Hey Im Italian and I admit that to this day I dont know how the referee gave that free kick to us. But I think its was earlier in the game when there was a second Italian goal that was called back offside when it was really not offside... and I think the goal that scotland scored was offside.. Maybe the ref and his linesman were making up for there screw up

the referee was a farce that day, but he screwed Italy as much as us. He disallowed a perfectly good Italian goal in the 1st half. ALLOWED an offside goal for us in the 2nd and then that joke of a free kick at the end that cost Italy's 2nd goal. But its wrong to say he screwed Scotland. If all the decisions had been correct the score would have been 2-0 to Italy with both goals coming in the first half.

Hey Im Italian and I admit that to this day I dont know how the referee gave that free kick to us. But I think its was earlier in the game when there was a second Italian goal that was called back offside when it was really not offside... and I think the goal that scotland scored was offside.. Maybe the ref and his linesman were making up for there screw up

the referee was a farce that day, but he screwed Italy as much as us. He disallowed a perfectly good Italian goal in the 1st half. ALLOWED an offside goal for us in the 2nd and then that joke of a free kick at the end that cost Italy's 2nd goal. But its wrong to say he screwed Scotland. If all the decisions had been correct the score would have been 2-0 to Italy with both goals coming in the first half.

Also, I'd like to point out that we can't really blame the Italians for this. If we'd been given a dodgy free kick to secure qualification to a major tournament, we wouldn't be complaining. It wasn't a dive, it was a terrible call from the referee, and a hugely suspect silence from the linesman. If we need to hate someone, hate the referee.

@jamescfc1 You are mistaken, if you had drawn this game 1-1 you would have been level of points with France, but this was your last game of the qualification tournament. France still had one more game to play, and they drew it, finishing 2 points ahead in the end.
It was a very poor decision (personally I think the linesman and ref misunderstood each other) but ultimately it didn't cost you anything.
