oh god, the checking up on things that grow- love it!
hey adam, if you have ostrich fern growing in your area be sure to look for mayapples. i just ate a few today. they're the sweetest, mango apricot-like wild fruit i had. the season is winding down, but i just want to share that with you.
Those look very much like the grape varieties we have growing in our backyard (we bought them from a local organic farm years ago)... They grow prolifically with absolutely no help from us (in fact, they need to be cut back a bit this fall, since they're literally taking over the yard!), have a flavor that sounds a lot like you describe, and are producing a wonderful crop this year! I love plants that grow lots of food without needing lots (or any) care. :-)
I'm going foraging for grapes today : D

Speaking of alcohol, we found plenty of hops too! I wonder if any of my brewing friends would be interested.

Nice - my family picked cherries and blackberries on a walk today. We brought a handful of each to our neighbor.

That's wonderful to hear. Sharing the bounty is a great way of educating people on a different way of living!

These plants that take little work are exactly what we'll need more and more in the future. Nice to hear they're doing so well.
