I love them....I don't know, they have that peaceful, far away sound that you just wanna drive down a long road to. It sort of makes you feel infinite. Anyway, thanks for this.
After hearing something like this, I don't know how anyone can listen to anything on Helplessness Blues without vomitting.
It just feels so natural, like they aren't under any pressure, it's just flowing through them, they aren't wringing it out of themselves. The vocal and instrumental diversity, it feels so...feral I guess, like they sewed a seed and this album just grew from the ground. The new one just feels like some other band trying to immitate the style they heard off the first album
@IvonoftheGWF Pardon my rudeness, but you shut your whore mouth. Fleet foxes do as they please and we have no choice but to kneel and worship them for the folk gods they are.
@IvonoftheGWF It's true. Helplessness Blues just doesn't come anywhere near this stuff. I like it, but it's a rough attempt. I wish I knew what went wrong.
@Gunnerkelly I need you to read this very carefully:
I used to think the same as you: that the new album wasn't "as good" as the first one. I have a recomendation: download it top quality (320), get a gooood pair of headphones and go to the nearest park (or woods) and give it a full listen.
I don't know what it is, but this album has magic in it, belive me.
Peckhold needed 3 years to make this. It is a complex, engaging pice of music. But it is GOLD.
@Gunnerkelly Helplessness Blues is equally as good.... (if not better in my mind)...... It has better cleaner production..... the guitars are so much more powerful in helplessness blues.... and the lyrics and vocals are just as powerful...... I thought that the debut album Fleet Foxes with Sun Giant was the best folk rock albums I've heard..... then Helplessness Blues came out... It is the closest thing to flawless I've heard in modern music.
You know what I love? This video has no "shit talking" or mentioning of other artists... I enjoy this greatly... I can finally sit back and enjoy great music :)
The beginning reminds me of my Grandpa, he listens to gospel and bluegrass all the time and I used to fucking loathe it, but... it ain't so bad now, ya dig?
Man all I think about when I hear this song is walking through the woods and fields near where I live on a sunny winter morning; clear sky, crisp cold air, leaves on the ground, sunlight shining through the trees...always makes me feel happy :)
@KeepinBuzzy Very true man, but you you can't forget about Neil young! Robin himself said listening to young & Dylan changed him. good recommendations
@KatTheGinger You should check out this tune by The Boxer Rebellion, called 'Caught by the Light.' Let me know what you think about that one in comparison to this song!
the guitar and the vocals at 2:43 till the end are so amazing!

I find that folk and country at times parallels African American music. Just an observation.

wouldnt say this deserves to be the highest rated album of 08, but it's still better than most of the stuff that came out that year.
