First it's not "flat"; the footwork is going into the floor instead of up in the air, which is one of the technique aspects that makes this East Coast Swing. Jive is more in the air than East Coast Swing, has more powerful kicks, and the dance as a whole is ten times faster than this.

It's technically quite skilled - musically (like most East Coast Swing) its completely flat.

There's just nothing there. . . . . .. its got no swing.

just to clarify all... this is East Cost swing. They need to be more into the ground but this guy does amazing for what he's got. He is actually a better lead than many of my past partners. And by the way this is choreograph. He might change it around a bit but she know exactly what to do and when to do it. I just love their energy!

I love how everyone complaining about whether it's East Coast Swing, or Jive, or West Coast Swing, or something else. First, this guy just danced this with one hand! I thought you'd need two hands to dance, but I guess not. Second it's East Coast Swing. The Jive is faster, more upbeat, and has higher kicks. The West Coast Swing is slower, more relaxed, and has NO kicks.

Actually this is swing... The more advanced you get though it has some steps that look like jive... I'm a beginner dancer and even I could see this was definitely ECS

actually, the more advanced levels of east coast swing look more like jive than it used to. it's become much more competitive over the last decade. :-)

Eh. Jive. East Coast Swing. Both are ballroom interpretations of a decidedly "un-ballroom" dance. Even "the" Arthur Murray freely admitted later in life that they made ECS to sell "swing-looking choreography" to people.

Until Ballroomers realize music is more than a metronome and feel the joy that is a well connected swing-out/whip... well, it really isn't swing.

It's mainly East Coast Swing, which is sometimes called Triple Jive(rock step, triple step, triple step). They do have a couple measures of West Coast Swing in there though too.
