What a puny message. People have had these impulses as long as they were human. The only way you put your soul in peril is by believing (as this movie would have you) that the criminals like Anton are in real life as powerful as they make him seem here. The truly powerful criminals are those who control our lives at a distance and kill millions at a time. The fear here is simply filmatic, and believing that is the true peril.

Chigurh uses a captive bolt pistol, which is also known as a cattle gun. The tank itself is pressurized air. Releasing the air valve powers the bolt when triggered and it retracts automatically. Chigurh probably uses it to avoid leaving any evidence with his victims like powder burns or a bullet. Used for making cows unconscious and then slit their throats, let them pump out the blood. Good thing for the subtitles since I can barely hear this movie. I have the computer volume on high and the You Tube volume on high. Some of these movies need to be uploaded with the volume higher. I am not hard of hearing and not that old. Just not worth watching with the sound so low I can barely hear it.
