Today I finally got a replacement set of IRFP252 mosfets installed; I remembered that I have these baby moon hubcaps left over from VDG work, so I ditched the toroid and the "capacity pot" as Rosemary called it, and fitted the hubcaps as the topload.
By theory, two things should happen: 1) resonant freq goes down; and 2) more voltage should build in the disruptive discharge mode, so longer sparks.
And so it does. It's beautiful and scary.
I pushed 1.5 kW today; the electrodes melt instantly.
thanks, I hope you enjoy some of my other videos. Many are rather pedantic; you can safely skip many of the Ainslie (electric OU) and Mylow madness. My personal favorites are the alt.snakeoil reports.
Thanks! There are certainly many that make longer HV sparks, but this one seems to have the best power transfer capability that I have seen in a small tabletop unit.
It's running at 820 kHz give or take, depending on the toroid and the breakout lead and the ground terminal lengths.
I think when it makes full steady corona there's probably a lot of power radiated in RF. This week I plan to take it to the lab and check its radiated power, if I can dig out the right instruments from the mess.

That's probably the best built SSTC I have ever seen! Great work.
What frequency?
1KW draw in corona (OU?)?
