I was present for this. Both during the exhumation and the re-interment ceremony. I was overjoyed to be a part of seeing history in the re-making so to speak.

Years later, the Articles of Confederation were dropped and the new U.S. Constitution was created - George Washington was made president then. But technically, Samuel Huntington was the FIRST president of the United States of America UNDER the Articles of Confederation in the early 1780s.

So as this couldn't be done with the Huntingtons still inside they were removed until the project was complete.

They obviously tried to show him as much respect as they could but to me it always feels wrong to be digging up peoples remains for any reason and there does seem to be a slight element of voyeurism with anything like this.

@greenooze1500 green....the tomb had not been maintained since 1920 when a few bricks were replaced. It was falling in on itself and needed to be rebuilt. While it was being done the State of CT archeologist and team came in and took the bodies out. This was the reinterment into the new tomb.

This is the problem with videos like this on You Tube. It's author has made a huge and really silly historical error in calling Sam Huntington the 1st Pres. of the U.S. We all know who that was. He was one of several ceremonial Presidents of the Continental Congress (including John Jay) during the War for Independence against Great Britain .

No, this was the body of Samuel Huntington. Mr. Huntington was the first president under the former Articles of Confederation. Years later, the Articles of Confederation were dropped and the new U.S. Constitution was created - George Washington was made president then. But technically, Samuel Huntington was the FIRST president of the United States of America UNDER the Articles of Confederation in the early 1780s.
