The world has too many surfers already, surf breaks are bloody overcrowded as it is, can you imagine the impact if even a small portion of the ~1 billion Chinese take up surfing??

If there were more surfers, mankind might actually have a chance of survival coz more people wouldn't give a shit about materialistic nonsense and they certainly would not join up the police and army and take part in fascist practices. They'd just hang 10 and chill the fuck out. Need more surfers, just less "industry brands". The brands can go fuck themselves, using something as noble and pure as surfing to sell their overpriced junk. I know what you're saying though :)

@alexorrison Maybe not so much danger from the water quality. But possibly.. tidal bores tend to be in very shallow rivers, so there may be only a foot or so of water under the front of the wave. If you fall, you get hit by the wave. The wave is backed by a pretty much unending and very extreme current heading inland as well as the wave marking the beginning of a very rapid rise in the tide. This river is several kilometres wide...It can easily kill.

@GrahamTVdotNet Whilst in any normal sense, I back up Stu's claim, there is another sense in which it is not true. About 800 years ago, convicted criminals were given a board of sorts and made to stand in the path of the wave...surf or die kinda thing

Hi yes I have a number of photos.You can also research "The Jaws of The Dragon"the film I made for National Geographic in 1988.The guys who surfed it recently contacted me before they went....its g"ood to see someone doing it 22 years after I did.You can see me on youtube..Stuart Matthews surfs the Severn Bore 1988",I rode the Severn in the October on the same board.I started riding bores in 1964..regards Stuart.

what software or setting do u guys use to export video so it looks like this on youtube,,,the quality is amazing.. I use final cut n export with the quicktime, coversion, and compressor....but none of them gimme this quality unless im doing something wrong..i shoot in HD,,anyhow if u guys can help me that be nice thank you!

No. They had to get special permission to surf this tidal bore, and were only allowed to surf between bridges 6 and 9. I have no idea how far that might be, but it certainly wasn't 30km. If you want info on depth of water or anything else, you could hardly do better than asking Poggle. I can verify that he pioneered this wave,and his attempts are on a video I have at home.
