Besides, unemployment was falling by the end of her term as pm. Basically, someone had to make the hard decisions that might not have been popular.

@EddieHitler7 Those coal mines, steel works and shipyards were losing money all the time. The people were going to have to move on from those heavy industries anyway. Those old industrial towns have since become very prosperous and successful, with new industries booming and lots of investment. Just look at South Wales! The Unions were causing all sorts of unnecessary trouble. Thatcher put a stop to all of that and made people appreciate capitalism, bringing growth and wealth to the economy.

That's exactly what the labour government before thatcher tried to do and it simply didn't work because it just makes everyone worse-off financially. Think of it this way: if everyone is richer, regardless of the gap, then the government has more tax revenue to spend on public services for the poor.

When Blair took over after Major in 1997, Britain's economy was the most powerful one in Europe, foreign investment - which Thatcher had brought there - had made the economy flourish. And in 2010, after 13 years of Labour rule, you're once again in deep shit. I see a pattern here...

This is the most evident economic truth of all such truths - there is a tradeoff between unemployment and inflation. Later on, the employment rate rose drastically. Also, she handled the Falklands crisis excellently.
