  • some sweet info here

  • really informative and interesting

  • some sweet info here

  • This is a great video

  • you have some great stuff here

  • love the video man

  • some really good stuff here

  • i feel i became smarter the last 120 minutes i youtubed this guy than the i did the last 20 years

  • The professor as an accent. Dutch origin?

  • @manudelmarche Yeah, he's Dutch

  • why do they have to have hair like that ...

  • i didnt get accepted to mit this year but i will keep trying

  • o.O OMG relativity. So you can find distance using only the spectrum? WTF my brain FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • LMAO I FREAKING LOVE THIS GUY

  • There IS NO CENTER of the universe. That is like saying you are at the center of the surface of the earth.

  • The Dutch accent of this teacher is really bad and very obvious for any Dutchie listening to this. Still, he does a good job explaining.

  • This was the clearest class I have ever listened to! No wonder, MIT, huh...

    Teachers here should take notice.

  • This professor is dutch isn't he, I can hear.

  • good stuff

  • That was a really good lecture, I understood only some of it, but what I understood was mind-blowing

  • a rule on youtube say: 10 MINUTES MAX

  • That was an excellent lecture.

  • SMART IS THE NEW SEXY :D !!!

  • Where is the blowing machine???

  • huge chalk

  • Good lecture.

  • He teaches well but looks like a geek....

  • What's your point?

  • Sorry...But he looks wierd....

  • I don't understand how that affects you? No-one is asking you to kiss him.

  • Geez....U r funny and arrogant....I apologise....Very Sorry....

  • Thanks, I appreciate your concession.

  • @ 43:43 Lewin writes down the equation 0.5mv² = mMG/R. I am assuming the right side of the equation should represent the gravitational force; but if this is true, shouldn't R be squared to make the equation: 0.5mv² = mMG/R² ? Or am I overlooking some detail I didn't see?

  • @Gigano1986 no, he said that the mechanical energy should be zero, so Em=0 --> Ec = -Up, where Up is the gravitational potencial energy, and that's what he wrote.

  • Dear texxxicano, it's not only M31 with a blueshift already observed. I show somewhere that NGC 4216 in Virgo also shows a strong blueshift. Perhaps because our local Galaxy Group is moving to the constellation of Virgo.

  • Haha, imagine a guy saying to the police:

"I did not see the red traffic light because of the Doppler Effect, the light emmited came to me as green because the frequency was lower.."

  • @lorent123 that would really make my day if I was sitting in the same car

  • @lorent123 then you would get a ticket for speeding

  • @ahmednadeem91 Haha, touche!

  • @lorent123 If he was a physicist he would write you an "error" ticket as well. Green is a higher frequency than red, not lower. Watch the lecture again!! LOL

  • @amoskowitz0103 My bad :P

  • @lorent123 that would be a good joke, except that green light has a *higher* frequency than red light.

  • @throwabrick "that would be a good joke, except that green light has a *higher*"

And if the policeman knew any physics (doubtful), he could issue him a ticket for exceeding the speed limit by at least 8% of the speed of light, or about 53 million miles per hour. And *that's* no joke.

  • @lorent123 Actually it should be "the frequency was higher"!

  • Ha, he was my Physic Pro for Spring 2009..

  • exept andromeda wich shows blue shift, and is on it's way toward the milky way !!!

  • hahaa you suckers paid for this and Im getting it for free!!

  • Lol, except they have degrees from MIT, which can get you a job pretty much anywhere.

  • ah ah! True.

  • If your in germany then you can get degrees from the best universities for free ;). This happens to the best students so far and it happened to me;)

    sincerely

  • nice hair, dude

  • All extremely intelligent people have amazing hair.

    It's a requirement.

  • usually great schools have great teachers, meaning that they teach in such a way that explaination and understanding is a lot less complicated.

  • True facts.

  • @Jiraya12345 Hahaha nice

  • My brain just exploded inside my head

  • wow i actually find all this MIT lessons quite easy...thanks to IB HL Physics...woot

  • so when people die and go to "hell" their universe collapses and they turn into billions of degrees of heat?

i agree with the 4D Concept such as u cannot see gravity and cannot see or thoughts have an equation so its being controlled in some way that is not in the "Scientific Universe" where everything is dealt with astronomical mathimatics such as how computer software physics and dynamics operate

u know when its better to be happy than wise is said.. well this is i think the Best Example

  • Great Post. I favorite this:)

  • That was really interesting. I regret I haven't taken Grade 12 Physics.

  • He makes a mistake on the board at 7:15 doesn't he? He didn't substitute F=C/Wavelength for F and F'.

  • He skipped a few steps. each equation would have a c that would divide out. All that matters is frequency and wavelength are inversely proportional.

  • Yummy! I became interested in astronomy in 1967, and I'd like to see more!

  • information overload!! i only wanted to know bout the big bang...im a freaking gcse student!!

lol couldnt resist to listen the whole thing~

  • This is great, I always wanted to go to MIT. I would like to ask this guy what he thinks of the plasma cosmos model.

  • I'm studing those things on a university in mexico and i'm studing english for myself in my house.

I don't understand some words that he say, but he explain better than my university and I'm learn most on this videos than my class.

*Sorry for my english, i'm learning yet.

  • Coolio...Universe and end of universe

  • Wow amazing about the light years...
