  • I really enjoy watching your videos.

How much is the seagull? Is it a good guitar for playing jazz (I'm an aspiring musician, don't know much)? Because I have a cheap beginners guitar (around $100) and sometimes I wonder whether I suck or if it's the quality of my guitar. I'll admit though, I don't practice much.. can you really hear or feel the difference in quality?

How long have you been playing?

  • Too many questions at once. :-)

    1. don't know the current seagull prices. this one is the Folk Model (now under some new name) See their site

    2. Play whatever style on whatever you want. let no one peg you into what guitar for what style

    3. "cheap" guitars, because of CNC machines are very "playable" nowadays. if you feel you "suck" it 's all on you and your "practice" time. If you can't drive a Yugo you can't drive a Benz

    4. if sound matters always go solid wood (top at least)

  • How long have you been playing? :]

  • Since I was 14; so that's nearly 33 years. I have many years between (periods) of not playing much at all. I regret that a bit as I could have accomplished a great deal more by this time. sorry you didn't see the answer to this question the first time. I guess I can't reply to my reply. I ran out of space for all your questions. I do like answering any music / guitar related questions. please feel free to ask many more. If I can be of any help I'd like that. I will be doing more vids too

  • Cool. Did you enjoy listening/playing jazz in your teenage years or did you prefer another genre?

Lately I've been listening to Coltrane and Django Reinhardt (I love the gypsy/Sinti style, glad I found Django). I realized I never really enjoyed jazz until just recently, right after my teenage years (almost, not there yet). Was you're experience the same?

  • Yes I enjoy jazz and my study was fretboard harmony and fingerstyle jazz. As a teenager it was the whole Led Zep / Jimmy Page thing that turned me on to guitar. I moved fast to jazz guitar after that, but I like all types of guitar playing. Folk, rock, jazz etc it's all good. Here are some "jazz" guitar guys for you. But first I must state hands down Bill Evans is my favorite Jazz player (not a guitarist). Pat Metheny, Jim Hall, John Scofield, Earl Klugh (great fingerstyle). out of space...

  • Thanks man, I was just about to ask if you would recommend some "jazz" players/artists. Like I mentioned, I'm a newbie to jazz. I like blues too, like john lee hooker and skip james (just found them not too long ago).

I look forward to seeing more uploads. Expect more questions. :]

  • Taking your total (up to this point) expressed interest I strongly recommend you buy the following album first >> Shades of Blue by Al Petteway. You will be pleased on multiple levels. Do get it...

  • Will do. Thanks.

  • check out Nefertari by Bensusan (as a bensusan example). I don't know what bus got him to this planet, but I'm glad he decided to stay. Java Man by Hedges puts me in a semi-coma too; I don't know why. Ragamuffin does too even more (you can see that here on youtube).

    Michael Hedges - Ragamuffin

Warning! It may change how you look at guitar.

Hedges took a bus off the planet too fast.

check "Tommy Emmanuel - Angelina" here too. I real fav of mine. he is likely a best all round player.

  • Michael Hedges reminded me of Andy McKee. Andy's video was under the "related videos." It went viral some months ago.

I really liked Petteway's "Slinky Soozie." It had a really good vibe to it. Also, "The Darkest Hour" and "Alfonso Brown.." were great. Petteway was great.

I liked "Nefertiti" but it seems like to really appreciate that style you need to either play or watch an ordinary "real" person play those tunes rather than someone with a public reputation. That's why I enjoy your vids.

  • I ran out of space. I was ganna ask if you enjoy bossa nova (I think it's a sub-genre of jazz from Brazil)? Since I understand Spanish, I can sort of make out what they're saying in Portuguese. They're mostly love songs.

Antonio Carlos Jobin and Elis Regina's "agua de marco" is a fun tune.

So is Jaoa Gilberto's "Falsa Baiana."

I'm ganna have to find more Bossa Nova artists.

  • bossa no not much at all, I don't enjoy it, but appreciate the gene. Rag style guitar in most cases is my least favorite. Those two

rags on that petteway ablum are my least favorite. I will be doing E Funk from that album shortly, but my next video is "two bridges" by Jacques Stotzem. I've been playing it so long it morphed a bit - intentional and unintentional. It is the most open sounding standard tuning songs I've heard. Sounds more like an alt tuned song.

  • I like mostly all your vids but I realized I think the reason is because you're an average joe. My favorites are "if i only had...", "stompin' at the savoy", "blues for jd", "when sunny gets blue", and this one.

I'm looking forward to watching you're upcoming uploads.

  • you inspire me to Keep Practicing! Thanx man!

  • Very nice... I have that same guitar, what pickup have you got there?

  • Baggs M1. The plug that replaces the neck strap barely makes it out to tread the nut. And... I slightly chipped the laminate doing the job too. When I pick up a few more Seagulls, this will be my "junker" I play most of the time.

  • I like the way the bass line starts out fractured and builds to a constant.

  • First thing, I want to say I didn't throw the dime at your guitar. :) Next I want say I love this one with the walking bass. Really cool.
