I can't even see the form of someone hanging. It looked like a bird when I first saw it and even when I tried to really picture it as the silhouette of a munchkin hanging, it still appeared as a bird simply stretching its wings. Plus, the actors are skipping in that direction and I'm pretty sure they would've known if someone had committed suicide right before them. Yet they didn't react at all? I don't think the term 'on with the show' applies to someone hanging himself in the background.

But the truth remains, it's for you to decide, not me, I have already seen it with my own 2 eyes and like I said, it was nothing like the way it was shown in the video you provided. Yeah, i decided to look more into it and i found the VHS version which is VERY different from this version (presumably the DVD version?) and there is a massive difference. in the VHS version, it really does look like someone is hanging from the tree in the background. Maybe they changed it with graphics or something when the DVD came out? But then there's still the question of why the actors didn't react.

First off, this video is not with the way the guy was hung. The thing I saw with my own 2 eyes was a person climbing a latter in the background. He got to the top and shoved the latter over and you could see him swinging all over the place. And yes, I am 41 and did see it repeatedly when I was a child. As I said before, they covered it up and that's just the way it is. My mother saw a broadcast where they admitted it was real. Believe what you want to, because it really happened.

@edleiser There would have been no way you could have clearly made out a munchkin, swinging legs and a ladder with the level of picture quality of VHS tapes and even television of the 70s. The technology of the time simply could not have given the level of resolution to produce the images you claim you saw based on the distance from the camera. Just accept it. I can believe you saw a dark moving image but it turned out to be a bird when the film was restored.

He said he saw a Munchkin climbing a ladder, pushing it over, and then proceeding to hang. I, as well, have seen this happen. There's no technology used in ladders, ropes, or even scenery. Hi everyone :) i am at university studying graphic design and i have chosen to do a brief on the wizard of oz. I am going to be producing typographical posters to bring back this classic film and give it life once again so that people want to watch the film. You can say what you want, and they can change anything to cover it up. But when I was a child, me and my brother saw a different scene than what is being shown in this video above. There was a deer with antlers in the background not a bird and you could clearly see a form of a guy swinging crazily in the background that has now been removed. I saw it with my own eyes, that bird was never there back in 1970's, I'm sure this is a cover up. Sorry, saw it for myself, this is not the video!

For two reasons if he fought in world war 2 in the 40s he would have been a boy in the late 20s to early 30s assuming he was a young man in his 20s during world war 2. The movie was filmed in 1939 he was not a little boy at that time. And reason two there wasn't any home version of the movie until 1980.

It wasn't a munchkin that hanged themself, it was just a stagehand, and they remastered it and turned it into a bird being in that area and cut out the hanging figure. In the very original VHS release, it is a hanging figure, very clearly. It could not be more clear what it is. And if you say it's not, then what is it? What just "magically floats" there? Nothing. Because it is an unfortunate suicide accidentally caught on video.

Nope having this movie on vhs from the 80s this scene has been altered and no longer shows a person being hanged. That is proof enough that they altered the scene.

For two reasons if he fought in world war 2 in the 40s he would have been a boy in the late 20s to early 30s assuming he was a young man in his 20s during world war 2. The movie was filmed in 1939 he was not a little boy at that time. And reason two there wasn't any home version of the movie until 1980.

@sunnydayay Yes the bird was edited out and a munchkin was put in as a hoax! That video is edited, I can prove it without a doubt watch 'proof that the hanging munchkin video is fake'

Why would one of the lollipop guild boys be on set and back up that the hanging is fake when that David Mikkelson guy said that the munckins weren't even in town yet. But the lollipop guild boy said he was there...probably with some other munchkins...the one who hung himself was probably a friend so he didn't want to spread the real truth of his friends death...its only natural I guess

@MrNateRivers What he meant by "I was there" was that he was there during the filming of the movie had there been a death on set about a hanging munchkin cast mate rumors would have been flowing like water.
