  • Yea most definitely seems like under-sized rotors, did you ever switch them out? thinking about doing this swap along with the 4x4 fronts on my '78 very soon as the inadequate braking power kind of scares me.

  • @de0ndre haha thats what made me do my brakes, I have to much power not to be able to stop. I fabbed the braket so the caliper now covers the whole rotor

  • dude the braking surface is to small...u got the wrong rotor for that z...the braking pad should be touch the full rotor not just half of it

  • You dont have the right rotors, those are my brackets that i machine as a kit

  • That is my kit,you have to turn the Rotors to 11.225 diameter.Your running the wrong rotors!get in touch with me and i will explain it all to you:)

  • That is my kit,you have to turn the Rotors to 11.225 diameter.

  • your only using half of the brakign surface should of just stuck with drums phil

  • just look at the disc from the top, through to the caliper to see if all of the pad is contacting the rotor. from what i see the rotor is to small.

  • so how is your parking brake now? cause mine grabbed when i tried to turn it by hand but not on a hill ...I did the conversion similair but with different parts mine has full contact with the rotor that doesnt look right I also adapted my ebrake cable but it doesnt have enough pull there was a member on hbz that changed the bottom of the ebrake handle to give it more throw

  • So, Maxima caliper and mounting bracket with 280zx disks? and a custom-ish slide stick (parking brake lol) mount right?

  • a little bit of every thing! lol

  • Yea, I just want to know, I'll check out everything on HBZ to figure it out, it will be one of my first mods because I don't like drum brakes, to much trouble to work on and all. Its so simple to replace the pads on disks. It takes like 10 minutes per wheel.

  • 1. That is a very informative video. Thanks heaps. I am about to do a very similar conversion on my 240z.

    2. You were absolutely right. It is an emergency brake. The proof is the fact it is illegal in most places to run a hydraulic emergency brake. This is because if your hydraulic system fails you still can use the emergency brake if it is run by cable. I am not saying it is very effective but it is there for emergencies as well as parking.

  • for your information, that is not an emergency brake, that is a parking brake, in no way was that brake designed to be used in an emargency, it is used to keep the vehicle from rolling on slanted surfaces, i wish people would stop thinkin of it as an emergency brake

  • true.

  • @turbo280z actually your both wrong its called a hand brake :).

  • @rcs40x what if your hydrolic (sp?) system fails. I think that calls for an emergency haha since the brake is controlled by a wire instead of fluid.

  • on my 83 zx it looks pretty much the same bud. you should cool with that

  • Phil, as long as the calipers' piston resides within the rotors outer edge, you'll be ok.

Looks like you have some backlash...check your UJoints.

    Dude, where's the beer?

  • my turn! lol! I had to take my 280 off the road because it would not pass smog inspection, so now i am building a 74 260! with a new engine, i will post some vids of it soon

  • looks about the same as my rear 240sx discs

  • bitch-n set up.....disc all the way around!!

  • Cool man - great job. Your vids are awesome!

  • i used a 240sx caliper and disk worked fine and u could use the maxima braket with the 240sx caliper

  • I think with the RWD nissans they don't want full pad to disc contact because the diff would slow the car down as well as the breaks but I don't know for sure I'm focussing alot more on how the Attessa system works on the R32GTR and why the R35GTR doesn't hit walls while taking corners :). I'll check it out for you to see whats going on with them breaks.

  • DAMN Phil car looks awesome!!!!

question: Are those wheels Watanabe Rims? they look like Watanabe.

  • Rota RB R wheels

  • Any way you could post a parts list?

  • Aftermarket bracket, 280zx rotors, Nissan maxima caliper 1984 ish? I think 280zx calpiers will give better disk coverage?

  • A clever way of getting around having to use a 240Z e-brake cable. Good job!

  • Good luck with that!
