  • Fantastic work !

  • I have to say i didnt find anything latin in the script and the letters that are in "latin" such as "C" for the "Σ" is the greek chalhidee alphabet that was in use in Magna Greccia and make its appearance again in Byzantine. In Byzantine manuscripts you will find again the "C" taking place of "Σ" ...

  • continue previus translation...

ΔΙΑΤΙΘΕΑΣΙΝ ΑΛΛΑ (THEY WERE READY BUT)

..... ΠΕΡΙΤΟΥ ......(...... IT WAS IN VAIN .....)

those are what i could read....

  • I translate what is visible(right column) in the scroll... ΕΤΥΧΕ ΚΑΤΑΣΤΡΑΦΗΣΟΙ ΠΛΟΙΣΤΟΙΑΣ(HAPPENS TO DESTROY MANY) ΤΩΝ ΓΓΕΑΙΤΕΥΣΑΙ ΝΩΙ(OF THE NEARBY INHABITANS) ΨΙΓΟ ΤΩΝ ΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ.(FROM THE CITIZENS.) ΕΝΤΡΑΦΟΝΤΕΣ ΩΣ ΠΕΡΒΟΕΣ(THOSE WHO SPEND THERE ALL THEIR LIFE) ΚΑΤΕΚΟΜΗΣΑΝ ΕΙ ΜΗ ΚΑΙ([TRY]BRING THEM DOWN EVEN) ΧΕΙΡΟΠΟΙΙΤΟ ΕΜΕΝΟΥ(BY FORCE THEY INSIST) ΔΙΕΧΟ ΑΝ ΑΠΟΚΤΕΙΝΟΥΣΙ(TO REMAIN NO MATTER IF THEY DIE) ΜΟΝΟΝ ΤΟΥΣ ΔΕ ΔΙΑ(JUST ONLY THEM) .... ΕΣΧΑΤΟΥ. ΟΙΑΥΤΑ(.... TO THE END. THAT IS WHY)

  • yeaaaaa!BYU:)

  • i just stumbled on to this and it's very interesting. what i find quite disturbing though is that there is nothing to be found about what is actually written on the scrolls. not even verbatim copies of fragments. here we have a dude from nasa (?) saying they can read it like yesterday's newspaper, but they don't publish what's on them. there's people enough around the world who can read ancient greek and/or latin... i mean, even if it's just about so and so sold his house, widower remarries etc

  • @ts1710 I completely agree. what's written on these should be viewable to the public but because many archaeological are privately funded, they're under the jurisdiction of whoever paid for them to be found.

  • @ts1710 They're probably waiting until they have enough to publish, or know enough about them, before they announce what they have found. Happens all the time in scientific fields. They also don't want anyone stealing the credit for their hard work, which is almost guranteed to happen if they just hand out the information willy-nilly before publishing it in scientific journals. That is one of the first places I would look for brand new information. :)

  • i have a feeling that one of the european governments have found scrolls containing evidence for Atlantis but fearing that this kind of knowledge will cause a disruption to their plan for a New World Order, have decided to burn it or destroy it completely, making the secret now completely lost... but dats just my speculation

  • wow, this is fascinating!

  • well tigertankman, if you can read grek, you should know that modern greek is different to ancient greek, so that's why you can't read it.

  • im greek well my dad is im half but i can read greek bur idk what the scrolls say

  • im still in 6th grade jackass

  • why are you here then

    your not old enough

if you cant be an adult

    then delete your account

    jackass

  • How old are you?, you talk too much especially to a young kid, i know he shouldnt have an account but talking like that will only get your ass kicked by other people, choose your words before you use them.

  • speak english

  • Talk about "silver lining". The volcano's eruption sadly killed all these people, but it preserved these scrolls to help us learn more about the past :)

    BAY SPLOSIONSS!!

(just type baysplosions above you'll quickly see what i mean xD)

  • @BonScottAC Ok Tom Cruise

  • WOW! =)

  • Uhhh..... no. Human beings are constantly evolving to environmental and external changes. People today are different than people who lived 500 years ago. While I don't agree with Hazyrob, I also have to point out that, no, it does not take "millions" of years for a slight evolutionary change to occur in animals.

  • This is the first time I ever heard of Herculaneum?

  • I think that aliens are what we evolve into, and they came back in time to study us, to learn about they're past.

  • that will be so cool

  • LoLz now this is interesting hahaha

    could be possible :P

  • hahaha nice...thats a good point

  • ew, byu

  • but why in greek!

was that like the language intelligent/important people wrote?

same as it was French in 18th century?

  • The greeks and egyptians recorded events/stories on walls and stone... whereas the others pretty much didn't. So yes, i would say that they were well educated. the greeks were masters in many things. in the ancient times they had the first philosopher, scientist, historian... amazing. They also had excellent agriculture, art, battle strategies, events(marathons, races etc)... they even had aquaducts and drains! Up until around the 18th century the french/english didn't even have drainage.

  • yeess... but that's not the answer to my question.

My question was wth would a Roman philosopher write in Greek in stead of Latin, because Latin was the dominant language at that time.

    So why write Greek

  • They were probably bi-lingual. I believe Greek and Latin were both just as important in the ancient times. It was probably more efficient too because you should remember that back then Greek was not yet formed, it was still many different territories with the same language.

  • Because of the Church at the time. If they didn't agree with what was said or written, they would routinely execute anyone in disagreement. Several documents were only supposed to be written in certain languages, such as Latin. Most of the populace didn't read, write or speak latin except for hiearchy, bishops and other "intelligent individuals" Things were written in Greek so almost everyone could read them, and things were written in Latin so only certain groups or individuals could read

  • I think you could be wrong, what with this being 250 years before Rome was Christian...

  • @MARSBOR33 Very simple answer... Southern Italy was inhabited by Greeks also...Ever heard of Magna Grecia?...Not to mention that before the Romans came in touch with Greeks and Etruscans they were culturally inferior...The only thing they knew was being shepherds and soldiers.Horace wrote=>''Graecia capta ferum victorem cepit,et artes intulit agresti Latio''=>"Greece, defeated, conquered its wild conqueror, and civilised the peasant Latins".

  • Actually, the Sumerians had many of the "firsts" that get attributed to the Greeks and Egyptians. First writting, schools, hospitals, agriculture, lawyers, courts, bi-partisan government, etc.

  • True, but mose people don't know what Sumaria was The 1st written history or "writings" would be chinese in origin, hyeroglyphs or pictolyphs aren't really considered writing.

  • I'm not sure I agree. Cuniform, the Sumerian style of writting, wasn't hyroglyphs or pictolyphs. The Sumerians had a written history that included their bible, in which a very similar story to Nohas ark resides. You are right though, not many people know the history of the Sumerians. I didn't untill I looked into it for myself. Of all the things we are "taught" in school, I wonder why the very first civilization we know about is so glossed over? Why so much focus on Greek and Latin? Anyway....

  • I would have to agree with you. My college professor and I had the same discussion years ago,and according to science, the 1st written history is attributed to the chinese. The Romans and Greeks were the largest rulers of the known world for the longest length of time, until Rome was sacced by the Visigoths. The Romans also invented the "julian" calender which is what today's calender is based from. Not to mention Herculaneum was Roman that's why theirs so much focus on greek and Latin.I think

  • china been here longer then greeks

  • sweeet

  • lol, why, you just told everyone that you would delete or spam their comments

  • i think u took it the wrong way ...

well, u know how hard it is to understand ancients manuscripts ... lol

  • it isn't hard to read ancient manuscripts thanks to the rosetta stone and a man who stayed up on a mountain the deciphering symbols on it...

  • they translated it and all it was was instructions on how to construct an ancient toilet seat

  • i know whats written in the scrolls ..

"it says please subscribe to NatGeo youtube channel "

  • hmmm, that may be right. it may have multiple meanings. i wonder what other important words for humanity are on this scroll? lol

  • its

" BE WARNED, ONCE YOU SAID - GO TO MY CHANNEL, WATCH MY COUNTER STRIKE VIDEOS AND SUBSCRIBE ! :) - YOUR COMMENTS WILL BE MARKED AS SPAM OR WORST, REMOVED BY AUTHOR ! "

  • i wish it had more information in it but god, i love that time in history..

this video is like about how a whole city got covered by the lava of the volcano and...^^

    but great video 5/5

  • five!

  • i Love these videos!

  • The scrolls contain warnings about the future that we never got to read, things like: "Maybe we should move away from this giant volcano."

  • hahaha

  • i wanted to hear more about the bodies frozen in an instance by the sudden flow of lava and ash over the cities below....

  • they actually did a full story on it long ago it was quite interesting

  • That's pompeii. Unfortunately Herculaneum only had bones since they were instantly incinerated because they were hit by a pyroclastic surge.

  • friggin awesome!

  • Wow! amazing find. I want to know more about these scrolls. Just to see nearly 2000 year old writing, on paper, is incredible.
