Dude this is very much so hardcore. There is nothing wrong with acoustic. It's still hardcore. Defeater is Melodic Hardcore, and definitely one of the best bands in this genre. Me and all my friends jam pretty much nothing but hardcore, such as Have Heart, Terror, TUI, and bands like that. And this is all one of our favorite bands. Just cause it doesn't have stomps doesn't make it hardcore.
