@HitMan1263 Not staged. It was a heavily modified AE86 against a stock R34. That's Tsuchiya's personal Hachi and was the Touge Monster for quite awhile. Check out some of the Best Motoring vids and you'll see.

There's no chance that 34 is going to keep up with a heavily modified 86 in the curves. On a drag course? Maybe. Get a clue. ;)

@wayenying yes i agree. It wouldnt be the same if the other guy was in the hachi and got his ass handed to him by the GT-R because Tsuchiya was driving it. But it still stands that the GT-R was meant for circuit racing all day. Fast into the turn, idle through it, full power out. I've had an R32 GT-R. Widebody too check my profile and look at my photobucket you can see all the cars i own.

@wayenying Nago is the second largest Japanese city in Okinawa-Shi prefecture. They have a decent little track for drifting and once in a while they do circuit racing. I think you're reading too deep into the 86 vs the GT-R. The slope wasn't even that great. The main thing is, power to weight ratio, handling, power band, and of course driver. Obviously Tsuchiya is a great driver.

@DizturbedFan even then, the r34 still has the hp and drivetrain advantage, but there is one thing that plays a key role, the weight. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure that the r34 weighs a couple hundred pounds more than the ae86, which gives the 86 a higher exit speed out of the turns, and on a course thats almost 75 percent turns (probably more), the one that gets the best out of the corners (or has enough skill, or is Keiichi Tsuchiya), will most likely win.

The GT-R34 weighed a whole thousand pounds more than the 86, meaning, not only was its cornering speed lower, it was a LOT lower, and it had to put up with a lot more braking strain. That means the tires wore faster, the brakes got hotter, and the driveline and engine had to deal with a lot more variation between engine braking and acceleration. In a downhill race, with the 86 ahead, and Tsuchiya at the wheel, the R34 can't win.
