOOD noises, but a few vids show you can get a funky beat going out of something that's normally pretty plain sounding.
