Was raised in church all my life and taught right from wrong. Lost my way as a teen with too much drinking, sex and cocaine. Nearly killed myself on coke one night and that's when I went to God and asked him to let me live through the night. Told him I didn't want to be an addict anymore. God let me live through that night.

Went to church next morning and this is the first hymn we sang. Read the words with an open heart and finally understood what Christ did for me. Been free of drugs since.

I do not feel being raised in the Catholic Church is playing a 'religious game.' The Catholic Church absolutely 'preaches' the Gospel of Jesus Christ, though the Holy Spirit. It all has to do with the 'expression' one chooses to Praise and Glorify God. One's Foundation in the Catholic Church is not meant to be an 'end all.' It does offer the freedom to Love God and express that Love however your heart is lead.

I 1st heard of Gaither videos in 1995. It reminded me of the baptist church I attended as a young man. It was small but we sung many of the old hymns that Gaither artists sing. I wish I could turn the clock back many years & relive it again !

Independent fundamental Baptist churches that preach the Gospel from the King James Bible still sing all the old Gospel songs, at least here in the Southeast. Give me an old fashioned Bible-believing Bible-preaching country church anytime. People today want to play 'religion.' They don't want to hear the message from the Gospel of Jesus Christ that they must be washed in the Blood, repent their sins, and trust in our Savior Jesus Christ. The Joel Osteen crowd is headed straight to hell.

i agree some of the churches around here are turning to that "singing on the wall" haha

I mean some of the praise choruses are ok, but don't stop Hymns all together and yep the KJV is the TRUE bible doesn't matter if you can't understand what you read as long as you read it God will give you the wisdom

but i don't know i would say they are headed straight for hell, i would just say their manner of trying to reach out is worldly rather than spiritual. just my thoughts :)

This is my favorite hymn. I sing it at night when I am anxious or feel the presence of evil. Jesus has won the victory over sin and death. Praise God.

PS. The KJV is old english. The Bible was inspired by God in the original languages, Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. The KJV is an old english translation. Remember God loves the world, no matter what language you speak. Are you saying that other languages are inferior and won't get the inspired word of God in their own language?.

Oh I love this song! My best friend's father was a Baptist preacher in Illinois, and I was so spirtitually moved by this music and sermons, that I converted from Catholic to Baptist. I have never regreted it since!!! BTW... my family didn't like it at first, but they started to convert!!

I was raised in the Catholic church and went to Catholic school, which means I played the 'religion' game for years. The first time I walked into a small country independent fundamentalist Baptist church and heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ preached directly from the King James Bible my life was changed forever. I went forward at altar call and accepted Jesus into my life. I have NEVER regretted it. Jesus Christ changes lives!
