i should also mention that there aren't even a LOT of guys that run 10 low and under today.. it takes a national record on the high school level, a D1 all-american or better to go that fast..
Tyson is smart enough to learn all he can about the Jamaican way of training, by training with one of their best. This means he's also studying their diet, sleep habits, lifestyle--EVERYTHING, in order to get a small edge on his competitors.
NOTE that it NEVER shows Tyson himself doing his workout, because he doesn't want any competitors to publicly know the exact secrets he's using at this time of the season.
I'm 5'9 s133 pounds super skinny, I stopped weight lifting during cross country and I can belt out 12 seconds unofficial easily during our track work outs. Its just that sprinters are mainly born that way with their fast twitch muscles
i always get disappointed trying to find out how these real athletes train. in weight lifting there are sets and reps and pretty much everything is clear and systematical. sprinters just seem to jump around adn be super fast :S
@asevorovesa it may look like they are just jumping around but perfecting drills such as a-skip and b-skip is what makes sprinters faster, weight training just strenghthens their muscles so they wont get injuries it doesnt make them faster.
@asevorovesa hey mate you're right its really tough finding out how real athletes train. with the crap on the internet seems like every program is just based on body building and building bulky heavy bodies instead of lean athletic bodies. what sets and reps should be lifted for athletes??
Yea you might not do werid gym workouts but 10:50 & 21:52 isn't usain bolt nor tyson gay speed so stop acting like you the shit and don't need to do these workouts you slow Bitch, I run a 10:40 and a 21:13 and I do all types of werid workouts. So step you Pussy up before you start talking shit!

my coaches keep telling me that doing squats is the worst thing i would do for a sprinter...my coach says that because he talked to maurice greene and johnson...and he says that internet lies.
Nope. If you don't squat, it's virtually impossible to run much even under 11 seconds without pulling a muscle (unless your body is perfectly proportioned, which is really rare).
There's a reason why any good sprinter does squats and dead lifts a couple times a week year round. It's more for injury prevention than actually getting faster, but without getting stronger, you're setting yourself up for failure.
@smsprints3 I agree, years after retiring for sprinting I feel that I still have the speed but I understand now what all the weight lifting were about. to make the body resist the stress of the sprint. When you are in top shape you take it for granted...
you're very lucky then and have a lot of natural talent. i didn't say no one can do that, i said it's really rare. trust me, i've been beaten by my fair share of sprinters that have never touched a weight in their life.
or you could be making that up.. since everyone on youtube runs a 10.7 or 10.8 in 3rd grade apparently
@smsprints3 well I have a little natural talent but I also train for track I just never squat haha I don't lift wieghts on my legs at all, it's all plyometrics, and isometrics haha.
@smsprints3 I'm not making anything up. I have a full sports scholarship to college and in 2012 catch a ticket to London and come see me run for the US. :)
who knows, maybe i'll see you at the trials in a couple years haha. good to dream right? if i ever make it there it'll be in the 400.. and with a lot of work and luck
@smsprints3 Your statement is pretty accurate overall, but certainly not always. KIM COLLINS of St. Kitts & Nevis claims to have NEVER done a squat in his life, and first he broke 11 seconds at age 14.
More importantly, although he's never remained in the top 10 long, this man has made the World Rankings list for 15 STRAIGHT YEARS. Other than King Carl, who else has had a career that lasts that long, without major injury??? Could this be because he DIDN'T do squats?
@smsprints3 where do you come up with this stuff?!. sprinters ran sub 11 before weight training, WELL before squatting..and some have ran it under 11s before ever training. Right up until the mid 1960s, resistance training was thought to have been a hindrance to speed...lots of guys ran low 10s by that time and never squatted a day in their lives.
where do you come up with this stuff? and if you couldn't figure it out, i'm speaking in generalities. notice the adjective i used before "impossible" ... you must have missed that. there are exceptions to the rule (i.e., kim collins)
@smsprints3 lol don't make sweeping statements dude. U don't NEED to squat to sprint fast, it just helps make u faster. Kim Collins doesn't touch weights... does he sprint under 11 seconds?;)
Plus there are lifts far better than squats in terms of functional development, deadlifts for example, or barbell hip thrusts...
@decaDBZ I did not make a sweeping statement. I know there are exceptions, and I said virtually impossible. I also never said that you need to squat to sprint fast. In fact, that's not what I was saying at all
