hey anyone know the best place to look in notheast ohio for salamanders ive been looking for some in the wild but it would be great if there was a website i can buy them off of were did u get yours
here in sweden there are no animals worth having, I have alot of frogs in my backyard but thats about it. there are salamander in my area but ive only seen one like 8 years ago. but they are really small
do u know how long it takes? i read that they change when their ponds and pools dry out but i dont want to do that to my larvae.. so i want to knwo how long it takes
HELP! my A.Tigrinum is morphing! I think its day 3. How do I know when to change to a terrestrial environment? How long does metamorphosis take? Do I change his diet? He is starting to just lie on the bottom of the tank, and isn't eating much... What do I do?
Hi, I am getting a larvae salamander and was wondering, is it better if you keep them in pairs? and how many months (years?) before the waterdog changes?
How many you keep together doesn't matter. 1 or 10 is fine as long as there is enough room. In captivity tiger salamanders usually take about 3-5 months from hatching to reach metamorphosis, depending on the climate and the species/subspecies.
What I mean to say is, salamanders and heat pads don't mix. So no, it's not a heat pad. It's actually a section of plastic I cut out of their lid, and I like to feed them on it to keep them from eating too much substrate along with their food (something that happens with earthworms, for example).
why are yours so active i have had mine for like 8 years and he just dig alot of tunnels and stays under his water dish but he is the biggest one i have seen 14 inches long
1- Not all individual tigers become tame - I collected 3 (you see the third at the end) and only two behave like that. This has been my experience time and again over the years.
2- I collected these as 8 cm larvae and raised them to metamorphosis and hand fed them from that moment on. 99% of the tigers people have were caught as adults or adolescents and didn't get this treatment.
are they active or always asleep?

true but dont half of the tiger salamanders come out to those little vegitarian ones and the others turn to carnivores wat if u get a vegitarian one
onlylust1 2 years ago
No offence but you're talking rubbish. No such thing as a vegetarian salamander.

how do you get the larvae to go through metamorphasis????
poiboi44andtyler 2 years ago
You don't. It's natural - it happens on its own.

Thanks! I just got my larvae today and its doing great! Just one more question, How much do I feed it?
dugongyogurt 2 years ago
About as much as it will eat in 15 minutes. Singular: larva. Plural: larvae. If you have just one it's a larva.

Thank you for your kind reply.
It woud have been curious if it was a heat pad, since the salamanders could get burnt
while resting on it.
; )

2 reasons:
1- Not all individual tigers become tame - I collected 3 (you see the third at the end) and only two behave like that. This has been my experience time and again over the years.

I have an adult TS, but he is nowhere near as fast as these. Do you know why? He has a large vivarium and I feed him enough
ThisBeAlex 3 years ago
These guys are hungry and very tame. They get fed about twice a week. See the third one at the end of the video? Not as tame and not as "fast".
