This is very meaningful to me right now. I have supernatural peace in the midst of pain. I called on all of the resources of heaven to minister to me :) Jesus alone can meet our needs. He is so good!!!! I love my Saviour.
Those of us who have been through tragedy and had nothing to hang on to but God, Himself, and found Him faithful to always be there revealing His love and His mercy understand this.
But when that tragedy comes, we can trust that God will always be there. He uses our times of sorrow in this life to reveal Himself to us; his love for us, His mercies, and His faithfulness. His purpose for us is not a life free of pain and suffering. His purpose for us is to know Him, become more like Him, and to glorify Him. That can be a hard concept for many to understand. But it is what we were made for. It is what sustains us. It is life to us! Continued...
Life is full of suffering... God is not there to dispel the suffering. May all the Christians out there know that suffering is not seen by God the same way it is seen by man. Jesus suffered tremendous pain and loss on the cross of Calvary,. Yet out of his suffering came forgiveness, redemption, hope and glory. We can now have a relationship with the God of the universe, and we have an ever present help in our time of need. That doesn't mean we won't meet with tragedy. Continued ...
What it says: Horatio Spafford was a 43 yr old lawyer. He lived in a north side suburb of Chicago with his wife, Anna & his 5 children. In 1871 his only son died. A few months later, the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 consumed Spafford's real estate investments. He lost his entire life savings. 2 yrs later, Spafford & his family decided to take a vacation to Europe. However, he was delayed by last minute business. He sent his wife & 4 daughters on the S.S. When the survivors of the shipwreck landed in Europe, Anna Spafford cabled her husband, "Saved alone. What shall I do?" Spafford immediately left Chicago to bring his wife home. In the midst of his sorrow, while sailing near the place of his daughters' death, he wrote the words to the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul"....
@furpurr ...In spite of their tragedy, in 1881 the Spaffords moved to Jerusalem to meet the needs of the people. Through their service the Spaffords were able to share Christ with the local Muslim & Jewish communities.
Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. This is a beautiful song..telling the faith of a beautiful man.It Is Well With My Soul.
@tallliza: Hi, I think you meant to type "no evidence for a soul". If so, I'd like to know how you conceive the human being.
I mean, we may compare our brain with a computer as far as analysis and understanding are concerned, but then how do you understand the creation of thoughts, emotions, or will ?
The Bible says that's what the soul is : a non-physical body tightly linked with the physical one, which interact endlessly.
I've never heard of another answer, psychological nor biological.
@ThefrenchFranz-- then how do you understand the creation of thoughts, emotions, or will ?
-- Do I understand you correctly, that animals have no thoughts, emotions or will ? But I presume you don`t accept that animals have a soul do you ?
The Bible says that's what the soul is : a non-physical body tightly linked with the physical one, which interact endlessly.----- Where does the bible say this ??????
@tallliza: It requires a long answer and it's late here ;-). To make short:
Plants have body-life, animals have bodylife and souls, Mankind has them both plus the spirit, which is the link to the spiritual dimension. It is generally admitted that the soul consists of three main domains: emotions (direct link to the body), intelligence (ability for abstraction, aso), and the will. St Paul generally describes it as "the flesh": see for example the 1st letter to the Thessalonians, chap5, v.23.
@Kingkalty : Hi ! I'd be grateful if you told me a bit more about the Bible turning you to an atheist...
I have read it several times, I keep being amazed by verses I thought I knew, but in which I discover a new hidden level... always like new... so often answering inner thoughts and confusion... please , will you share what has inspired you to lay it down ?
In the meanwhile I'll bless you in his holy name (I hope you don't mind :-))

Dear Friends, When we are feeling low and depressed there is no better
way to cheer ourselves up, than to count our many blessings. After all; Know therefore that the Lord your
God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His
Covenant of love to a thousand generations
of those who love Him and keep His commands.
( Deuteronomy 7:9 ) Therefore; He will love you
and bless you. ( Deuteronomy 7:13 )

@furpurr Then after composing the music for Spafford's hymn, Phillip Bliss who composed the music, died in a tragic train accident....
By the way, how could the Spaffords afford a vacation in Europe after losing their life savings in the Chicago Fire? just curious...
