  • Cool Video... Thanks

  • Brake Cleaner cleans parts well, but if you use a Chlorinated Brake cleaner on metal prior to welding, you can create Phosgene gas. Deadly. One good breath can put you in hospital for weeks or kill you.

  • i noticed he gets slap happy and very noisy dropping panels& sheet steel all round the place unneccisarily. not mature workmanship..

  • @chevyvictor Sustained concentration and attention to detail is actually pretty exhausting, regardless of whether you work in an auto body repair shop or in an accounting office.

  • ---Nice job on the video.

---A tip to those who are watching this as a guide, I think it important to mention that the brake cleaner, as well as any cleaner used prior to welding, needs to be non-chlorinated... unless you want to experience irreversible lung tissue damage.

---Look up WWII Poison Gas (April 22, 1915), PVC, bi-products of Meth labs... yes, it will kill you, so please, make sure the brake clean you use has no chlorine whatsoever; Including, but not limited to chlorofluorocarbons

  • this guy rules.

  • I agree with saving those cutofff wheels. Just use them on a smaller grinder.

  • hey, if you guys are doing any mustangs and want a donation of parts for a little advertising, let us know.

    LAUREL MOUNTAIN MUSTANG

  • Id love to have an american car from the 50's, 60's or 70's they had such soul and beauty even if not the best handling. Everything since that time has been a plastic overweight usually automatic heap of junk. America built the best cars once as they were like living objects which flourished with chrome, fins and wonderful lines. Now everyone drives automatic SUV's and germany builds te best cars. America had it all but threw it away. Such a shame.

  • that was crap

  • what is the round blade you use to cut the metal called the whole kit and how much is it ?

  • wheres the rest of the video?

  • The ol Rustang.

  • This is all silly talk... buy steel sheet from ANYWHERE, degrease it well, clean it well, wash it with phosphoric acid, weld it, paint it with KBS RustSeal or POR-15... and never worry again. Done... simple... easy.

  • Great video, would really like to see more!! any on removing the whole rear quarter panel? cheers

  • nothings better than an old american mechanic, they do their work just perfect

  • Hey I really liked your video. How much do you charge for labor?

  • Will rust converter work?

  • @sluggo06

Eh, only if you have an old beater that you need to last for a couple more years. Converters are great for jobs that will last 2-4 years. However, they are not a permanent solution.

  • Nice informative video, your great at explaining stuff. Nice.

  • this guy is great, he is so clear and to the point when he explains his methods. I am sure he can teach a monkey how to do this. great!! editing too. kudos greg!!!!

  • that earns a smoke!

  • Why on earth don't you use a spot welder? Quicker, easier, no panel distortion and no linishing off the weld bead afterwards. Gives a factory look too.

  • This would be my dream job...Looking for an apprentice?

  • wheres the muscle car????

  • The ol Rustang. I have a 71 Chevelle So Cal car. Some surface rust but no serious cancer. It needs a full patch on one side as a result of being hit. The other side needs a lower rear patch where the water sprays back in the lip. Bout the size of a quarter. Can you recommend any panels and should it be tig or mig welded?

  • i think it would be much easier to build up new car than replacing 80% of old rusty parts with new ones...

  • the fumes brake cleaner give off when welding are deadly. so it works for cleaning metal but you need to wash it off afterwords

  • @oldsmobilcherrybomb Yep and no cure, destroys the liver and renal system

  • @oldsmobilcherrybomb No need for washing if you remember use your Marlboro respirator LOL

  • @HarleyPotter

i don't know. lol. i want to be around a while to work on trucks and stuff so i'll use a respirator and try not to do to many dumb things.

  • is WD-40 ok to spray on bare metal?

  • @pooacc WD-40 is a great product if used properly but it is one of the worst things to apply to metal that you are going to paint.. do not spray WD-40 on bare metal that you will be painting.

  • @pooacc yes it works in wonderess ways but WD 40 is only for specific ways

  • if i restore a car does that mean I would have a salvaged title

  • no...... in this state it doesnt.I dont know where you live but call your local dmv and they could tell you.

  • That fucking sheet metal monkey is real smart....smoking a cigarette around the gas tank. Nice job.

  • Considering it's a TIG welder, the inert gas he's using it probably Argon gas, which is also used to put out fires in server rooms.

Not bloody likely it will ever catch fire. XD

  • Still can cause a huge fire....Argon won't stop a TIG from catching gas fumes on fire. What planet are you from?

  • Well, Meccaturbo beat me to it, there's no gas tank on the car, and the gas used by the welder cannot blow up .. so nothing to go boom.

Have I missed something? What other gas tanks are you talking about ?

  • I didn't realize there was no tank in the car, my mistake....sorry about that. I would have been very worried had there been a tank in the car, with the cig burning in his mouth.

  • Ah, fair enough. shit happens, don't worry about it.

At least it seems the guy here isn't stupid at all. :)

  • I agree. i admre anyone who does detailed sheetmetal work like this....it takes a lot of talent and skill, and he's good at it.

  • You should look up the "A Car is Reborn" then, where they restore an old Jaguar E-type.

It's pretty long since it was originally aired in 10 episodes on Discovery Channel (about 25 minutes each), so I recommend finding a torrent and download it. Though I think it's on Youtube as well.

Offcourse it's not all platework, but still fascinating stuff.

  • Thats a MIG not a TIG

  • @GODZILLAMANASS

    I think you are right.

Still uses an inert gas though, so the point is still true. :)

  • @meccaturbo no gas tank bro

  • great video with lots of info.-I have a 65 mustang coupe that's still a work in progress. How do I remove the rain cowl to remove debris when the old paint was stripped?

  • There's always surface rust inside those panels, what I mostly do, is weld the back first, and then zinkspray everything inside, then weld the front panel and close it. I do most of the work oldschool way, like they do in Bangladesh haha, but it's the best. Most bodyshops jobs, start rusting again in a few years.

  • wheres the cheapest place to bu patch panels

  • cheapest might not be your best option try "american designer" brand sheet metal.

  • @KFCHambone more importantly it depends on car.

  • haha my name is Greg too and I have a '67!

  • Nice vids!

Are there certain spots on different cars one should check for areas of rust?

Also, could you give us a video on the basic tools a do it yourself amateur should buy to do some of the basic prep work? Maybe one on what I can do myself, and what I should look to have a professional do as well?

    Keep them coming!
