  • @issy5977

Don't take everything so seriously. (Randy is a satirical writer. He writes songs from the view points of people with extreme ideas about the world.) Thanks atomashen, I couldn't have put it better

  • @issy5977 says you

  • @issy5977 Prove it.

  • @issy5977 ...

  • I love money but it seems money does not love me

  • you cant keep the 16yr old girls ill take limo filled with cocaine

  • Thanks.

  • Great satire and songwriting. A master. Wison - Parks - Newman.

  • good song when in upswing on poker

  • @saoolv ...wow. this song is satire, but anyone who would generalize jews obviously wouldn't understand it in the first place.

  • @saoolv What a sad, sad man you must be... I use the term 'man' loosely.

  • @saoolv ding ding ding--give that one a banana

And yes, it does make sense that a musically inclined West L.A. Jew penned a catchy song that faithfully reflects Me Decade rednecks such as yourself

  • thats a fair point..but randy newman is certainly small and hateful in spirit.. songs MASSIVELY over rated.

  • @mrswozzle Randy Newman is over 6 foot tall you moron...

  • It's randy that I love

  • To all those that don't get it, this is SATIRE.

  • @crazypianolady to some respect it maybe is..

  • @crazypianolady no.he would have you BELIEVE it is satire, but he really means it. short people are the most evil, historically....Hitler, Kim Jong il, Genghis Khan, and of course, the jews of which he is one.

  • @mrswozzle Maybe that's what you think but that's a slight overgeneralisation. There are lots of evil tall people too - Idi Amin, Saddam Hussain, Fidel Castro and of course Osama Bin Laden.

  • well, dear! you can't have an opinion unless you listen to something! So that bit of advice is a wee bit impractical. I did like one of his songs "you can keep your hat on" because of the hilarious lyric..the sight of someone you know being naked the whole time but wearing a hat! That is funny!

  • He is a very rude man! I have listened to his lyrics and he and I BOTH know that this is what he really thinks! Stop trying tog et him off the hook! just listen to "Political Science", "My country" or any of his so called "Great" songs. He is a small man with small man syndrome who appeals to others like him who are embittered and jealous of others, mainly jews.

  • @mrswozzle I respect your opinion, even though its wrong, and ask that if you dont like Randy's music couldn't you just reframe from listening to it ?

  • @mrswozzle The fuck man!?! That last part was just flat out racism. Not cool man...

  • @EthanRaymond69 how so?

  • @mrswozzle He's 6 foot 4, not a small man.

  • @mrswozzle

if you were familiar with Randy's music, you'd know that he's mocking prejudgmental idiots like you

  • @atomashin how so?

  • @mrswozzle

Randy is a satirical writer. He writes songs from the view points of people with extreme ideas about the world. Characters in his songs are sociopathic and don't reflect Randy's opinions. His songs are in some matter a protest. Here, he creates a money-loving stereotypical character, that racists would claim to be Jewish because Randy is. Songs like Short People, Mr. Sheep, My Life is Good are written in the same manner. "God's Song" shows what Randy thinks about religion, look it up.

  • love it..

  • He's on Pixar auto pilot now, but Randy used to be a monster.

  • me too

  • He's better than good.

  • @Tremley4 thats the whole joke stupid...

  • @Tremley4 you must be an idiot to make that comment.

  • @Tremley4 His family are secular jewish but this like most of his songs are ironic jokes, satire and just funny piss takes.

  • Haha... I'm used to the Randy Newman Songbook version from 2006. Kiiinda surprised to hear 'Sixteen year old girl', rather than nineteen!

  • @gabe25591 yup...sixteen is the original album-version

  • Newman hates Jesus and the black man, and he loves cocaine & money, what a pimp!

  • Something about was said about truth being stranger than fiction I think the song could be more about truth than fiction but Oh Mama its money that I love - Ever try to live without it????????

  • What a well written song. Holy crap. Timeless.

  • Ah, another perfect song for Wall Street, these days more than ever... money and better yet, power

  • one of the most satirical and smartest singers/songwriters of all time

  • 1/2 pound of cocaine

  • sixteen year old girls randy! shame

  • @INTOTHEGRINDER

    It was 1979. Netherlands.

  • @INTOTHEGRINDER What man hasn't thought about 16 year old girls

  • @WestcoastMusicals

I was just joshing everyone likes sixteen year old girls and whats not to like

  • is he talking about the Beatles when he sings "they say that's money can't buy love...." ?

  • @awhitecrosswalk thats a very common saying that beatles included in there song, so it could be but he could just be using a already popular quote

  • scofak, I'm just wondering how I could get a copy of this. Does it sell on DVD?

  • nobody writes songs like this

  • he realy is great

  • honesty, pure and simple, oh my god

  • BLUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He looks like Woody Allen

  • Do americans, who lack irony, get his american's irony?? I wonder...

  • It's not fucking Gospel. It's a mix between rock, blues, boogie.

  • they say that's money

Can't buy love in this world

But it'll get you a half-pound of cocaine

    And a sixteen-year old girl

And a great big long limousine

    On a hot September night

Now that may not be love

    But it is all right

I love randy newman! holy shit!

  • @6Adrian7 He's describing someone else.....probably you.

  • I once dreamed I had died and went to heaven. St Peter welcomed me at the gate because I was a Catholic (he told me ever different person was greeted by whom ever would most make them feel welcome and at home, and we both laughed about that because that was so funny of God to be so accommodating seeing we do not really present him like that at all). Anyway Pete told me Jesus loved a good sing-along and asked me to sing. Next thing Jesus, I and everyone were singing "it's money that I love". Haha

  • @ Supergurl110

    Sigh , Is it AS rude as to disqualify someone else's lighthearted opinion , because your expierences ,not only include a god, but are also favourable towards that god? In fact , take away that line that so offends you and you HAVE your anthem :}

(since you like caps so much I thought I'd join in)

  • I really think its RUDE that TJcollatrella said this should be the national anthem! Did'nt ANYONE hear him say "i dont love god, he did nothing for me"!! Well i dont know about you but.. I do love god and he does EVREYTHING for me.

  • @Supergurl110 It's called satire. Even God understands satire, It seems you don't.

  • @Supergurl110 awe thats cute she loves god! what a good little american church girl :)

  • @ravenslax16 I'm an atheist and you don't have a sense of humour.

  • @Supergurl110 Even Jesus had a sense of humor.

  • @Supergurl110 yeah but how could Any God bless these united states?

  • @qwertzxcvb1000, same god that bless every other fucking country in the world!! And he doesn't discriminate at national borders!!

  • I've never heard status quo done on piano before

  • Randy wasn't putting down ELO.......Do the research......coke & chivas???...Baltimore?...hell yes!!!

  • @InitiateZ Um...yeah he was - check out The Story Of A Rock And Roll Band. He also slapped the shit out The Who and The Stones in "I'm Dead and I Don't Know" ("every record that I'm making/Is like a record that I mad/JUST NOT AS GOOD" and Jackson Browne and Mellancamp on his last album. The man is fearless and doesn't give a fuck. He writes what he feels and it shows.

  • @InitiateZ

According to an interview he did around the time the album came out, he WAS making fun of ELO.

  • Look at the year...

    prophetic.

  • This should be made our National Anthem why not it's true..!

  • I dedicated this all over the Net too Evan Bayh..!

  • corporate music at it's very very best

  • Yeah and he totally never sold out. Toy Story was an important sarcastic look at...something, right?

  • @Alfrunk

Randy's uncles, Emil, Lionel and Alfred Newman, were famous composers who worked in movies and TV. Emil wrote the 20th Century Fanfare. Randy's works for films is following in his familiy's footsteps, not selling out. I personally prefer his regular songs to the ones he's written for movies though.

  • my brother lived and died by the words in this song. thank you randy

  • hay man no one deserves that that mean.

  • An insightful song that cheers me up when ideal fail me and been fucked over but false truisms and bull shit.

  • His stuff is always a little ambivalent - Rednecks mocks 'em, them turns knife on Yankees...

    Oh mama...

  • I know KISS comes to many people's mind, but all I can think of is Wall Street.

  • You know what I say about the starvin' children in india, I say, "Oh mama"

    lol pure genius

  • I believe this was a parody of Kiss...on the album cover (Born Again), he's wearing Kiss-makeup.

  • ???

  • I mean the song itself, with the lyrics especially, talking about how rock bands tend to be all about making the big bucks...and it is believed (what with the album cover) that he had Kiss in mind

  • But where does the "Kiss Make-up" come in?

  • on the cover of the 1979 album, "Born Again"...from where this song originally came, Randy is pictured with his face painted up somewhat Kiss-like...go to Google-images & type in "Randy Newman Born Again"...you'll see

  • OH HEY! YOUR RIGHT!

    Thanks for pointing it out

  • a pleasure :)

  • @Eddie62070 Yea, dollar signs on his eyes, cent signs on his children in the photo, hahahaha, Randy takes no prisoners, album was a blast on on lot of different parts of society, but yes, the cover was clearly a slam on KISS (After all, its Money KISS loves....hahahahaha)

  • @swrider5400 true...I have been a fan of Kiss for about 32 years....but yeah they ARE rather money-hungry

  • @Eddie62070 Meant no dis-respect, seriously. KISS had some great tunes. More that Randy had this take no prisoners approach, on the same album he blasted ELO pretty bad, also. KISS was really just the album cover thing. Randy started doing movie soundtracks. Actually, uh hum, remember Oingo Boingo, and Danny Elfman, hahahaha, big jump from "Little Girls" into ad nasuem SoundTracks. Its money that they all love, as well as me, but I don't seem to be as good at accomplishing that... |:-)>

  • Love of money is the root of....what?

  • Early 1980's Roberto from Argentina living in Cascais ,Portugal.....He loved this song.......Great days!

  • This songwriter/performer is one of the rarest who can throw chills up the spine with dead on icy cold in your face truth and humanity.

  • @edsdet Oh you must think you're so goddamn poetic.

  • The gospel according to Randy:)

  • There's a movie with Sally Field and Michael Cane (comedy) that uses Randy's song (this one) for its theme. It is such a funny movie-I wish I knew the title so I could purchase it-anybody know?

  • The movie is called "Surrender"

  • thanks for posting!
