@robm425 so with a cb radio u can transmit right? but who uses them truckies? taxis? everything is digital theses day. i just want to talk to some random people what would u recomend?
@tetramoo Take it up with your Government! Unfortunately for the USA scanners are getting more and more useless each year as the interesting radio traffic is going to encrypted radio communication which can't be listened to. Which is what you guys have over there
@dhide14 I do actually that is part of the reason I do have scanners, It helps to know when my parties are going to be busted or when a neighbor calls with a noise complaint.
robm425 i have a question i want a scanner that i can hear whennn the police is coming round mee what scanner should i use the pro 96 is best do u think?
@ninjakid6 you could buy a yaesu vx2r a good little two way amateur radio and lock the transmission button from the menu turning it into a scanner it will not cover trunk tracking or digital stuff only plain old analogue which is still interesting depending on your likes , about the smallest radio about puxing do a very cheep vx2r which is purely UHF in frequency available very cheap from fleabay hope this helps
@digitalblue9000 What illegal about this? In the USA its perfectly legal just to passively listen to police, fire, and EMS, transmissions from your home. Now if this was in my car it would be more of a state law question
@dudeproductions100 It wouldn't be a scanner if it would be a transmitter....... Secondly as far as being illegal when commiting the crime it varies per state and most states require the crime to be a felony
@joeyalbergo yeah I couldn't agree more. but you said scanning is a hobby and takes skill and money....and then you said your probably lacking all 3.....Let me give you a piece of advice......don't talk shit if you can not count.... Its fucking simple i can count to 10 in like 6 different languages and you cant fucking do it in English.
Thank you.when I was a kid I lived next to the mass pike and I took my little walkie talkie and at times I would put tin foil on the antenna and I would clime a tree just so I could talk to CBers.I dont know if the tin foil worked but it was fun.thanks again
I have the PRO-164 and it has CB ch's but I never hear anything on it,any idea why? I would like to know what outside antena are you using? I have a porch in a housing complex and not sure what I could use.Have you ever tryed a big ass, long antena on your hand held? I know it would not be good to walk around with but I was curious.
@MrScrappydue Well you might not be able to recieve CB signals because nobody is transmitting. CB frequencies you need big antenna if you want good range. generally its recommended you be close to an interstate as that is the only roads were CB's are used. listen to ch19 as that is the most active.
My outdoor antenna is 'Radio Shack Outdoor VHF-Hi/UHF Scanner Antenna' Model: 20-176
Thanks for the advice. I have a BC72xlt which I like because of the size. The BC246T has the same body and the system in the area I'm going to is analogue so it should do. Its a very good looking scanner.
Depends on if your local police or what ever you want to scan is using digital or analog communications. Digital scanners are high $400 to buy and analog are as low as $90.
last night i was at my cousins house and he has a police scanner bearcat and i listen to it for like two hours someone callled the police about people screaming because of a haunted house it was a prank they said
what are you going to do with your scanner when they go to encrypted digital p25 system. that's what our police are going to man are we going to be fucked
There is no such thing as a POLICE SCANNER you have a wide band receiver that can scan the frequencies that the police are on if it scans 27mhz its not a CB SCANNER just a scanner
You could call it that but when they come pre preprogramed from the factory with all the police frequencies of some areas I would call it a police scanner
i have the pro 96 and i have bought software for programming, but for the life of me, I cant figure out how to get it to scan the different police/fire. Is there a sequence of buttons i have to push?
Legal pretty much if you are just listening from your house and not using to spy on neighbors, or commit criminal activity. Also some states have laws against you using them in cars
we have 3 of them very useful this could be a toy but we use it for bznes im from san jose c.a and if your from around here you know what im talking about
Not a wannabee cop or a rental cop at all...Its just fun to listen to the police and hear whats going on. When you hear your first car chase or drug bust it is well worth it!!! Also if you looked at my other videos you see I use it as a counter measure from getting pulled over. Its nice to know if there is an APB out on my vehicle
Never read anything about that being not allowed but never researched it. If the ex-con was not going to listen to scanners to further break the law I am sure it would be fine for them to listen.
Well seeing as this guy is an ex-con and is commiting illegal acts again his brain power is not high enough to realize the benefits. Honestly I occassionally hear stake-outs of drug houses but its rare. Most of the special squads at most places use unscannable frequencies(encrypted) or maintain radio silence on some instances
I have a uniden bc350a my husband got me for christmas last year...it's supposed to go in my car but he still has to take care of doing that! Listening to the scanner is more exciting than watching any tv...it's news as it happens...

So you definitely know your scanners and I've been doing plenty of research but can't for the life of me tell the difference between the radioshack one and the uniden BCD 396T.
I'm trying to get my car like what alex roy has his! lol Any advice is greatly appreciated
I perfer the Uniden 396t much easier to program, only reason I went with the radio shack is a i got an amazing deal which I couldn't pass up. But before you go with a scanner add a CB radio. Its much better investment for interstate driving than a scanner
yeah just plain on analog will cover that but you are limiting what you can listen to with just an analog scanner...at least try and buy a analog trunk scanner...It will give you more versitility...I sent you a message with the frequencies in your area
Scanning is tons of fun! For scanning the analog signals I actually use ham radios because they have few frequency gaps (compared to scanners) and they have the ctcss/dcs encode/decode which a lot of scanners do not have.
I listen to police radio transmissions for entertainment value. Yes radio scanners work all over the world as long as ou have a list of the radio frequencies used in the area
Usually yes most basic ones will pick up Air traffic frequencies. But I have had alot of trouble listening to air traffic control even with my outdoor scanner antenna but then again I never really tried
Entertainment value. I orginially got the 210xl from my father after he volunteer firefighter. So as tell went on I wante to listen to more and more channels so i needed a better scanner. Currently studying for my HAM licence
UNIDEN is the best!!!!

In the USA they are legal everywhere in your own household...Some states it is illegal to listen to police transmissions in the car.
In Germany police scanners are legal to own BUT:
-Illegal to posess a non-CE-approved radio device except amateur radios
-Illegal to listen any transmission which is not "directed to the public" (broadcast signals and amatuer radio are for the public)
-Illegal to monitor cordless phone transmissions

Scanning is tons of fun! For scanning the analog signals I actually use ham radios because they have few frequency gaps (compared to scanners) and they have the ctcss/dcs encode/decode which a lot of scanners do not have.

I listen to police radio transmissions for entertainment value. Yes radio scanners work all over the world as long as ou have a list of the radio frequencies used in the area

a digital scanner will cost U 400 to 700 bucks , Price range

Except when Radio Shack is having a half off special on their scanners and you got a friend with an employee discount

Usually yes most basic ones will pick up Air traffic frequencies. But I have had alot of trouble listening to air traffic control even with my outdoor scanner antenna but then again I never really tried
