Gotta love a small car with big power! I'm building an Ac Cobra with 1uzfe. Semi-drivable and it lights up the tyres pretty easy!! Gotta watch that throttle. Get you into trouble!!
Tyres are not a problem, I don't really drive the car on public roads, or drive it at all for that matter. I gotta admit it's kind of dangerous, the standard brakes are not up the the task.
well i just exploded i have z20 soarer and i dont wanna go down the 1jz route like everybody else looking at getting a 1uz simply sounds amazing! and seems like a pretty cheap conversion all up
Fuck yeah mean 180 man, I wish mine went that hard, its only got a fully worked L20B ae lol. I need to hurry up and gt it back from da paint shop so I can post some videos of it.
Nothing special really. Original log style manifolds back to separate 450mm resonators, Joins into single holden catalytic converter, then into two straight through mufflers.
I just kept adding mufflers and resonators until it was quiet at idle, well quite enough so I can drive it around with out anyone knowing that it's got a V8 under the bonnet
No it's NA, no turbo or anything. I have done a shift kit in the auto (made a huge difference), and better exhaust than standard.
This car is very light 1150kg with me in it, I can drive it anywhere with out reving past 2000rpm so It's better on fuel now than when it had the old 4 cylinder engine
Yeah you are right, it isnt driveable yet, hopeing to have it driving before Christmas.
I am a Datsun fan from way back, my first car was a 180bSSS, With a comination of (from memory) it had the 1600 block, 1800 crank, 1600 rods, 240k pistons, made it about 2.1 litres, had twin 45 mm webers and 3 inch exhaust, that was a fun car.
Lotsa wheelspin though, what rear end you running in the lil datta? If you got the time and $ you should go for a IRS out of R32 Turbo skline. That should help a bit
how ya get it to fit?

how much was the swap total? i was thinking about doing this when i get a datsun z
johntran 3 years ago
I'd guess around $3500, including $2500 for the half cut.
Don't forget I did this swap in my shed.
For a workshop to do the swap it'd say about 7-10k
SiFDP 3 years ago
that is wild, well done man 1uzfe in a datsun 180b classic, power to weight is too much.
gtfloor 3 years ago
Yep. Power = heaps, weight = bugger all.

what type, size, brand exhaust?
souds like a 60's cosworth F1

Nothing special really. Original log style manifolds back to separate 450mm resonators, Joins into single holden catalytic converter, then into two straight through mufflers.
All pipe work is 2 + 1/4 exhaust.
SiFDP 3 years ago
are the stright through mufflers glass packed or just chambered?
captainpegs07 3 years ago
glass packed,
I just kept adding mufflers and resonators until it was quiet at idle, well quite enough so I can drive it around with out anyone knowing that it's got a V8 under the bonnet

really cool. I'm adding a 1UZ to an rx7 FC. The sound of a 1uz won out over the Ls1 and you have it just right!
cheers

dat engine sounds monstrous, badass!
latinoboi681 4 years ago
Yep I'm putting one in my gemini, Is the engine A front, mid or rear sump? What gear shifter did you use?
Cheers
ivile 4 years ago
The one I have is a mid sump, and I used the original shifter out of the car.
SiFDP 4 years ago
Does that have the stock 4 speed auto?
Ill06Taco 4 years ago
yes, but it has a home made shift-kit in it.
Home made as in I made it myself, It cost me $15 and has made 1st and 2nd gear's change faster and raised the box's overall pressure.
SiFDP 4 years ago
Details? Im in an automatic transmission class that just started so Im not quite sure how to do that!
Ill06Taco 4 years ago
I got all the info off forums, but basically the gear changing speed run's of spring tension.
All you have to do is add bigger stronger springs for the 1st and 2rd gear springs.
In my case I added 8mm thick spacers to give the springs more tension, thus making it change gears faster.
The pressure for the entire transmission is also controlled by an adjustable spring, so all I did was tighten it up to the next level.
It's not a real shift kit but after 2 years it's still working fine
SiFDP 4 years ago
Freakin love it!
cambo61 4 years ago
Cool vid, mate. Did you boost the motor with a turbine? I've got that motor in an LS 400 and wouldn't you agree it's quite thirsty?
ZechsSetsunakute 4 years ago
No it's NA, no turbo or anything. I have done a shift kit in the auto (made a huge difference), and better exhaust than standard.

SiFDP 4 years ago
Aye, it's a very light engine and smooth as gravy... My sedan is over 1800kg with me in it, so it's probably why I'm getting poor economy.
ZechsSetsunakute 4 years ago
Not exactly the smartest place to be giving the car a boot full, dont worry about other people, traffic or kids in the suburban streets.
CobraBoxhead 4 years ago
Yeah your right, I can't argue with that
SiFDP 4 years ago
It is still a great engine in a sleeper car, have fun with it, just be careful.
CobraBoxhead 4 years ago
The annoying thing is, the closest drag strip is 2 hours drive, one way
SiFDP 4 years ago
I am nearly finished building a car aswell, mine isnt quiet a sleeper though, I have some video of the first start up which was about 2 weeks ago.
It is on here.
CobraBoxhead 4 years ago
That's a nice car, and it sounds mad! always loved the ls-x engines. I take it it's not drivable yet? Video please!
My 1UZ-FE will soon be removed from this Datsun and installed into a 240z witch I'm currently doing the steel/bodywork on a the moment

Is this engineered? If so, in what state?
Have you got any outside pictures of it posted anywhere?
dunniss 4 years ago
No and that's why there's no pictures of the outside on the net.
I could go to the hassle but the car's only worth $300
Beside's iv'e picked up a 240z so I'm going to swap everything into that
SiFDP 4 years ago
Ha, no problemo, my mate has done the same thing except he put a VG30ET into his 180b (same faded orange). Surprising how easily it fitted.

Running standard IRS with a upgraded diff out of a 6

Yeah I had a look at your video just the other day, and I have the V8 badge on my grill too.
How much does your car weigh?
SiFDP 4 years ago
I think mine weighs about 1400kg but at least its lighter than a soarer.
Gareththedrummer 4 years ago
Cool, sounds just like mine! :)
Gareththedrummer 4 years ago
That has got to be one of the best sounding cars i've ever heard!
I plan on doing a v8 swap into a 240z in a ver short while here. any tips?
blindstrike 4 years ago
I had planed on doing this very thing, but the asking price for a 240Z these days is out of control.
The only tip I have is if you do the conversion your self like I have, everything is a tight fit, very tight!.
The main thing that didn't fit was a huge V8 trans that had to fit in a tunnel where a tiny 4spd manual once was.
But it's so worth it, This car only weighs 1075kg
SiFDP 4 years ago
sounds nuts from the inside :)
