  • ssd=bad price

  • @rev148 poor?

  • ssd=bad price

  • i got a 510 :D

  • I use ssd caching and get best of both worlds

  • Thank You Linus for clearing up the hard drive cost conspiracy i was wondering why a 1TB hard drive is around 110USD compared to around 70USD it used to be around last summer Thank You.

  • @maybedos flood in thiland

  • Compare SSD vs HDD is night and day

  • this is not a real copy of windows

  • @badk9999 how do you know?

  • SSD's are only fragile because they are expensive. he he

  • I want that type of "case" but i don't knew from where to buy it!??!

  • @mrcrooss1 buy the Cooler Master Test Bench

  • @mrcrooss1 PM me I will tell you

  • Comment removed

  • I may go all intel for once & hope its a go move...

  • Lol answer me

  • You can do that with a thinkpad, TPShocks ftw.

  • I rather not pay more for something thats more faster yet has smaller amount of space

  • @TheAwwWtf then you clearly don't need a good PC.

  • @Purepromedia I do need a good PC im a video editor . its just I dont care for faster speeds I rather More space

  • @TheAwwWtf Then you clearly haven't used SSD's. Run 120GB-240GB for OS and cache disk, store your high def files on that, render the videos out to the 1TB-3TB or even a NAS array. Or best of yet, build a raid-5 array with a bunch of 3TB drives. If you're actually a legit video editor then you would've learned what raid arrays as well as SSD's will benefit you. Learn to use current technology to its full potential. Peace.

  • @Purepromedia Im 14 years old dude -_- , Im learning , and right now dont have much money to be Buying SSD's and unless I win the lottery I wont be getting any

  • @Purepromedia PWNED!

  • One of your best reviews, thanks Linus!

  • Hey I have a question. I have a toshiba satellite a305-s6909 laptop n I was wondering if I can install ssd in it?

  • Brought to you by Intel :/

  • I WANT TO BUILD A COMPUTER SO BAD, but i don't know enough!!!! Sadly money isn't the problem either lol i'm just 2 cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "How does that translate into real world performance? It does!"

LOL It does! It does! And you can't argue with his reasoning, it does!

  • The difference between seeing your desktop and waiting for stuff to load and seeing your desktop being able to use it...I thought that was the difference between windows and GNU/Linux? ;-)

  • Why is the sound always worse on the NCIX Tech tips videos than the Linus ones?

  • is this ad sponsored by intel..?

  • Why would anyone bother to watch this poor quality video on 1080p? watching it in 240p and 1080p for this video is damn same (-.-)

  • That's the best intro, keep it.

  • PLEASE LINUS, REMOVE THAT INTRO!

  • Linus b smart.

  • Reliability my ass...SSDs might have no moving parts to fail but it does have firmware and other issues that make up for that.

  • Somebody needs to make a party hard gif of Linus shaking around the laptop.

  • @ncixcom Your videos worked. I never would have (or had till the point) known what NCIX was, nor bought from them. But I shopped my new build around and ended up buying components from NCIX! Thanks for the videos.

  • do you get paid for this? i like your job

  • I have been wanting to know about Intel's current position on nand flash dimensions on their sata6 ssd's. I am pleased to know that they are still using the 38nm in the 510 series. I would have liked to know more about their controller though. I have a Zalman S series 128Gb with a jmf-616 controller and Intel 38nm nand flash. I bought it for the reliability. All those other ssd's with 22nm nand are so unreliable from all of the people who I have read that reviewed their personal disappointment.

  • "This copy of Windows is not Genuine" -- anyone see that? tsk, tsk!

  • @SUKItm he explained that in a older vid

  • My mates old HP laptop went flying off the roof of his car at 60km/h (40m/h) a few years back, and other then a busted optical drive and a bit of cosmetic 'wear' it still marches on, original HDD and all!

  • That instant program execution has convinced me.

  • Umm, this video learned me absolutely nothing. I didn't see the point of it other than to try selling Intel overpriced SSDs.

  • Mr. Linus, where did you get those blue SATA cables?! I want some ^.^

  • XD Remembering shaking my laptop in a similar way in Math class and my teacher saying I shouldn't, had a SSD in my laptop.

  • Tip: When one Compresses the drive Win7 works faster! and gains storage.

  • @TheShockmister on some hard drives, like mine but the performance difference for me is not that much when it was not compressed.

Just check how fast your ssd is with or without compression before you commit to one

As for that another Tip: Turn off Hibernation Mode, You don't need sleep mode with a SSD and turning Hibernation off gives you more storage, because it doesn't have to store hibernation files on your SSD.

  • intel may be the most "reliable" but at the price point I would go for ocz at any moment.. just not worth the reliability..

  • felt like I was watching a 2007 video.. o_0

  • 3:28 ".. and how does that translate into real world performance? ... It does!..." lol

  • NCIX know eveything about PCs but don't know shit about putting a TV on the wall straight!! Fuck your SSD Linus, buy a fuckin' spirit level :)

  • The color/lighting in this video is very poor.

  • @DonaldScottIV ohhh, and i was messing with the settings of my TV i thought it was me.

  • @DonaldScottIV sound too.

  • @DonaldScottIV Blame h.264 encoding.

  • @PotadoTomado Wrong. Blame the video editor:

    pastZebinDOTcom/hD6qKvmt

(remove Z, replace DOT with .)

  • I feel like Linus has to do all these videos about how great SSD's are so NCIX would sell more of them...seriously, you havent done any benchmarks for along time....

  • @ 0:09, tut tut tut linus, no humping notebook, bad boy

  • my friends studio xps has an ssd. we tested it against my 2x300gb velociraptors in raid 0 and mine tested barely faster. his was a 60gb. and at the time we bought them my two hard drives didnt cost that much more.... and now my drives are probably cheaper.

  • @trent1234108 Standard drives are actually over 150% more expensive atm because of floodings in Thailand.

  • @Rattlepiece well before that lol

  • If that's the case then crucial should be as reliable as intel right? Since it doesn't use the latest engineering technology

  • So what I'm getting from this is if I pop one of these baby's in my old 386 I will be able to rule the world with it?

  • I have a laptop with a HD and I toss it around all the time and just shook it like him and it still runs like a boss.

  • @NOLIMIT69NOLIMIT2000 trolololo

  • @NOLIMIT69NOLIMIT2000 Then it's decently built. Also, it's more about dropping the notebook rather than shaking because a HDD has several moving parts inside of it. So, if it receives too much shock, a part could easily become loose or break rendering the entire HDD useless. However, with an SSD, you have 0 moving parts and no platter. Thus, dropping doesn't become an issue and speed is also increased tremendously.

  • @AltesseQQ Yea as soon as I can get one I wanna give it a run. I never drop my laptop but I'm not careful with it.

  • can you talk about other manufactures like Crucial, Samsung, and OCZ SSDs? They are far better in terms of performance and also cheaper.

  • I do that with my Laptop all the time...shit

  • Linus i know your big on SSD's. I recently ordered one, i watched your video on cameramans SSD install and you said there would be a follow up vid with what to do after the initial install on how to access your files on the HDD and get them to the SSD. I was hoping you could help me out.

  • i got a intel ssd for the holidays! its amazing!

  • Why old intro?????

  • Wait im not supposed to shake my laptop like that? Ive done that for years with no issue yet on my HDD luckily

  • Macs FTW!!!

  • @Zainiak i like how your looking to be trolled....

  • w.w.w.|ptroa|co|il

  • can i use an OSZ SSD with the Z68 caching technology?

  • @EchoNatek you can use any brand of SSD

  • slc flash is better than nlc flash as to how many times it can be written to. Is it more expensive for slc flash?

  • Why do I feel like Billy Mays is selling me something?

  • @callsignfreak HAHA

  • Dont bother with intro. We are here to look for tech tip.

  • When it comes to shopping I think this is the first time I'm happy about being in canada

  • ...again, not gonna fully repeat myself, but SSDS dont last crap longer than HDDS.. google it

  • SSD's are just way too expensive :(

  • wat is the most reliable and speedest ssd manufacturor???

  • @nate6859 For reliability I think many people would say the Crucial M4

  • I've got the same laptop :D

  • How many times have you guys done a Tech Tips on SSDs? Think of something new already.

  • @NCIXcom Why do I have a feeling someone is going to strap an SSD to their HDD then say it doesn't work. 6:03 xD

  • NCIX Tech Tips need a new intro!

  • Can you do a adverage compairison btween sata 2 ssd's and sata 3 ssd's because i know some ssd's are faster then others but for the adverage guy who wants a ssd and dosent care if its the fastest what shoudl they go with

  • @BassPounderX why not just look up benchmarks?

  • Comment removed

  • australia needs you ncix!!!!!

  • /watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

  • OLD INTRO!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

  • Intel and Crucial the best SSDs available

  • Old Intro <3

  • This video just about made me buy an SSD drive for my notebook computer... So, basically it would cut loading times by 70%?

  • I hate NCIX for not doing International :(

  • horrible video quality :D looks vintage

  • Linus or anyone can help me out here: What if you use this with an AMD based system and the same HDD would that be a problem at all?

  • @Soap706 SSD are compatible with any system with SATA 6 Gbit/s connections

  • @danielmw12 uhh u can have a ssd without sata 3..... ever hear of sata 2????

  • @HandicappedMind yes, but you get a lot better performance on sata 3, as the ssd otherwise is hindered by the low transfer rates on sata 2

  • @danielmw12 thanks man i know that but what i really want to know is: Would i get to use that same piggy backing technology Linus was talking about.

  • Why are you using the old intro?

  • i fink beter is OCZ ssd intel to slow and expensive

  • Hmmm.. the lighting is abit low? Still a great vid :)

  • I've thrown HDDs around before and they still work and kept their data stored. If you lose data you must be using some cheap seagate stuff.

  • It would be funny if the ssd actually broke during this vid lol! Just saying.

  • @TheEquivalentXchange i dont think he wouldve uploaded it

  • @fordfreak521 lol true

  • VERY BAD CONTRAST and jaggery video!

  • is that an asus u35-jc?

  • NCIX make international shipping

  • Nice opening.

  • I'm using an 80Gb Intel 320 series, no problems.

  • bad thing is for a ssd 960gb is $2500 when i can get a 3tb 64mb cache hard drive for $300 id only use ssd to start up my computer nothing else to small

  • @armyraw29 More like $1500.

  • Ship to Ireland? It's only across the pond...

  • NCIX make international shipping :) that would be awesome

  • lol see the windows , this copy of windows is not genuine lol

  • @affy1975 It actually is. I'd imagine since it's on a test bench then it's had some hardware changes and Linus hasn't went to the bother of re-registering it since it takes an age for no reason at all.

  • SSD's need more capacity with prices being greatly reduced. When that happens, hard drives will be gone. I personally think that many companies are holding on to the hard drive technology just to milk it for all they can get.

  • Great, 302 views, 393 Likes

  • @def4260 A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation.

  • Oh shit I've drop my laptop from 5 ft before and it didn't break WOOT WOOT ACER :p <--- Sooo bad..

  • "We are going to see it absolutely destroy.." My thirst thougt was, yes Linus is going to actually show the durability of an ssd vs hdd.

It would also be nice to se and Intel ssd in i aluminum shell vs ssd in a plastic shell?

Crazy videos gets a crazy amount of views?

  • BOOST THE MIC

  • if i tie a rope to an SSD and drag it around with my bicycle about 1 kilometer, will it still work?

  • @fjoa123 Depends. As long as its a straight road and not woods, stones, snow, rain etc, it should be just fine (except its look!).

  • @fjoa123 I would try it :P .

  • I put a 120 GB 510 in a 4 year old HP laptop (G60) with Win 7 Pro (I know the Intel is SATA III and the HP is SATA II but that's OK) and I can promise you that my old HP will be ready at the desktop and useable much faster than any top range i7 laptop on the market today without an SSD. This is by far the best upgrade you can make to any laptop to breathe new life into it.

  • did you get the intro music from a 80's porn movie Linus?

  • When SSD's are £200 for a 500GB capacity, i'll buy 2 of them. As it stands, the high capacity ones are just ridiculously priced.

  • Boom Mic please :P

  • Comment removed

  • i hate that noise youtube makes when you like a comment

  • @vowywowy nice try

  • Watercooling part 3 anyone?

  • Seriously NCIX, make international shipping already !!!!

  • @RKTGX95 they have it in the US but not overseas or other contrys but f u want parts you should eb looking somewhere else not so far away

  • nice k90 your using there

  • i have been waiting for liquid cooling part2 for a year

  • @hikmaet it's already out though more fool you for waiting lol

  • @hikmaet it's out already

  • I really only watch these vids for Linus

  • So which ssd is best for performance? corsair force gt, ocz max iops or do u recommend something els?

  • Hmmm... hiding a cheat sheet behind the SSD you're holding makes it quite obvious :P

  • @KAPTOHxProductionsRU Be grateful, if you want a pc that badly get a job

  • Linus could you make an SSD guide ?

like the tech types, what things to avoid and what things to look for.

  • 3:49 how is this even possible.... and i have an corsair force 3 ssd....

  • Damn Linus, you're uploading videos from a whole year ago? It's 2012 man!

  • Samsung 830 Series FTW.

  • who noticed after he shock it the sxreen was broken

  • @UWANTAMANGO no one?

  • Ofcourse they are RMA'd less, they are bought less so the return rate will be lower.

  • @Merky2k Rate, not number

  • @Merky2k i doubt it be based on quantity.

  • kingston no longer ur sponsor??
