  • I really like the filming in this, It makes it really interesting even if it covers a lot of the same things as other lolita documentaries.

  • can you give me a link where i can download the movie, it's for my mother.

  • These girls are fabulous ! i want to be just like them .

  • OMG <3 Alice and Cassandra!

  • 1:38 ... the reaction of that man... wow. She's cute and wearing what she wants. She isn't exposing her chest, behind, or anything inappropriate; which this society walks by and doesn't mind at all. I don't get it. Lolitas have a bravery and confidence that is, or at least should be, envied. Power to us all in being who we are!

  • CHICAGO!

  • Wow this is one of the best international documentation I ever seen! You girls made a very good job! :) And I can't belive that you made this project by your own. Wonderful! Very professional! ^^

  • really good documentary!

  • i love lolita and people need to stop being rube to lolitas

  • I love brand, especially Baby, but I really admire lolita who can make their own clothes. I don't know why anyone would make fun of that, besides, where on earth do they think brand started in the first place? It didn't just suddenly explode out of nothingness into brilliant colors and fame.

  • I think it's sad and really annoying that people think girl's that dress in Lolita fashion have something to do with that stupid book its just unfair, people are disgusting and don't relies that Lolita is a beautiful fashion and I would rather wear this then the trash girl's wear these days.

  • @ImNotNormal247 Tell me about it. A few months ago I went to eat with friends at Jack in the box in Hollywood. I was the only one dressed in lolita and an older man was touching his penis and looking at me. :(

  • @PrincessYeimiNohemi That's disturbing 8\ if it were me I would of gotten the biggest nastiest guy I know to kick his ass outta there! that's just not right aye, well keep strong and wear those lolita dresses like there's no tomorrow even if sick ass freaks stare at you!

  • @ImNotNormal247 Yeah I was freaked out at first. I was even going to stop wearing Lolita but I didn't and I'm glad. I still go out in public dressed in Lolita. Most of the time I get positive compliments but once in a while some people do say negative things to me but I don't let it get to me. :)

  • @ImNotNormal247 The book is actually quite brilliant. I've had people ask me if the terms meant the same thing, but I don't find it offensive since the question is actually really honest. People just don't know any better. Lolita fashion isn't a mainstream culture in the West, so, you really have to expect people not to understand it. I think it's best not to become angry at those who do mix up the terms. Just explain it to them honestly and hopefully they'll understand what it really is.

  • @kklollypop Yeah true :)

  • Hello, er, um at 1:42... she (you???) look like someone I know... would she (you???) happen to live in Ohio? ...

  • @YuFangirlButNotABad1 oh... all of you live in chicago? ... she looked like someone i know though!!!

  • Heh~ I love Lolita! The dress of that girl (with the wellies, that part) looks a little like the one Minto from Tokyo Mew Mew wears:3

  • Those girls are so cute

  • I'm about to do the same thing as the girl in the beginning. I just got my first lolita outfit and I'm taking it when I visit my sister in Chicago.

  • @LittleMissSweetieKat So long as the straps cover your bra straps and don't slip and slide it's fine. ^^ If the straps are so thin the bra straps show, then it's a no-no. o.o That's about the only thing that you have to look out for. ^^ Oh and that the arm hole isn't too big that part of your bra shows, like with wife-beater shirts. ^^

  • Great to see its spreading over the world!... We don't have any brand lolita shops in the UK though, darn. We need a Moi Meme Moitie in Stafford.

Great stuff making your own clothes! That must be awesome.

  • @TheTelegothika I'm not from uk but i know for definite there is a gothic lolita shop in camden called sai sai's :-) in case your interested:-)

  • @TheTelegothika well unfortunatly england is rubbish so nothing good eer happens to us :'( i wish there were some lolita brand shops too

  • Great to see its spreading over the world!... We don't have any brand lolita shops in the UK though, darn. We need a Moi Meme Moitie in Stafford.

  • @LittleMissSweetieKat i hate it as well....if you wanna wear a JSK without a shirt underneath then go for it! i mean goodness lol :P

  • Great Lolita video, I hope i can make one similar for my area of US.

  • Nice move, very well done! =)

Those rules are sometimes quite hard for people starting with Lolita... I'm from Germany and I guess this is one of the countries with the stricted rules... I myself don't care about them, but the consequence is that most of the other Lolitas accept me. But I don't wear it to be friends with everyone. I just wear it because I like it, and if that fits with the rules by accident it's fine, and if it doesn't. who cares? Everybody should wear what he/she likes to!

  • the rules were made in the US....i have a lolita friend in Japan and she say's they don't follow strict rules at all! but there are some things that you need in order to call your outfit lolita tho ^_^

  • i like this video, it's very educatonal and not so snobby about the subject and rules. i've seen other video's where some of the girls were just so darn snobby and rude about it all.

  • Rorita crows LOL. Happy belated Lolita day!

  • the rules are very very simple and everyone knows them o.o

Knee length skirts, or a bit longer, half knee cap maybe.

    knee length socks

    mary janes or some such

cutsew blouses, peter pan collars are loved, JSK's ALWAYS use these, unless you're ero-loli

bellshaped skirt, not round nor semi round, but BELLSHAPED.

    PETTICOAT, GIRLS, USE YOUR PETTIS!!

Bloomers are optional, but nobody wants their panties to be seen do they?

The rst depends on what style you want, but those are the basics

  • @akissy you don't always have to use a blouse under a jsk.If you see kamikaze girls then you will know

  • @japemoxxsmekyxx I removed my comments because I have learned a lot ever since I posted, and I agree with you: so long as the bra straps are covered and no part of the bra is showing through the arm holes a jsk can be used without a blouse underneath it. ^^

  • @akissy ^_^ thank you to let me know.In the summer that is kinda more welcome i think wearing no blouse

  • @japemoxxsmekyxx If you're shy about your arms as myself ( I have pudgy arms u.u) you could always wear a simple cutsew underneath for a more casul look.^^

  • @akissy while pettis are mandatory they don't have to be bellshaped, clasic do not use them bellshaped, gothic not always.

  • Comment removed

  • @akissy Happy Winter Lolita Day to you too ^.^

  • @Romanticideitzcoatl the petti has to be the shape of the skirt. If the skirt is A-line they are alined, if the skirt is flared the petticoat is flared, etc. As long as the petti matches the shape of the skirt, tis all good. ^^

  • Awesome Video. It's cool :)

  • @eguobyte i just reread my old comment and just wanted to say that it wasnt meant to sound that rude! xD

I'm a lolita myself so THANKS FOR THIS VID!! :)

  • Really good docu and I will be making my friends see it to make them understand more, haha. I see that many peple comment about no background music, but I like it that way. I think it has it's moments of humour without the music and I get to pay more attention to the other elements in the video. Great job girls!

  • Oh man I love lolita! :D I haven't really built up my wardrobe yet beyond a few basic items like the knee-socks, bloomers, a white blouse and a couple of off-brand and Bodyline skirts, but I absolutely adore classic and hime styles, so I'll probably be trying to incoorporate those images into my wardrobe as I build it up. As for this documentary, everybody looks lovely! And as for that part regarding online bullying, I know it is an issue in the lolita community, so I'm glad that's there. :)

  • not trying to yell at anyone but i wanna state my opinion. um, i dont think just because i can afford brand lolita doesnt mean im rude. also i dont think lolita is just a fashion style. i think its a way of life personally. please dont take this the wrong way but i dont want people to think we are stuck up.

  • wow, this video is amazing.... like wow. great job!!

  • i really like this video, because right now im in a process of dressing like a lolita, and im sewing my own clothes at that. I really like the girl especially who makes her clothes, because it gives me insperation to keep on making my clothes. thank u!! Danka schoone und muchas gracias!!! :3

  • she is so pretty :3

  • I think that girls voice is very cute. It fits lolita :)

  • Oh and Alice ;D I see that Totoro plushie~ <3

  • The fact that those people who know they're lolita. and are here on youtube and other websites, make fun of people. Piss me off. Honestly, they call themselves devoted fans. But they are so busy being devoted that they cant see the people their hurting in the process. They're so busy trying to be lolita, trying to be THEIR lolita. That they are blind. And Alice is right. They're arent really rules to being lolita. WE made them up. We started this. And hopefully one day, we can end the hurt.

  • @Animeluv32 Yea same here. I just hope that soon it will be more accepted later in the future than it is now. lol I'm 20 yrs old and my mom thinks im crazy for wanting to make my own clothing of the lolita style. lol

  • @tobeaflower If you love something, If something feels good. Then you should go with it, If it makes you smile. Or if its something that you think you wanna do because you love it then do it. Dont let anybody stop you. Because sure they might think your crazy now. But later, they'll will think you were strong. Theres nothing wrong with dressing the way you want or doing what your heart wants.

  • @Animeluv32 thank you i needed to hear that from someone who is awesome. :) muchas gracias, danka schoone!

  • @tobeaflower  Bah! ^^;; Im not Awesome or anything. I just hate it when stuff like this happens. But thank you! For listening to a 13 year old girl. Not many people do that these days xD;

  • I hate it when people stare and talk about other people just because they wear something different,

here in the U.S. it happens a lot,

but I admire this girls for keeping on it and doing what makes them feel happy,

    you all look pretty n.n

  • @DaniiCullen

    It happens everywhere, it's normal.

  • I really like Lolita fashion, I think its so elegant and beautiful unfortunately most of my family dont get it (exept my dad he doesnt care) but I wish they would. I know for a fact I wont stay a Lolita forever because my style is always changing but like the Aristocrat (sorry but i dont know her name) said even if I move on Lolita elements will always stay with me

  • Thankyou!=3 im so happy that there are other people like me in this world !!!

  • This is a really good video that help explain the basics of lolita and is a good video for people that have no idea what lolita is or have pre-conceived notions of what lolita is that are wrong. I would have liked it more if they could have gone more into depth about the styles of lolita other than the ones that were listed but I understand that this was meant to be a short documentary and that there are limitations on youtube. Otherwise I thought the lolitas were adorable and did great =)

  • I know one Lolita in particular, a rich elitist who wears Moi-Même-Moitié almost exclusively. She claims Lolita is simply a fashion, no attitude, know being polite and anyone who thinks so is stupid. The only thing worse than her attitude is the fact that she's one of the prettiest EGL's I've ever seen. So there a few rude people out there. But we can't let a few dirty drops spoil the ocean, hmm?

  • ya lolita fashion has nothing to do with sex at all it's a fashion that started in japan thats inspired bye little girls clothing from the victorian and rococo periods

  • I love the "So Arice are your rorita crothes krean?"

  • Brilliant video. Well done and well explained.

  • wow i love this- their clothes are so pretty I wish I could afford dresses like that! :D I should totally buy one

    Nice documentary!!

  • Very very wonderful documentary.

    I wish it was longer!

I want to know why people think it's sexual?

I think it's probably the name of the fashion not so much the clothing. But anyways, you girls are very pretty and have gorgeous dresses!

  • @kittyfoxx Because people think of things like the book or movie Lolita when they hear Lolita. So they think of cute young girls hitting on 40-50 some year old men.

It's just the whole "I do not know this, it is different, I am scared".

What we do not know, scares us.

  • Awsome documentary, you all have such pretty dresses^^ You actually don't have to get your lolita clothes drycleaned. You could wash them in your washing machine(I do). But you have to have it on very low temprature, wash the dresses with many deatials inside out or remove the extra details^^

  • @Moahoa95 I wash mine at home too, but I don't put them in the machine because it messes up the bow and ruffles as well as ruining the silks and stiffness of built in petticoats on some dresses~ it's good for the cheaper and knock off clothes, but I usually handwash in the bath tub and hang dry :)

  • @nyccora I actually usually onlny wash my bodyline and some ap clothes in washing machine. Strangely enough, Ap's clothes are sometimes washable in washing machine. I do advise to wash them as little as possible tough since their prints will fade a bit if you wash them to much. I always handwash/dryclean my bssb clothes tough. I wrote that message long ago when I only had bodyline^^; Thank you for correcting me, I had totally forgotten about that comment.

  • @Moahoa95 ohhh!!! okok that makes sense lol I have a bodyline that absolutely must be washed in the machine because it wrinkles insanely~ ^^

  • 0:45 she reminds me of my frind annie so much XD so nice......and seems a little nieve... and happy :D

  • serious question- is this a fashion- or a subculture. I've walked across different types of girls. Ex: Girls who wear the cloths and act like they would day to day and these other girls who now act proper and drink tea, own a pile of volks dolfies. Clarify? Somebody, thanks :)

  • @Kawaiineko997 it's more a subculture and if you were lolita you often gonna act proper but stil yourself.I don't think that the lolita's in japan do theaparty's and stuff.they just sit whole day at harajuku or go shopping.Lolita's in others country's they really do meetings and do theaparty's.I think it is just because they see the style really from where it's from (the victorianperiod).I dress lolita to.

  • @japemoxxsmekyxx Actually, lolitas in Japan often have tea parties with the designers.

  • @thalionrin yeah but i mean the comment lolita's who aren't in touch with desingers ^^''

  • There are "lifestyle lolitas", girls who practice "lolita manners and activities", who are probably more common in Japan where the fashion is more popular. I think the majority western lolis only dress up on occasion, when doing a photoshoot, meetup, or just when they feel like it. The dresses are so expensive that it's hard to afford dressing out daily, and the "lolita mannerisms" is a personal preference.

  • @Kawaiineko997 Either or.. There's "lifestyle lolitas" that have a very Victorian frame of mind/proper lady, and others that just be themselves, and again, others that already had this lady-like philosophy and have joined lolita. But I think when you are a part of the fashion you are in the subculture - the online communities, the lexicon (JSK, petticoats, brand names), etc etc..

  • great documentary!

  • Oh my gooness!! I absolutely love the dress at 3:36!

^^ Very nice job with this documentary! X3

  • i like it.. youre awesome!!!!

  • A very nice documentary, and the lolitas you chose to explain it were so sweet and accepting! Just wish you had covered more of the styles, though, I noticed punk and boystyle in particular. :(

  • Really well explained. <3 Thank you

  • This is sooooo cuuute ; 3;

  • 2:16 Cassandra FTMFW!

  • Do my eyes deceive me or is that Baby's Tartan check ribbon scallop jumper skirt at 2:05? (fangirl squeal) looks cute...

  • Actually, as in any sort of culture, lolita has some incredibly rude people. it's sad, but it's true.

though, from my own personal perspective, i've almost exclusively met particularly polite lolitas.

  • I think with most styles of Japanese fashion and street fashion there's this constant thing where people are like 'that's not so and so fashion' I see it all the time on online Japanese fashion communities, and even non Japanese fashion communities. Which really sucks because it takes away the enjoyment that wearing the clothes is meant to give you. If you're always worying about whether an outfit is correct or not it takes away the fun.

This was a great video, really proffesional.

  • So basically what I was trying to say is I agree with the points of view expressed in this video. I ran out of room though. Darn Youtube comment limits.

  • omg sooooo true <3

  • Sadly. no, not yet. But I plan to in the future. I'm a member of Chigothloli group on LiveJournal so I see those meet-up dates.

  • very well done

    go go lolita chan!

  • Very good. Good shooting, good information, good length (to the casual person looking for a good lolita-explanation... For me i wish it would go on forever). You could have named more styles (it's not mentioned that boys can be lolita too), and i consider the girl shown when talking about classic lolita more of a gothic girl (the style of dress is quite classic, but for someone who doesn't know anything about lolita the colors might be confusing). Otherwise: very good job! ^.^

  • I think this video was very well done~! Gahh.. I cant' wait to start building my own Lolita wardrobe.

  • Lolita is the best stile to wear. Seriously, it make one feel beautiful and like a princess.

I have some dresses for myself, but alas, i cant create my own dresses, skirts or shirts, since i don't know how to sew.

  • Wow, guys, this is very well done. Good work!

  • Oh My Goodness! You have no idea how much happiness this video gave me! :3 I'm so happy to see people appreciating Lolita and really seeing the goodness about it. I'm 15 years old, and I love being a Lolita, and I too am a native Chicagoan! OMG! I have so much more pride now. <3

  • Have you ever been to a Chicago Lolita Meet up?

  • great video! thanks for this :)

  • well done i love it

  • i love lolita. i like how the sweet lolita said if it's not lolita just don't call it that so you won't have any problems.

  • cute.

  • such a nice vid!

    really good job girls! <3

i wish i would have so many dresses

    X3

  • I love lolita. So nice to se thed video.

  • This is a great video. Couldn't have shown ;olita better. if only it was longer. lol

  • so nice to see :D

i wish it was a little longer as well :S

but it was really great :D

  • beautifully made, i love how it was documented with lolitas and ordinary people. the explanations for the general different types of lolita was really great! i love the sweet lolita's voice, she sounds lovely :]

  • Majestic.

  • Brilliant! Well done, girls! You explain the whole concept of Lolita Fashion beautifuly!

  • Finally somebody done it. :)

  • I wish this was longer, it's so interesting.

It's nice to see people discussing lolita maturely for what it is.

  • yay! i saw this on egl. well done and i love the sweet closet! <3

  • Very well done!

  • this is amazing! it's nice to have somebody explain lolita who really knows their shit :]

  • Nice video. ^^

A lot of beautiful lolitas. :)

  • very well executed :) I'm glad to see someone handle this subject matter with seriousness and in a way that others will understand easily

  • I love this video! I totally wish I had the sweet lolita's closet... :D

  • Nice video :)

I feel so bad for the girl at 4:05, what kind of horrible monster do you have to be to do that to someone...

So glad it turned out good for her in the end though :)

  • it pretty much happens to almost all new Lolitas

  • That's weird. Since everyone started out like a "wannabe", even the ones who are now "full lolis". I hear a lot about lolis (verbally) bitchslapping other lolis, but i've never noticed that on the lolita forum were i go... :S

  • What Lolita forums do you go on?

  • lolitafashion,org,.. Everyone is very nice to eachother... Posting pictures of others and saying how bad they look is forbidden and if anyone posts other stupid comments (completely unrelated to the topic, unfriendly or spam) he/she gets get his/her ass kicked by the moderators XD

  • This is really good. I really like this video. :3

The only thing I really really wanna say is that I think the event in which one girl's photo was taken and mocked online is illegal. It's illegal to take someone's photo without their permission and even more so to invade their privacy by posting it online publicly. It just made me so mad.

  • @SynestheticSoul And yet... look at loli_secret.

  • @IceQueen975 Yeah I know.

  • Great video!

  • Thanks SO Much for all the positive praise, everyone! I'm just going to echo Christine and Elena in saying THANK YOU!

I also have a question: I think that the editing with the pink boots after "more mature" is kind if great, because it reveals that even classic Lolita is fun and cute, and not totally prim and proper. Would you all say this mis-represents the style, or does it work? Your voices are what drive this entire production! Yours,

    Jasmine

  • Beautiful, accurate, I give you much praise for this masterpiece. I hope you make more documentaries in the future.

It was a lot of fun having a sneak peak into a fully furnished lolita wardrobe too!

  • You girls are great! Awesome video!

  • I think you all did a really great job on this! It was fun working with you. ♥

  • This was really good

  • to hear the voice of people I just know from egl... this is cool XD

  • Classic Lolita: "...they want to look more mature...." Pink Boots?! haha.

The only thing that annoys me is Sweet Lolita's voice and the fact that there is no backround music at all.

But I liked the rest a lot.

  • @BlutmondGott Must there be background music?

  • This is a great video! I think it's a great way to educate people on the subject!

Also, the pony collection at 3:15 *drool*

  • Metamorphose parasol. ♥ This is really well done. A lovely insight into the world of the Lolita.

  • "lolita clothes are well taken care of. you have to get them dry cleaned have them hung in the closet"

  • Very well done. It goes straight into my favourites. <3

  • This was wonderful! I linked my parents to it. Good stuff.

  • I really hope youtube features this *-*

  • this is fantastically done. not just in content but in the editing as well. Also as someone who is starting to move on from lolita (it's been 4 years now an i'm going otome an natural kei)it's nice to hear from someone who has also moved on to an extent an hear what they have to say. really well done (also imo that classic i'm guessing VM dress, looks amazing on you)

  • It makes me so happy that people are making positive, accurate, and informative documentaries like this one. Lolita needs more videos like this.

  • Absolutely Amazing! This is a perfect way to introduce to people not in the know about what Lolita fashion is all about. I hope you make a longer version of this.

  • Thank you for all of your kind comments! It is the best reward of all to know that a cohort of lolitas feels justly represented by our work. - Christine

  • This is so well done! I liked how you showed different types of lolita, that the girls aren't living in some sort of fantasy world. They act like normal girls. I REALLY liked the one comment about how you can dress however you want, just don't call it lolita when it obviously isn't. That is one of my biggest frustrations.

  • Impressive! This is the kind of documentary we all need :]

  • This was excellent--really captures the heart of the fashion movement!

  • Comment removed

  • Job well done!

  • Bravo! I really felt the imtimacy; this is truly how lolitas live. We are just people who dress differently because the style appeals to us. I very much enjoyed this documentary, thank you for taking the time to make it. ^__^

  • amazing ^^I would love to see the entire documentary :P

  • Thanks!

This is, actually, the entire documentary. We had a time limit of eight minutes. If we'd had more time, we would have addressed a whole lot of other issues, though.

  • maybe there could be sequel parts in the future, addressing these other issues.
